My husband and I had a wonderful stay here with our little dog. From check in with Karlene (I think she and I are kindred spirits) to walking the beach, visiting the bars and restaurants and exploring the area, it was a fun couple of days.

We loved the decor in the room and Scruffy is still playing with his complimentary toys. The bed was very comfortable. The only negative was the shower - it took awhile for the water to get hot but was excellent once it arrived. Just a little patience required.

If we ever decide to come back to the area, we will definitely stay there again.

Great spot to stay with a fur kid. They have a nice pet relief area with bags available. Steps to the beach. Just a block to restaurants and cookies! Very pet friendly including a water bowl and toys/treats at check in. Not serving breakfast due to COVID restrictions sadly…but that is to be expected. Cute spot and hope to stay again soon.

There are new owners as of august. Ryan, one of the owners seems nice and was helpful. The rooms are very small and don’t have tvs or microwaves. The previous owners use to include a dog bowl filled with toys. That was a nice touch. There isn’t a breakfast.

It is nice to be a block from the beach and the rooms seem to have cute decor and bright colored blue paint. If you pay a little extra, you’ll most likely have much better accommodations.

My wife and I were driving to Carmel to spend a few days with some friends. My wife is a stroke survivor, and cannot make the car trip in one day, so we decided to stop in Cayucos, as we have stayed there several times for longer stays and love the quaint village atmosphere and several good restaurants. The difficulty in a beach resort is finding a location that will take guests for only one night on a Saturday.
I inquired to several locations, and Cayucos Motel responded favorably. I called them early in the week of our arrival, and was advised by a pleasant lady that there were two rooms available: a king room and another with two beds - a double and a single. I told her of my issues with my wife's access issues and advised the two beds would not work at all, and we would pay the higher price for the king room. Because the reservation was inside 7 days from the arrival date, she advised me that we would need to use a credit card to make the full deposit, and that we would not get any refund if we cancelled. I replied this was OK - we were looking forward to visiting.
We arrived to check in at 4pm, and found the property to be a bit dated but also pretty much what we expected having viewed their webpage, which also had pictures of the rooms. We were met by a friendly lady at the very small office, and she pulled our reservation card and told me they were going to lower the price on our room as a seasonal discount, which was good with me! She scratched out the old rate on our card and wrote in the new rate. Then she also crossed of the old room number and changed that as well to room six. This was closest to the office, so I left my waiting wife in the car to open the room and drop my carry bag. To my surprise, I was greeted by the dreaded 2-bed room I had expressly turned down during my call earlier in the week.
Returning to the office, I was told they were sorry, but the lady who took my reservation probably was one of the cleaning ladies and neglected to take my phone number and address, so they had not been able to call and confirm we were coming, and so since we were the last of the day to check in they ahad given our king room to someone else. This was completely untrue, as I had given all this info along with my credit card number when making the reservation.
I explained my wife had difficulty sleeping in a bed alone because she needs help turning in the night and we could not use the room. She offered to make a call, and found a suite at the property accross the street, but the cost was $75 more and was also on the 3rd floor with no elevator. When I said this was no good, she offred no solution.
We wound up having to stay here and suffered through getting up from bed all night to turn my wife, having no table so I had to sit on my knees on the floor to use the bed as a desk. But the most annoying thing was the way I was mislead when I arrived, claiming I was getting this great discount when in fact I had been screwed out of the room I had paid for in advance.
No amenities in the room except a TV and VCR; they have a good selection of old movies to borrow as well as some books. There is a microwave in the port that is shared by all guests. There is a minimal continental breakfast of wrapped bars and some fruit and coffee. Aside from being mistreated, the motel is the quintessential beachcomber motel of California, and if economy is your desire, this would be a great pick as long as you make sure to make follow up calls to make sure you get what you reserve. If you plan in advance, there are several nicer motels in the same block that are a much better value.

I booked a room at this motel when I decided to return home through Cayucos from a trip up north. On the way up, we stayed at the Seaside Motel and had a wonderful experience, unfortunately, there were no rooms available on the way back.

Upon check in, I was disappointed to see the room - definitely nothing special, and it wasn't super clean, especially the bathroom. We heard noise all afternoon from the guy working with his skill saw next door to the property. The free wireless internet was not working - the front desk said that "they were were working on it" but continued not to work for the next three days.

I was looking forward to using the propane bbq located on the patio to grill some steaks for dinner; sadly, the tank was empty and the unit looked like it hadn't been used in quite some time.

The next day, the gal came to clean up the room and all she did was pull up the bed covers; she left all of the trash including the pizza box and plates from the night before - yuck. Didn't touch the bathroom either. Sorry, we won't be back.

Very clean, inviting decor, next to the beach (literally). You can fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Very relaxing. The owner is a perfectionist, and every detail matters to her, which was nice for us. Other guests were friendly. Perfect for a family get away from the Los Angeles suburbs.

Thanks to Trip Advisor, we found the small and charming Cayucos Motel. We are traveling with a small dog and are happy to find a place that truly welcomes pets. The motel across the street advertises itself as "pet friendly", but charges $25 extra per pet. The Cayucos Motel does not have a surcharge and welcomed our dog with a personalized gift: a silver bucket with his name on it that was filled with dog treats and toys! A couple pulled into the parking lot just as we were leaving for dinner. I said, "This is a great place to stay" and the man said, "That's good to hear. I'm the owner!" It is a family run business and the people could not be nicer or more helpful. We highly recommend this wonderful motel. It's clean, quiet and centrally located right near the beach and businesses.

Some of the reviews were good, so I thought this was a safe place to stay, this is a very overpriced little motel, we paid over $90 for one night, the price should be closer to $50 MAX, the staff was friendly, rooms were fairly clean (not perfect), but it is a very tacky place, very "cutesy", not at all my style, walls are paper thin, you can hear everything in the adjacent rooms, and I mean everything.

Room Tip: bring ear plugs, walls are paper thin, get the price down, rooms are not worth $90 plus a night...

The Tidewater is an excellent choice in Cayucos. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Very warm staff make you feel right at home. This motel is just steps from the beach, and you are right in the middle of town so you can walk to anything. We loved the recliner chairs out on the lawn! Check it out!

Pet friendly is not nearly descriptive enough! Many places that claim to be pet friendly will not welcome us with three dogs over 100 lbs. each, but the wonderful folks at Cayucos Motel never batted an eye. The dogs were showered with treats and toys, the housekeeping manager's two young children played with them, the owner provided extra quilts and blankets for covering furniture (Mastiffs are notorious for sleeping on furniture.). Can't recommend them enough!
