Detailed Reviews
In my continuing series on cheap motels, this business trip took me to Fresno. I always liked to think that Motel 6 was the premium cheap motel brand but boy was I wrong this time. Room smelled of mildew, bed was worn out, no shampoo, no coffee maker. I also didn't realize that it is near a train track, but that fact was hard to miss at 5:00am. All in all, I would have to say that in their effort to save money Motel 6 missed the little things that make cheap motels bearable. That's why I am moving down the road to another cheap motel next time.

We stayed at this Motel 6 during the second week of February, 2017 on a two-week trip which featured a total of four Motel 6 properties. This property was by far the least desirable. The front desk staff wasn't friendly at all. In fact, they just seemed unhappy and put out by just about everything. We requested a non-smoking room but it had definitely been smoked in despite its little "non-smoking" sticker on the front door. I'm allergic to cigarette smoke so I woke up with a headache and a stuffy nose after about 5 hours of sleep. The bathroom was very dirty, unlike the other Motel 6 locations we visited during our trip and the room was TINY!! Other parts of the room were pretty filthy as well. I used my sleeping bag to sleep on the bed rather than getting in the sheets.
The other guests were noisy and active all through the night. I heard a drug deal go down outside my door which didn't really bother me except to wake me up. I never felt like anyone was going to hurt me and threaten my safety. It was just annoying. Still, my dog was allowed to stay in the room with me...for free. I don't know of any other hotel chain that allows pets without charging a fee. Maybe another Fresno Motel 6 would have been nicer but this location was the closest to the area that we were visiting.
I suppose if I hadn't stayed at other, nicer Motel 6 locations in CA and Oregon, I might not have expected as much from this Fresno location but when compared to others, this Motel 6 was by far the worst in terms of safety, cleanliness and courteous staff.

I stayed in that motel because of its location location in the middle of town for a few days . The motel attracts nothing but prostitutes and pimps .The funny thing about this that the people at the office now
about it and the don't care .Th motel has no security gards at all, and always the police are called there for problems. So I advise not to stay there att all because not really save.

This hotel had no working TV or phone. It was not just the 2 rooms I had. There were people complaining in the office about the TV. The front desk said they were having technical trouble.I have stayed in a lot of Motel 6 hotels and this was one of the worse. Motel is known as a basic budget hotel but that does not mean it does not have phone or TV. I like Motel 6 because my pets stay free but some are well maintained and others are not. I'm beginning to look elsewhere to stay because they are all run by different owners or managers and some are really sleazy.

No idea where the good reviews come from either they are Fake or someone has revised wrong Motel 6
Awful experience rooms nothing like images on booking.com. Very dated stains on bedding, full of holes and cigarette burns . doors have all been broken and no fridge or microwave in rooms . Says something when the English family are put into rooms with 3 security cameras on all angles and doors ! We didn’t want to leave the rooms to go out for food without taking all our possessions .. and seriously considered leaving but was told as we had already had room for one hr no refund would be given 🤬
whole places clearly used as a brothel didn’t sleep a wink each time I looked out of window different cars coming and going all night long!
Stayed in some rough places before but honestly this was the total pits

To be clear, this is one of two Motel 6's on Blackstone in Fresno. This is the northern one, on the west side of the street just north of Ashlan Ave. near the Hwy. 41 exit, across from the Economy Inn and Carrows Restaurant. The other Motel 6 is a couple blocks south on the east side of the street. I've stayed at both of these, and reading the negative comments here, I wonder if some people got them confused, because the south location actually is pretty bad. The area isn't very nice and feels dodgy, and one of my first impressions when I stayed there once was seeing a big bouncer type guy, who looked a bit like Mr. T, come into the office and deducing from hearing him and the clerk talking that he was the night security guard. Eeek.
Anyway....the NORTH Blackstone location is quite decent. I sometimes stay there on my way home from Death Valley so I can make a visit to Fresno's Mormon temple, which is nearby. I've always found this Motel 6 clean, efficient, and safe and haven't felt insecure, although like any urban environment, everyone has to use some sense in walking around at night. IMO, the biggest threat in the area, especially at night, would be trying to walk across Blackstone without getting run over. The traffic all along Blackstone is truly alarming--and I live in San Francisco!
Motel 6's don't have restaurants, but there are several in the immediate area, and also a Von's supermarket a few steps away and a carwash a block north.
The rooms on the front facing the street do tend to be a bit noisy until the evening traffic thins out; Blackstone is a very busy thoroughfare. But at night, there isn't much traffic. Yes, the walls are thin--it's a Motel 6, not the Ritz. It has a laundry room, newspaper and soda machines, and a pool in the back away from the street. As I said, whadya want for $40 a night?
I'd recommend it to a friend who wasn't too demanding, who didn't expect a lot of frills or services, but wanted a decent, affordable place to sack out.

Everything about our stay at this Motel 6 was wonderful!
Staff were personable, polite & friendly.
Room was spotless and beautifully maintained.
Even close to busy streets, there was no "road noise" to keep us up.
We WILL stay here again, and recommend it to everyone!

The thing about Motel 6 is that you never know what you're gonna get. I've stayed in many Motel 6's in the past decade. Some were relatively new and actually quite delightful. And others are just downright disgusting. This location however ranks right down below with the Motel 6 on Dean Martin in Las Vegas.. absolutely revolting and horrifying. I didn't spend too much time in Fresno, but I hope to God there are actual nicer parts of the town. Because from what I had seen of Fresno it is a total dump and this motel was a reflection of it.
I booked 3 nights at this Motel 6 as it was central to both Sequioa and Yosemite National Parks. Proximity to the parks was pretty much all this motel had going for it. Apart from that there was nothing to like about it. The room smelled of cigarette smoke despite it being a nonsmoking room. The carpets were stained and the sheets were soiled. The walls were pretty thin and much noise came in from the street. There were cigarette burns along the edge of the bathroom sink. Til this day I still regret using the motel towels.
I even considered moving to a different hotel during the stay, but other nearby places were either full or prohibitively more expensive, and besides didn't look any better. So I decided to just stick it out like a champ. The good thing is that I was out before dawn and back in well after dusk every day. My advice.. don't walk, run away from this Motel 6. You definitely get what you pay for.

Bedspread had multiple stains on it. Sheets had black marks and other stains. We were afraid to sleep in the beds but had nowhere else to go. The air conditioner/heater was broken and filthy. The thin towels had stains and hairs on them. Another guest had a big dog that pooped on the balcony walkway and they just left it. This place should be avoided.
