I will probably stay here again because of the price and the cleanliness of the room.

The rooms are spartan, but clean. The air conditioning works.

My complaint was that I pulled in at 3:00 a.m. after a six hour drive. I was dead tired. The first words from the night clerk was that I'd have to wait until she finished her audit. Not the words I wanted to hear. I had not been warned of that either. I had booked in advance through Tripadvisor, given my credit card, and expected to have my room waiting. Not to hear some lame excuse.

She put me next to the road too. But, I don't know that the placement was spiteful.

The room was clean. None of the typical amenities like the shampoo. But there was a bar of soap and clean towels.

Ashley the morning clerk is a delight. Although I missed the continental breakfast, she got me some muffins and I had some coffee.

The stay was fine, other than the interaction with the night clerk, and out of fairness that could have been colored by the exhausted state that I was in.

Hotel was not clean. Had no shower curtain, shampoo, soap, etc... Told front desk staff about the shower curtain in the morning and they were surprised, but offered no compensation. They just said "that's too bad".

Grounds were dirty (broken glass and we even saw a razor blade)

We would not stay at this place again.

Response from UniversityInnFresno, Manager at University Inn
Responded Jul 5, 2013
Thank You for the review. I'm sorry the hotel was not to your satisfaction. All of our rooms have to have a shower curtain and "thats too bad" is not an appropriate response and I apologize on behalf of whoever might have said that. We work diligently everyday to make sure our hotel is properly maintained. I still appreciate you taking the time to write this review. Management

Stayed here one night, several prostitutes working out of the hotel, noisey all through the night, a group of thuggish looking individuals all partying out of one room in between going back and forth to the prostitutes rooms so I'm guessing they were a bunch of pimps or something. Then to top it off the weekend staff were extremely rude and unhelpful, told me if I had anything to complain about I could wait until the mgr came in Monday. STAY AWAY, this hotel is a slum hotel that belongs on skid row not next to the college.

I was a little hesitant about staying in a 1 star motel. But it was close to Cal State Fresno. It was very clean, the non smoking room didn’t smell like someone had smoked in it. The air conditioning unit was working well, no rattles and cooled the room down. Every morning someone was cleaning the pool area, parking lot and grounds. Only drawback was the continental breakfast. Along with coffee and juice, the first day only had bagels and discolored butter. Second day muffins were added, third day cream cheese, breakfast cereals and milk showed up. I guess free is free. Staff was friendly and helpful. Great place to eat is just next door called the dog house (Fresno Bull Dogs). It is very popular with the locals, you won’t go away hungry. Bar B Que is cooked in courtyard and prices are reasonable. Overall I would stay here again.

I could not believe the stay we had last night at this hotel Unbelivable!!!! At 1A.M. I was awaken by a loud knock on my door Wanting to follow the hotel rules I did not answer the door and called the front desk to "report suspicious behaivor" the front desk said there was nothing they could do and i should called the police I did and noticed that in the parking lot it appeared as if several drug deals were going on!! A man was riding around with what looked like stolen bicycles and a group of people possibly doing drugs by the trash bins. After 26 minutes the police finally showed up no arrest was made and to my dismay several drug tranasction occurred through out th e night about 7 vehicles full of people stopped and would enter a room at the hotel stay for a few minutes then leave. After multiple calls to the front desk, I was told "this always happens on the weekend" "nothing they could do" and "at 2 am you could move your family to a safer room on th w property" I had hoped to speak with a hotel supervisor in the morning. The girl at the front desk was new didn't know when a manager would be avaliable and guess what there was nothing she could do!! Truly the worst night of my life!!!

I stayed at this hotel for a women's group weekend in Fresno. At first the hotel seemed fine. The room was outdated, the bed was terribly hard, and only a bar of soap is provided for guests. Fine. The pool looked nice and clean (I did not use it). Whatever, it was $60 per night, I'm not complaining about this. My complaint is that there was blatant prostitution activity happening during my stay which management was less than concerned about. I felt unsafe and scared to leave my room.

Horrible horrible experience!!! My girlfriend and I spent two nights at University Inn, everything looked promising until we had a complaint. Upon arrival our room was not even ready when we booked in advanced. The clerk offered us a room with two beds, a little unsure at first but we agreed. My girlfriend ended up asking if we could be moved because it was quite loud in the area where we were. We ended up in a room with a single bed and was satisfied. The bed however did not seem to have a comforter, it looked liked it was just a fleece blanket. We didn't really think anything of it. The next morning we woke up with red marks all over our bodies, my girlfriend had them much worse than I. We immediately went to the front desk to inform them. The clerks response was that it could be an allergic reaction because she seen similar marks on her husband. We denied that imply and she said she would have the "maintenance man" take a look. The maintenance man came to our room and said that he could not find anything, and that our marks were not fresh markings and that he knew what fresh bite marks look like. Irate with his response we asked to speak to a manager. The clerk told us that there was not going to be a manager available until Monday. By this time no apology was given nor did they try to accommodate us in anyway. Our bedding was not changed nor did they offer us another room or help to find another location. The day we checked out (Saturday) we seen the maintenance man talking to another gentleman behind the desk so we asked if this was the manager. He claimed he was the current manager on duty. We told him what had happened and told him that we were very unhappy with our stay. He told us that we did not have proof that we received those marks while staying here.Constantly telling him the proof was on our bodies we assured him that it did indeed happen here because we have not been anywhere else. We even showed him our markings others we could not because they were in private places and my girl even had markings on her face. There were even marks on her breasts and buttocks. The manager strictly implied that we did not get those marks from our stay and that we had no proof and refused to accommodate us in anyway. He said the maintenance man did not find anything and that he would call pest control and that they would not find anything either. We asked if we could speak to the owner because their lack of professionalism was really unbelievable. Every last person we brought our complaint to discredited us immediately without hesitating and implied that they were not liable. By this time we still did not receive any type of apology from anybody nor did they attempt to alleviate the situation. No acknowledgement for our unhappiness whatsoever. We still had to pay full price and we are currently fighting for a refund. My girlfriend ended up seeing a doctor and was told that these were indeed flea bites. The hotel is pet friendly and only certain rooms allow pets. We did not feel valued or taken seriously here, and the fact that they lacked empathy or compassion to make things right for us is so unprofessional, extremely upsetting and disrespectful.

Thought it would be o.k. albeit a bit run down, being right across from the University and several parents had placed reviews to it being tolerable. By staying here you become a suspect related to the significant crime associated with this facility. 4 visits by the police in two days. Staff is indifferent to the narcotics trafficking, theft, prostitution, and credit card fraud taking place by guests. No shampoo or even pictures on the wall, but at least a couple of feminine hygene travel wipes were left on the nightstand... go East even a quarter mile for a better location. Have stayed all over the world and this place beat the cheapest hotels in Naples and Paris for Sketchyness.

I stayed at University Inn on the 22nd to the 24th of April. I've been going to this hotel for the better part of 5 years when I stay in Fresno. I had booked a few days in advance and requested for a remodeled room if they had one available and I was in luck. I was upgraded free of charge to a king bedroom with a mini fridge and micro wave, from a queen bedroom. The front desk attendant's name was Angel, he went above and beyond with my request. I always have great a stay at the University Inn and will not hesitate to come back next time I travel to Fresno.
