We were driving so found this hotel easily and liked that it was close to the beach and Carlsbad Village. The property had a lovely entry and the staff were welcoming. Our room was perfect, quiet, and clean. Unfortunately WIFI in the room was inconsistent. We appreciated the fact that breakfast was provided, there was a comfortable library with good WIFI, and they even set out cookies and milk in the evening. An added bonus was a clean area with washer and dryer.
Clean, comfortable room. Great bed. Facility is very resort-like. Great breakfast. Although it’s next to the freeway, you would never know it. It’s very Quiet. Stayed by myself and felt very safe. Would HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
The hotel is pretty nice overall, but the beds were rock hard. They had no give to them except for a thin padding on top. First night I woke up after only four hours from pain. If you don't like very firm, don't stay here. I ended up only staying three out of four nights because I couldn't take the bed for one more night. Staff was good. The breakfast was fine. Nothing special.
Gave this four stars as pets are allowed, otherwise for this class hotel, I would go with 5 stars. We were in the area for a family wedding. We booked a four night stay. Several other relatives also stayed here & were pleased. The hotel is right off a busy, main road, however noise was never an issue. The lobby & eating area was clean & well appointed for this class of hotel. All the staff was friendly. We had no issues at all. Breakfast bar had some healthy options including real oatmeal. Our room was clean. I liked the counter space & the makeup mirror. There was also a wet bar, fridge & a microwave in the room. The hair dryer had several settings. Very comfortable bed. We had an older bathroom with a tub that could have used a little renovation. Another relative had a walk in shower. If in the area again we would request a walk in shower rather than a tub. While I like animals I don’t want to stay in a hotel room that allows pets. Very hard to find a pet free hotel. Fortunately, the 3rd floor is pet free. We were not bothered by barking dogs. Also as we were near Legoland, this is a family friendly hotel so there were lots of kids. We were fortunate not to have noise issues or nor were kids running the hallways. The workout room looked fine. We opted to walk & enjoy the ocean rather than use the fitness room. The hot tub had good jets & was clean. Pool area was nice for a non resort hotel. Good for kids. Towels were provided. Very convenient to the ocean-walking distance if you like to walk. Found nice restaurants & took a day trip to the Safari Park (wonderful). The drive took about 45 min. Also a very easy drive to the San Diego Airport. I would stay here again if visiting Carlsbad/Encinitas area.…
West Inn is our ‘go to’ in Carlsbad but their services are not ‘so great’ anymore. We went on a weekday and stayed 2 nights. Before we were able to check in early but it probably depends on who you deal with at the front desk. Some are accommodating and some are not. The hand rail inside the elevator is dusty, The pool seems liked it was not serviced in the morning. There are no towels, no complimentary water in pool area. Will think twice next time to book there.
We stayed at the hotel for approximately 30 days. Front desk was very welcoming and room service was always super friendly. Unfortunately, the room we were put in had mold growing all over the side table. We stayed in the room for two weeks before my husband saw the mold growing all the way to the carpet. My eczema reacted severely to this issue and my dog would puke on his walks. We were provided an alternate room but no further compensation or even an apology. The lady helping us continued to blame us stating we put the a/c too low. As stated by Heating & Cooling: “Your A/C Can Prevent Household Mold Growth”. I felt as though they were making us the bad guy without apologizing. In addition to the mold growth, there was blood stains on several of our pillows. They used the pillow cases to hide the stains but as I opened the pillows, you can clearly see stains of blood. Pictures below is my eczema flare ups that I am still dealing with to this day, mold growth and blood stained pillows. Deeply saddened with this experience.…
Pros - Property outside looks very pretty, lobby is inviting and clean, plenty of parking, good breakfast in the morning and cookies and milk in the evening are a nice snack. Cons - Cleanliness of room (I picked chips up off the floor and there was a lot of dust), If staying 4 nights your room gets cleaned after the 3rd night, not sure why they wouldn't clean it half way through stay, I asked ahead of time for a quiet room and they couldn't have placed me in a louder room, the room I was in was very dark, the chairs and umbrellas they lend out for the beach need to be replaced and they should have beach towels. Staff, was mostly friendly. The younger aged staff were helpful. There was an older women working, it seemed like all the time and she wasn't the most friendly, but maybe that was because she seemed to be there all the time. I think I would give them another try.…
This used to be our go-to hotel in the Carlsbad area. This was our first visit since the pandemic began and unfortunately, the hotel has gone far downhill, so much so that I can't see staying here again in the future. Overall the staff was friendly and accommodating, but some of them not so much. There was a mix up with our room and the staff rectified it pretty easily (thank you), but I might have been caught sooner had their email system been working. I made two reservations and never received confirmation of either, I called them several times to let them know the emails were not coming through but nothing was done about it (yes I am sure it did not go to spam), and other confirmations I made for a return trip to the area for a different hotel came through just fine. The carpets, both in the lobby and in the rooms is filthy. Looks like it has never been cleaned. There were fingerprints on everything in the room. The towels felt like sand paper, they had that hang dried feeling, not as if they were put in the dryer, they were not fluffy at all. The sheets on the pull out sofa bed actually had holes in them. Also, upon check in the attendant indicated that our room would be cleaned a couple of days after we arrived. I assumed we could request more frequent service but when we did so, we were told that the room would ONLY be cleaned one day. After a bit of back and forth the staff relented. They said this rule was due to covid, but none of the hotel staff were wearing masks. If this is going to be your policy please let me know when the reservation is being made, not during check in. I would have booked a reservation elsewhere had I known this. This is not acceptable for a 4 night stay and I have stayed at other hotels in the area that are fully servicing rooms in the last year. Also, the front and back parking lot was nearly empty our entire stay and I saw very few guests in the hotel. The staff seems overworked, I saw the same 3-4 faces during our entire stay. Calls to the front desk were not answered. Most of the time, we received a call back shortly after except for one morning when no one answered the phone, so we walked to the front desk to find the person on duty asleep. The safe in the room was broken and the front desk attendant did not know how to re-set it. There were some pros - the king sized beds are still the most comfortable hotel beds I have slept in, they still serve breakfast, the hotel is in a nice location and there is a gas station on site. These are nice perks but not enough for us to return to this hotel. So sad to see this place suffer due to poor maintenance and low staff numbers, but we will find other accommodations when we come back to Carlsbad. We visit at twice once per year for around ten years at this point.…
Stayed here from April 29th through May 1st for a quick weekend getaway with the kids aged 4 and 8. Overall a pleasant visit with more pros than cons. Pro: Great location to Legoland, outlets, freeway, gas station. Nice comfy bed, loved the fridge, microwave, wifi signal was decent, breakfast option was good too as they served pastries, eggs, potatoes, waffles, oatmeal, fruit etc. Pool was unheated but jacuzzi was available. Lots of parking as restaurant next door was closed. Receptionists were helpful and courteous. Cons: Although bathroom was clean, room wasn't thoroughly clean. Under the bed were candy wrappers, peanuts and small trash. Also the water from the fountains/dining/reception area just didn't taste right as I don't know what type of filter they used. This just left a weird aftertaste. Overall, the price we paid justified the cons and we know what to expect next time. We would totally stay here again as it was more pleasant than upsetting. …
Would give no stars if yelp allowed it. This has been our regular spring break hotel spot for the last 4 years. Never coming back again. Checked in and the room had a flimsy dirty showerhead with gunk on it, dirty vents, broken outlet, non-working tv, broken deadbolt.. that’s just the beginning! We were on the 3rd floor where all the rooms had dirty trash outside their doors (diapers and food) and there was a empty 13 gallon trashbag stinking up the ice machine. They moved us to a different room the next day, same thing, dirty trash out in the halls, they put us in a ADA compliant room (why?? 1 adult and 2 kids), this one had a bathroom sink that didn’t drain, a shower with no water pressure (the pressure at the outdoor shower by the pool had better pressure), oh and I had to make the beds for us because, guess what?! they didn’t bother with fitted sheets so when my kids moved around, all the sheets came out! Also, I believe pre-pandemic, they started charging $100 on your card for “incidentals” plus a “amenities fee”. Well, owner of West Inn and Suites, if you’re going to charge an “amenities fee” you should have your pool heated like it says it is on your website. False advertising, really bad breakfast, poor service (Mon a.m. manager was beyond rude) and neglect all over the property, even the restrooms by check in were disgusting and outdated. Posting this on trip advisor, expedia, travelocity and hotels.com for all the non-yelpers. I wish I could get a damn refund for our stay. What a horrible vacation.…
