This is the best pace to stay in Oslob if you want to see the whale sharks. Obviously these are just basic very small huts with no air conditioning, however they do have electricity and a fan, and you are guaranteed to be the first group out to see the whale sharks at 6am. Wifi worked great, there was a pool table, and staff were lovely. Only downside was that there was no running water in the evening so couldn’t shower/flush toilet etc.

Pros:
1. Right besides the whale shark entrance gate
2. Lady of the hostel has a very efficient system of managing entrance queue. She takes the entrance fee overnight, will get you registered and complete payment formalities. You have to wake up at 5 am in the morning. By 6am you will be in the boat (typically the first boat that goes out). Within 15 mins you will see the horde of tourists flocking around and the queue for registration and payment getting bigger and bigger
3. She also manages sumilon tour. Has a tie up with vangies boat rental. Charges us 800 pesos for 2 for sumilon drop and pickup. (We did not haggle so it could be lower)
4. Has a basic kitchenette, so you can do your own breakfast
5. Accommodated a late night check-in (1030 pm). However you need to call her before and inform about your arrival timings.

Cons:
1. Very basic room. Can be used only for night sleepover.
2. If you are a light sleeper then watch out for the roosters who start screaming from 2 am onwards!
3. No hot water

So I'll begin by saying that from our arrival at 2am to our departure around 1pm the following day, the staff and family that run Sharkys could not have been more helpful and friendly towards us. Arriving in the dead of night, they only had enough beds for us in the main dorm, which was fine, though it was effectively a barn with beds in it.

I actually slept fairly well though, until around 3.30am when a neighbour decided to start playing music at festival like volume for the remainder of the morning.

The bathroom left a lot to be desired, but a sink and a toilet was adequate for our length of stay.

The staff here organised our trip to the whale shark diving (which is practically on the doorstep).

I would say that since the best time for whale sharks is early morning, this is a decent choice of hostel, if only for that reason.

This hostel is the best placed if you want to see the whale sharks. The whole family are so lovely and helpful and woke us up to make sure we were the first boats out. They stayed with us the whole way and the hostel felt like a home away from home! Thank you so much for having us.

This is not my first time of staying in a dormitory hostel so I surely don't have a 5-star expectation. But this hostel is extremely dirty and messy! It tells a lot about the owners' characteristics;
- Toilets are un-flushable so you have to pour water in it with a bucket
- the tap water was opaque/milk white
- everytime you use the bathroom sink, water from the sewer run like a river that wet your feet as well as the garden
- tons of cockroaches everywhere and it's stink
- Wifi didn't work at all and the owner told us that's because of the whole area was like that (I know she only paid for the cheapest internet package).
- Perty staff who keep laughing in my face because according to them I overpaid for the whaleshark watching - in fact, I paid for a whole day tour with many activities.
- Staff again always try to do you favors but always confused you with different advises although you didn't ask for it, and they knew nothing about the situation - they just look for a chance to laugh at your face.

Facilities:
I recommend that you stay in Oslob just for a night, maybe maximum of 2. There is nothing to do much in this town than the whalesharks and water falls which you can do in one day. If you are not a backpacker, dont expect this place to be hotel like. NO its not! Its a simple structure and it seems like it is not yet finished. But Im just looking for a place to stay in that is cheap. But sometimes there is karaoke outside,so expect it, but closes at 10pm.

Management:
Very kind owners, they are very hands on and caring! Treat you as if you are a part of a family. Just ask them if you want to go somewhere, like if youre healing to Siquijor or Dumaguete, even Moalboal.

The place is so close to the whalesharks watching place, like 50 steps and you are there.haha there is a food nearby which is 40 pesos, Rice and a dish of your choice.
And super close to the main road, which can take you anywhere( to Cebu City which is 4hours away, to Moalboal 2hours, and port to Dumaguete or Bohol( 400 pesos to 800 pesos is the range for ferry, learn to bargain!)

Honest review of my experience at Sharkys. As other reviews have highlighted staying at Sharkys ensures you're on the first boats out for whale watching. This is great...although it seems to mean your time will be cut short. We were out on the boat for a total of 15 minutes. When we questioned this with both Sharkeys and the whale watching organisers no one seemed to care. I realise Sharkeys do not have anything to do with the the running of the watching but they took our money so should take more responsibility. We had also emailed them numerous times before arriving enquiring about the whale watching but had no replies.
The huts themselves are nice and clean, mosquito nets provided. Shared toilets and shower also good. The wifi didn't work eventhough advertised. I would probably still recommend Sharkys to people wanting to do the whale watching, but just keep an eye on the time.

This is the only hostel that made me felt home. Mommy zeny make sure that you are comfortable. This is the nearest Hostel you can get from the Hub where you start your whale watching adventure. Also affordable

I went to Oslob cebu to experience swimming with the whale shark. The sharky hostel was the most convient hostel when it comes to proximity to the whale shark dive facility. It was just a stone throw away. Practically at the door steps.

The hostel is new. I love the pressure of the water from the shower. The staff were kind and very helpful.

But guys if you have to go to Oslob make sure that you have enough cash money with you as ATM is very far from town. Around 16Km away or more.

Also the whale shark dive is not in the town proper of Oslob so if you are coming from Moalboal make sure you tell the bus driver to let you off at barangay Tanawan.

The beds and bathrooms are really basic, with many areas of the building still being constructed.

This is offset however by friendly staff and a convenient location.

I would still recommend, although some hostels just a short walk away may provide better comfort
