Greeted at window by creepy young Indian guy (a young couple with 2 small children live on property and run this place). I didn't have time to search for a hotel, decided on this place spur of the moment because of the location fairly close to Carlsbad Beach and near the Carlsbad downtown area (don't let the location lure you in, it is worth the drive and seeking parking to find a better hotel). I was exhausted from a recent move, my first thought was to take a warm shower. I got into the shower, which was great for the first 3 minutes, then the pipes began singing... and I was hit by this horrid stench which began shooting out the shower nozzel. I was covered with what appeared to be sewage water, backed up putrid plumbing which covered me from head to toe. I had been shampooing my hair, so this caught me between the shampoo and the conditioner -- leaving me to have to rinse off with this horrid putrid water. I tried to rationalize that this didn't happen, but after taking the shower, I opened the door to the bathroom and was hit with this horrid stench which had engulfed the bathroom. No, this was NOT a figment of my imagination... I had indeed been COVERED with sewage plumbing stench. I got sick with what appeared to be the flu so bad that I literally couldn't move out for 2 weeks. I stayed there TWO SOLID WEEKS. Three days of that two weeks, I had a similar plumbing experience in the bathroom. I stayed in Room 113, which has a raised step up to the doorway. The walls had been patched up so much that they looked like a patchwork quilt. DECADES, Maybe even a CENTURY of plumbing issues were hidden beneath the cracks in the walls that they had tried to patch up. I was walking my dog around that property and noticed that the small garden smoking seating area smelled exactly like the plumbing/sewage issues which had spewed all over me in the shower. So, not only was this possibly sewage stench, but smelled like pesticides - like Round Up pesticide. Their room key system is the credit card type thing where it clocks out. Day after day, I was having to go back to the office window to get the key updated and the wifi code/password. The young Indian guy was so rude that he would toss the key at the window box. Incredibly RUDE... the type of rude that makes you want to take on a much more stringent immigration policy in the USA. Every day after 11am, the maid would come to the door. She was nice. I asked them specifically to clean the room two days when I was leaving for the afternoon. Both times, the room was left uncleaned. I travel quite a lot, this is THE WORST motel/hotel experience that I have EVER HAD. Don't STAY HERE. There are far better places to stay. Even Motel 6 is much better! The young couple's attitude was pathetic. If you are not good with people and don't like to be in a "service" type industry, then for heaven's sake -- don't work at or own a hotel/motel. The maids were nice and friendly. The young couple running the front desk were really horrid. They have obviously never read Dale Carnegie's book "How to Win Friends and Influence People". If you are stuck here and this is your last available hotel room in the area, make sure that you have a gym membership for a warm shower, nightly. Don't risk the shower plumbing nightmare. When those pipes start singing, you better get out of the shower!…
DO NOT STAY HERE! We recently stayed here for one night and would not recommend it to my worst enemy. Our expectations were not really high given that it is a two star hotel but cleanliness was an expectation. We booked a two bed suite that was literally right on the road with a lot of road noise that comes into the room. I was willing to let this go since it was for one night and disappointing but not a dealbreaker. What was a dealbreaker was the worms that came off the shower wall when the water was turned on. Yes, you heard it correctly. WORMS in the shower. It was beyond disgusting. The room was also dirty and in disrepair, a hunk taken out of the armrest on the sofa, holes in the bedding, trash outside our door, dried who knows what on the desk, filth on the walls, etc. I went to the office to inform them and was given an apology and nothing more. I asked for a refund or partial refund and was denied it. I was told, “I will let my supervisor know. You should have told us there was a problem earlier.” This is definitely not the customer service I was hoping for or the experience I was expecting for $560 for one night.…
Worst stay ever!!!!! Beware! Horrific smells coming from on the bathroom. Toxic and putrid. Cleaning lady with dark hair and glasses banged on my door at 11am and started filming me and yelling at me because I wasn’t checked out. Yes, fi lining me while I was in my underwear. Seriously people. WTF. Don’t make the same mistake. Trust. Lawsuit on the way.
To be frank, I was kind of skeptical to stay here because of the reviews. I was on a budget and looking for a room for 4 nights. The location was great and the rooms were small but nice. The owners live on premises and are hands on. I think that a lot of these complaints and lack of responsiveness from the business is because English is their second language. I personally had a few kind exchanges with them and you could tell they were appreciative. For those 1 star reviews, to get a decent spot a few blocks from the beach for $50 a night...What is there to complain about?
The manager, Vicky and Niel, were exceptional welcoming on my arrival. There were plenty of clean towels and the room was as clean as a whistle. I will definitely be back when I have a business trip again in this area. Close to beach and shops. This place was pet friendly. Maurice also referred me here and was right about everything this place has to offer. I will be back
I stayed here for two nights, and specifically chose this hotel due to their dog friendliness, The first night I discovered there were very thin walls, as I was privy to an argument between neighboring guests. While the room itself was clean, the mattress was very hard and left me with a sore hip. There was no hot water in the bathroom sink. I would have been willing to overlook all of this given the price, however, The second night, while I was listening to my loud neighbors again, the power went out. I took my (very small) dog to the window to speak to the night manager (owner). He apologized and was very friendly, said he would speak to my neighbors about being loud, which he did. The power remained out until 530am, I had to shower and get ready for bed in the dark and could not charge my electronics which were needed to work remotely this morning. When I was packing my car to leave, the owners wife came out and told me they didn’t know I had a dog with me. I explained that not only was I up front about the dog, but it was the whole reason I chose to stay at this property. Additionally, her husband had seen the dog when I walked up to his window the evening prior, and he didn’t say anything about it. They attempted to charge me $200 for not complying to their dog policy. After some discussion, they said they would charge me $25 for the dog and would refund my second night stay due the power outage. Later upon checking my bank, I saw I was charged for two nights, I called the hotel and spoke to the same gentleman. He was now denying any knowledge of our conversation, and insisting that I needed to pay for the two nights I was there. He began yelling at me and acting unprofessionally, and eventually I ended the unproductive conversation and called my bank. I do not recommend this hotel, the owners are deceitful and acted unprofessionally. I travel often and have stayed at a handful of properties in the area, but have never had such a poor experience.…
This hotel seems to have recently renovated. It’s pretty clean and definitely affordable. The walls are paper thin and the rooms are extremely noisy. Neighbors were up until after 1 am each night with TVs super loud. The air conditioner in the room sounds like a lawn mower and the train passes nearby. The bed and bedding is not great. The shower takes literally 5 minutes to get hot and is not much more that a trickle. The location is great and seems to be a safe place. Hard to complain because the price is right, but I would not stay here again.
We brought 2 small dogs (10 lbs each). I notified property when I booked. Booking.com site says pets allowed and fee MAY apply. We are on a limited budget and shopped around to get an affordable rate. We booked for 3 nights. We just arrived and checked in and were told the pet fee is $20 per dog per day. So an additional $40 a day for our dogs. We only paid $50 per night for our room. So now we're paying almost double from what we budgeted. We can't turn around now and go home so have to pay the fee in order to stay. This should be clearly stated before making a booking decision. I'm not happy.
I checked into the Scandia Motel with my daughters for one night and I was pleasantly surprised. The room was big, clean, and updated. I know in the winter months the rates were cheaper so I hope it goes back down but it was a very nice experience and the gentleman at the front desk was so very nice and accommodating. Thank you!!
I stayed here while my home was being fumigated. Chosen for the price and close proximity to the beach, I couldn't have been happier! The owners were so nice. The room was beautifully appointed, so clean and comfortable. It's within walking distance to all Carlsbad Village has to offer. Even though I'm a local, I may have to make this a monthly getaway!
