Detailed Reviews
I really liked this motel.. the room was large enough, fridge & microwave. shower was hot. The room was very clean as were towels. The bed was very comfy. Theres a open garage next to the room, this as the benefit of parking and sound reduction as there is no room directly next to yours so it was quite. (this is a massive problem in America where sound proofing is virtually none existent). The staff were very nice and we enjoyed our stay and would stay again. They really need to take off that they provide breakfast, they don't. I understand due to Covid but then just edit the website, it doesn't bother me but I heard other guest getting annoyed about it. There is great Indian restaurant next door, it doesn't look much but the food was great. We stayed here because its a 10-15 min walk to Universal, we went on a Wednesday and got there as it opened.... no queue and we went on every ride at least twice. Its also a 10 min walk to the metro station, this is limited but it does go to Hollywood, so you could stay here and take public transport to other tourist areas. Theres supermarkets close by so you can take some "snacks" to Universal as the food is terrible and expensive. At the price you couldn't ask for better

Wonderful little hotel not far from universal studios. We stayed at the Garden property instead of the hotel property, and it was spacious and comfortable. Highly recommend it for those who won a very nice stay in a perfect location add an affordable price

Quick and straightforward check in after a long day of travelling.
Room was modern and clean. We were in 211, on the corner. Did face out to the street which was noisy but we are used to street noise so didn't bother us.
Breakfast was decent - cereal, scrambled eggs, bagels, toast and fruit to choose from. Filled us up for a good while.
We chose this hotel based on closeness to Universal Studios, just ~20min walk. Also close to the metro, which was handy for us getting into the city.
Would definitely stay here again.

Came to LA for a fun couples trip to Universal Horror nights with my husband. We had the after 2pm entrance tickets but stopped at the hotel first to check in. We were told the room wouldn’t be ready until 2:30 so we asked if we could pick up the room key whenever we arrived back at the hotel and were told that was fine. We made sure the staff knew it would be pretty late. We asked about parking and were told each room had an attached garage parking spot and we could just park there when we got back. Upon returning to the hotel we got our key but the employee told us we could not park in our assigned spot and instead directed us to park next to the lobby and was directing my husband who was driving how far he wanted us to pull forward. He caused us to hit a concrete step chipping the corner and causing damage to our car. He said we would need to discuss this matter in the morning with the manager. Then after all that we open the door to our room and find two small beds even though we had specifically booked a deluxe king room since it was just my husband and I. It was late and we were very tired so we stayed the night in the double room. In the morning we spoke with the manager, Robert who was rude and unconcerned with either the issue of the damage to our car caused by his employee or that we weren’t given the room type that we paid for! He kept trying to change the subject and talk about things that were totally irrelevant like closing the gate to the hotel at night for security. He did absolutely nothing on either matter leaving us with a damaged car and didn’t get the nicer room we had paid for! Would not recommend staying here to anyone

This hotel is really more like a motel that has had some cosmetic touches done to it but is still a small, run-down place not accurately represented on websites. The location is walkable to Universal studios but that is the best reason to stay here. The room itself was ok but lots of things were missed when they were attempting to fix up the place. The biggest complaint is that the wifi was spotty and I continued to get messages that said no internet was available. The free breakfast is ok but the area where it is served is quite small with limited seating. Get there early or you will have to battle for a seat.

I booked 3 nights at El Royale and found it great. The manager and staff were really accomodating, helping out with travel requirements and local tips/ideas of things to do and places to eat. Room was as described and provided all amenities in comfort (with AC that worked well, especially given the 100F heat). All rooms also have parking right out front (forgot it was a motel, otherwise would have rented a car) - Overall great find and would recommend!

Wonderful man running this hotel. I believe his name to be Mr. Sherman.
My husband and I had some family things come up before traveling that kept us from being able to arrive at a decent hour. I let the hotel know that we wouldn’t be able to arrive until around 2:00am. I was informed that the office closed at 10:00pm so they wouldn’t be able to accommodate. Knowing it was a small hotel I understood. I was offered to have any fees associated waived & not be charged anything. I understood and began looking for other hotels in the are. It seemed that they were all full for the evening. I messaged bookings.com where I made the reservation & they let me know they would reach out to the hotel and then offer me a comparable room at a different hotel. Mr. Sherman called me letting me know I wouldn’t be charged but he was still trying to figure out the process with booking.com. After much back and forth between Mr. Sherman, bookings.com, and myself, Mr Sherman called me to let me know that he would go ahead and wait up for us & allow my husband and I to check in at 2:00am. This meant so much to us as we were already having a difficult day and finding a room last minute while we were attempting to get on the road was very stressful given the lack of availability in the area. Mr. Sherman understood this and really went above and beyond for us as guests. He even called me at 1:30am to see where I was at in the road. He extended our check out by an hour as well since we arrived so late.
This is personal guest service you wouldn’t get at a larger hotel.

Pros: Renovated. Close to Universal. Comfortable bed.
Cons: Located in a blighted area on opposite side of freeway from Universal. If you are on foot, you will encounter human feces, garbage on sidewalk from homeless rummaging through trashcans, ranting and raving mentally ill. Website photos misleading. Only one cheap bedside lamp in our room, not two ornate ones shown online. NO PLACE TO HANG CLOTHES. Not even a hook anywhere nor a luggage rack, so you'll just have to leave it on the floor. You're expected to drape your clothes over the mini-fridge or chairs as we experienced. Overhead LED can lights extremely bright and unable to be dimmed in bedroom; it's either on or off. Listed price per room does not include additional $9.50 per person PER DAY "destination fee" you're gonna pay at checkout. Obnoxious upcharge for which no tangible benefit was evident. Oh, the fee's listed in the fine print so be sure you're ok with this. Better value and experience at The Tangerine Motel in nearby Burbank. Wish I'd booked there first.

Brilliant customer service
After arriving from the UK on 11th April 22 and finding ourselves homeless due to our original booking having duped us, me and my family found ourselves in a foreign country with no where to stay.
We then began ringing around several hotels however all of which could not accomodate us at short notice.
My wife then rang and spoke with Robert from El Royale Hotel and explained the situation to him. Robert then went above and beyond and said although he could not accomodate us until 13th April he would try and ring partner hotels to see if they could find us accomodation until then.
Which he was able to do so.
We then arrived at El Royale for the remainder of our holiday which was from 13th to 21st April and stayed in room 107 of the Royale Gardens.
We had our own designated parking spot. The room itself was modern and spacious and had its own mini fridge and microwave
The bathroom was clean and modern. The TV had hundreds of channels.
The staff including the cleaner and grounds keeper (sorry I didnt get either of your names) were great with our children. As was Xavier who was friendly and helpful.
I would gladly return to this hotel in the future and strongly recommend it to anyone with a family

El Royale was a nice budget friendly hotel. It was convenient and clean. It was straight to the point hotel. They had coffee and muffins in the morning. Coffee was good and strong!
The location of the hotel was great, close proximity to the freeway. Its a great hotel for if your main purpose for a trip was Universal Studio. It is close by. Close enough to walk (about 12-15 mins) to the metro station & from there you get a shuttle ride (free) to city-walk/ universal studio. It will save you greatly on parking at Universal.
I like how theres little places around the hotel as well such as convenient stores like 711, drugstores, nail salon, marshalls, Michaels, Starbucks, and places to eat as well.
Im not sure how safe the area is at night as I didn’t walk it, but the hotel itself felt safe. Theres not a-lot of rooms, maybe 12? Its a cottage like, private enough as it is all separated by a carport. You can park in your designated carport:garage which is convenient and free of charge (as other hotels charge!). The room is basic but comfortable, like I said straight to the point!
It has its charm. Don’t expect it to be a motel 6 cus it is not and don’t expect it to he a Sheraton either.
I would come back her for sure if ever I visit studio city / los angeles again.
The hotel manager and Front Desk Xavier (i think thats his name) are nice and helpful.

There is a shuttle from I’m guessing the sister hotel as you have a five/ten minute walk to shuttle. We were there recently but just took an Uber at $4
Breakfast ist from 7-9
It’s great for universal but distant from the other attractions. Good bus and rail links 10min walk which we found ok. We didn’t use our hire car much whilst staying.
I would recommend after making your reservation, call the hotel to talk to the front desk. It is a small operation and a limited number of people who answer the phone and they should be able to confirm. That being said, with any online reservation, including airbnb, I try to call/ contact and confirm the days/times.
