Detailed Reviews
Our stay here had an unfortunate beginning- 8 hours of bumpy un-airconditioned travel, only to find we didn’t have the room we had pre-paid.
What I will remember was the effort to recover: Ist one thing to make a mistake, but how they go about fixing it is the true measure of hospitality. Im pleased to say they did a great job – better than some 5 star Manila Hotels.
The rooms are new, small, clean and adequate. But you have to think “small town” – there is no Jolibee or MacDonalds in Oslob. And any Hotel with hot water is “luxury” here – So if you adjust your western expectations down a few steps you won’t be disappointed.
The level of care/ hospitality is genuine. Ist like staying with your favourite aunt and uncle. Hmm perhaps too much like? I thinks some of the family live there and more than once locals were cooking over an open fire on the grounds. Something you won’t see at Sofitel or Hilton’s lobby!
Would I stay again ? probably not- the Whale Shark experience is great but not a repeat for me. Would I send a friend there – for sure! – but I’d get my friend to book direct, reconfirm a few times and even get the staff to arrange pickup from the bus and to do day tours. That would make it a great excursion.
PS – at the Whale watching follow with pancakes at the fourth eatery from the left – the BEST pancakes every. And I compare that to a few five stars.

They have the nicest owner and the friendliest caretaker named Minong. They are very accommodating and are very helpful to local tourists and tourist from other countries as well. Minong is so helpful that he can do everything for you from giving you tips on where to eat, to cooking you a meal, to washing dishes, to entertaining you and to doing anything. They also can offer you a ride to whale-shark watching and tumalog falls for an affordable price.

Our experience with New Village was great from the start. I had messaged the hotel on Facebook on the previous night before we arrived saying that if there's any room, we could stay there. I didnt find any wifi after that so we went there anyway. Right away when we get off the bus in Oslob at 11pm, there was a man waiting for us and asked if my name is Anna. Then he escorted us to the hotel, which was nice, theres a really nice little garden in the yard. The rooms were ok, though I didnt really think our room was worth 1200 pesos/night. But the staff is very friendly and they will help you with anything they can!

Ok the reason why i booked here is cause it had 4 stars but i dont think the reviewers had took the tour package. However i booked the whaleshark, heritage city, and tumalog falls tour package which was was 4800 pesos for 2 people. We had a problem with our itinerary so we could only do the whaleshark tour. I adked them to make it cheaper since we only did the whale sharks and they charged us 4000 pesos!! They said the whale shark is 700 per person but its only 500 per person. They charged us 1000 pesos for our ride going there but it wasnt that far and it only took 15 mins. People said it usually just takes 400 to 500 for a car service to the whale sharks and they charged us 500 pesos for breakfast which is just 2 small peices of longanisa and egg and 3 in 1 coffee. Seriously? 500 for that? The staff were very friendly but i think the owner is very dishonest and what theyre doing is very wrong. I created an account here in tripadvisor to express my frustration and also so that people wouldnt have to go through what we went thru.

Response from Hanz V, Owner at Oslob New Village Lodge
Responded Jun 10, 2015
It is our utmost hope that our guests get the full satisfaction during their stay at Oslob New Village Lodge. It saddens us that you felt cheated during your stay. To justify our rate, let us give you a detailed breakdown of tour package rate: Room accomodation for 2 - 1,100 Whaleshark encounter - 1,400 (700 per person) Transportation - 1,000 Breakfast - 220 (110 per person) Tour guide - 500 TOTAL (Tumalog falls not included) - 4,220 The room accommodation is the actual rate. We added 200 per person for the whaleshark encounter because we do the processing when you reach the area. You don't have to go through the hassle of the registration. You don't have to fall in line and wait for the queue. The transportation that took you to the area is a private car with air condition. You cannot expect to get a price as with the motorbikes. In fact motorbikes charge 250 per person or even more sometimes. And when you get to the area, you can leave your things in the car. The car waits for you when you're done and takes you to the next destination. You are paying for the comfort and security here. About the breakfast, I don't know where did you get the information that our breakfast costs 500 pesos when in fact its only 110 per person. Lastly, the tour guide fee. We make sure that our guests get a great experience in Oslob that is why a tour guide is provided. Bacause of your itinerary problem, which was not our fault, you weren't able to visit Tumalog falls and the heritage park, and yet we still give you a discount and adjusted the rate to 4,000 from 4,220. I don't understand why you called us dishonest and gave us a very low rating. Should you want to take a cheap tour of Oslob, you should have taken the tour all by yourself. We would be glad to give you instructions on how to go about it free of charge.

no non-sense lodge and just the best staff. and oh, free wi-fi that did not disconnect even once! :)
This lodge was 3-3.5 hours away from cebu city airport by private drive. My friends and I stayed for 3 days 2 nights. We had the deluxe room with AC and private washroom. It was neat and clean. Basic but it worked for us. The lodge itself was very simple. You do get all the necessities you need for what you pay for. The rate was very affordable so if you don't expect anything fancy, you should be fine. We availed the tour package which included trips to Kawasan Falls, Moalboal Basdaku Beach, Whalesharks, Mainit Hot Springs, and the beautiful Sumilon Islands. A bad storm hit Oslob few days just before we arrived and we were told some of the major bridges/roads got destroyed and deemed unsafe. We missed one of the falls but Kuya Hanz, the owner, took the other hours-long road and still drove us to Kawasan even if the shortcut bridge was down. I think that was very kind and wonderful of him to do so we wont miss the wonder of Kawasan. The owner and other staff were very polite and attentive to our needs. Just genuine Cebuano hospitality, our Cebu trip wont be as fun if we didn't stay in this lodge. I do recommend this place! South Cebu was such a beautiful place!

Stayed here for an overnight with my whole family. We reserved 3 air conditioned room. The price is affordable, the place/rooms are nice and clean, Very accommodating and the place is close to the main street so its not hard to locate the area. Roughly 10-15mins. Away going to Tumalog falls and whale shark watching. The only downside is they don't offer breakfast/lunch/dinner so you have to go outside to eat. BUT you can bring your own stuffs for cooking and just cook your own food. I can really recommend this place.

We're so glad we decided to stay at New Village Lodge instead of Tanawan, our host Hanz couldn't be more helpful, and what a lovely guy.
His wonderful, gorgeous niece Corinne took us on a tour of the town and showed us all the highlights. Minning the effervescent and hilarious hotel assistant was always ever present to make sure we had everything we needed. He even came to hail the bus for us the next day.
Hanz arranged everything for us to get to the whalesharks early and a trip up to the falls on the way back. All too easy.
The rooms are spotlessly clean, tidy and basic with a lovely garden frontage off the street.
Stay in Oslob over Tanawan any day, it's only 10 minutes drive from the whale sharks and the township is 100% more beautiful than Tanawan surrounds. A lovely promenade park, some historic ruins to explore, beautiful gardens, quiet backstreets and a good market, shops and food stalls on the main road.
For those not accustomed to rural noises, there are a few roosters around which just ensures you're up early for the whaleshark adventure !! Or get down to the park for an early morning walk.
We really wanted to stay and chill out another day it's such a lovely spot.
We left Oslob feeling like we shared something authentic with our hosts, not just a 'we did the whalesharks' tick it off the list tour.

Me and my friend arrived around 10pm after a bus journey. We stayed in the dorm room. Clean linen was put on the beds as we arrived. The lady arranged for her husband to collect us at 6am to snorkel with the whale sharks about 20 minutes away. He was so lovely, he even lent us money so we could hire an underwater camera ( which is a must!)
He then took us to the most beautiful waterfall. Then took us to the boat so we could continue our journey to Bohol. All before 9am!
Only stayed one night, but a great place. Best nights sleep I've had in ages!

The staff here was super friendly and went out of their way to help. One person personally escorted me to the ATM and the coffee shop so I wouldn't get lost. They also arranged my tour to the whale sharks for a nominal fee. Unfortunately, the room was very damp and the property had a ton of mosquitos which left no place to just relax.
