Detailed Reviews
This hotel is located on Travis AFB, so you have to be an active military member/retired military traveler, or have an active military sponsor book a room. The rooms are large and well maintained. Internet is fast. Love the in-room coffee maker! Best of all, it's quiet. Occasionally a door slams shut, but that's about it. No elephants walking above you. I'm in the basic room, no kitchen. It has a small fridge and microwave. Housekeeping comes through every day to clean the room and bring fresh towels. Bed sheets are changed after 7 days. There's a walking/running track just outside the back exit. The hotel itself has a cafe that serves good food. Snacks can be bought around the clock for those that require their Doritos fix. The gas station is about two blocks away. Dining facility is just a block away, and they serve delicious food. This could easily be a 3-star motel. Jelly Belly Candy Factory is about 10 minutes from the Main Gate--can't wait to try the Barf flavor jelly beans. You can take the ferry from Vallejo to San Francisco and avoid the traffic entirely. There's much to do in San Francisco and Sacramento, and every place in between. I highly recommend this Inn for all military travelers. You won't be disappointed. There is a sign in the lobby that all room prices are being raised $10 on October 1, so the price of a basic room will now be $60 and a TLF will be $70. Still a very good deal. You can't do better anywhere else.

Rooms are big and spacious, complete with small microwave and refrigerator. Hotel was nice and clean, also comes with laundry services, just need to purchase your own detergent. Staff was extremely helpful and extended our check out (if they are not busy, they can do this for you). Located about an hour outside of San Francisco, 45 minutes to Sacramento. There is also a Jelly Belly Factory about 10 minutes away that also gives free tours.

Based upon our stays at lots of 5 star hotels we were to expect a hit or miss value on hotel amenities. This Air Force Inn is all about a great night sleep, friendly smiles and helpful staff and all excellent amenities you'd expect from top rated hotels.
Stay here it's a good choice.

Hands down this facility has some serious issues. They have thieves among their staff and management condones this behavior. The front desk staff is great and approachable. Maria from housekeeping is wonderful. The heat is turned off at night to save energy, so you freeze at night. While everyone else on the base remains warm. Management is clueless but the staff keeps them afloat. I wouldn't recommend this inn to a dog. Hands down the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The price for a night stay is awesome. However you make it up in the lack of courtesy and respect for the guests.

We've stayed there every January for past six years - usually for 3 to 5 nights - en route to Hawaii. The Inn is clean and the staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. It is easy to forget that you are on a military base. Could be a Marriott or a Hilton!

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Westwind and we were pleasantly surprised! It definitely outshines other military lodges. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, the rooms are spacious and clean and the 24 hour coffee in the lobby is just perfect. There's a small cafe in the lobby that serves breakfast and lunch items as well. The proximity to San Francisco and Napa Valley can't be beat for the price we paid to stay here. We will be back in August for sure for another mini vacation and wouldn't stay anywhere else.

If you're authorized to stay at on-base military lodging and are looking for a great and economical place to stay on the fringes of the San Francisco Bay Area, this is your place.
About an hour away from the Bay Bridge and Sacramento, less to the East Bay and Napa Valley, Travis AFB is well-situated for visitors to these places -- not to mention the nearby amusement parks at Vallejo, and Fairfield's Budweiser brewery and Jelly Belly tours.
In addition to all the other facilities available for travelers, the Westwind Inn is simply a great place to stay. When its bright, clean, well-maintained and modern rooms are considered along with all the other facilities -- full service health club next door, swimming pool and bowling alley across the street, incredible museum steps away, not to mention THE PLANES -- it compares favorably with three-star hotels.
The rooms are either one double bed or two, each with a microwave and refrigerator and all the other amenities you'd expect in a two- or three-star hotel. As of my most recent visit -- Memorial Day weekend 2014 -- the third and fourth floors were being renovated, so expect improvements over already fine accommodations.
In addition to the great on-base facilities nearby, the hotel itself features a business center, a coffee/lunch shop, a 24-hour lobby market for snacks, food, beer, wine and liquor. It also has a comfortable and expansive lobby with nice seating, a widescreen TV and a fireplace. Monitors are available listing outgoing passenger missions for would-be Space-A travelers.

When waiting for a space available military flight this is the place to stay. The lobby has numerous chairs and sofa's. If you can not get a room you can stay in the lobby. The passenger terminal is located about 10 minutes walking distance. The rooms are nice. Some rooms have flat screen tv's others do not. The price is affordable. It was 56 dollars per night. Plenty of ways to enter the bldg ie., front, sides, etc. The maids do a good job cleaning the rooms. English can be a problem with some of them. Most of them are Filipino's. The hotel has some snacks, drinks and other amenities by the check-in counter. Everything is reasonably priced. Free coffee machine in the lobby. There is also a java cafe that also makes sandwiches. A little high priced. Across the street is the bowling center and a city bus-stop. Bus comes once an hour and it can also take you to the passenger terminal. A taxi service can also pick you up and take you to the terminal or off the base. There is an Amtrak station in Fairfield that can take you into Sacramento, San Fran or San Jose for a fraction of what a shuttle van or taxi charges. Check-out is 11:00 a.m. If they are not packed they can extend you until 12:00 p.m. The only flaw I had with the front desk was there lack of answering phones. If you call from the room they may or may not pick up the phone. It is best to go downstairs to get your question(s) answered. They have three computers in the business room. Security is somewhat iffy on some of them. One would not bring up any you tube videos. They also have a monitor of what flights are departing in the next 24-72 hours. Not sure how up-to-date that monitor is. Only one desk telephone in the main lobby. This is why I gave them three circles instead of four. There is a service station with a nice shopette right down the street from them. The BX and comimissary is about a 15 minute walk from the Inn. The dining facility is located behind the Inn. It takes about five minutes to get there. Food was good and decently priced. Always enjoy eating with the active- duty personnel. All in all it was a nice experience. If and when I go back to Travis AFB, I would not hesitate to stay here again.

I stayed here with my son during his transfer to Travis. The main hotel is separate from the apartment style rooms. Our accommodations had 2 bedrooms, 1 bath w/laundry, eat-in kitchen, and living room. Did I mention free Wi-Fi? The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need but food. Room cleaning is done upon request.
The "apartment rooms" are away from the main lodging in separate buildings, a bit different from your regular accommodations but served our needs very well during our stay in the base.
If staying at Travis for an extended period, this is definitely a good choice, it is even priced competitively. Highly recommended.

I'm at Travis a lot. When there, I prefer to stay on base as the Westwind Inn is a very nice facility and there isn't much outside the gate that seems more attractive. The Westwind is in excellent repair and cleanliness, always. The rooms by military standards are very nice. It seems to always have vacancy. I've stayed there space A on my way to Disneyland before as well. The gym is just across the street. There is a running track just behind the lodge. There is a shoppette that is not too much of a walk. The BX, Burger King, and the commissary are about a mile away which is a challenge for Air Force but Army and Marines should have no problem walking that far. Free laundry facilities with a detergent dispenser for $0.75.
