Most of the cut rate motels in Merced are in sketchier parts of town. The railroad tracks parallel 16th where this one is found. I was only awakened once during the night by a passing train, most go through during the day.
The manager (owner) did all he could to accommodate my requests. Though the bed was very firm and I thought it would be a problem, it was not. I slept fine. The rooms are small. It does seem that there are some who live in a few of the rooms. The parking lot is very tight, impossible to turn around if full.
Now, about the hotel.
Came here for the price. Expected it to be a piece of dump, but the outside was actually nicer than the other motels we've passed by. Fresher paint.
Then we entered our room. As expected, the carpet was dirty, the sheets had some stains -- but the bathroom was actually clean -- surprise.
The room was old, but the bathroom was maybe a bit newer renovated. I gave it 3 stars because of the bathroom and the clean outdoors.
Would I sleep here again?
If I have business here in merced, then yes. Otherwise, I would just get a closer hotel to yosemite. The gas and energy you waste driving from merced would make the more expensive hotel near yosemite cheaper.
Plastic wrap still on mattres. That was a noisey night with the movement with the plastic. A/C works but heater does not prepare to freeze. It's winter and it's cold.

"Like I said, If this is a yosemite trip (which probably is), Then the gas and energy you waste driving from merced would make the more expensive hotels near yosemite, cheaper."Read full review
