The FogCatcher Inn boasts an impressive location near the beach, celebrated by guests for its scenic ocean views. While the cleanliness of the hotel receives commendation for its spotless rooms and tidy grounds, some guests have experienced issues with housekeeping. Opinions on the rooms are mixed; some visitors enjoy their spaciousness and vistas, but others criticize them as outdated and poorly maintained. The Inn's amenities, including cozy fireplaces, add to its charm, although concerns over upkeep persist. Service is generally seen as friendly, yet inconsistencies, particularly in housekeeping, have disappointed some. Despite the comfortable atmosphere and picturesque setting, numerous travelers question the value, pointing to the high costs relative to the aging facilities and services provided.

This property is directly across the street from Moonstone Beach and Boardwalk with excellent views and within easy walking distance of several great restaurants, one which provides room service to the motel itself. By all means splurge a little and reserve a king suite room which provides a separate living and dining area from the large bedroom, a fireplace, and a small kitchenette area with frig and microwave. It is well worth the few extra dollars for the space and ocean view right from your unit. It was really perfect, the staff attended to our every request, the pool/spa/firepit area was centrally located and great. We hope to be able to return to enjoy this venue again.

We recently stayed at the FogCatcher Inn. Right across the street is Moonstone Beach. We stayed in a first floor unit facing the ocean. It was a good sized room with two queen beds.

Covid pandemic precautions in place for check in with social distancing, plexiglass separating the hotel staff person, masks worn. Contactless text check out process. Clean rooms. Text or phone communication with the front office with needs/concerns. Direct entry into room from outside through front door.

Pros: We enjoyed having an in-room fireplace, microwave, small refrigerator, coffee and coffee maker. The tall bar table and desk came in handy for dining in since during our travel, restaurants only offered take out service due to public health orders/covid pandemic. The bathroom was supplied with shampoo, conditioner, soap and body wash. On the grounds there are fire pits that guests can use on a first come first serve basis. We were able to sit at one of the fire pits in the evenings by ourselves when we used it.

Cons: No in-room safe. When the window shades are rolled up people outside can look into this particular room especially if it's darker outside. Room shows some wear.

Tips: Bring your own wine and hot cocoa. It's handy to have extra paper plates, napkins, and cups for take out meals.

The Fog Catcher Inn has everything we were looking for.
Location: Right across the street from Moon Stone Beach.
Parking: Right in front of your room.
The Rooms: Clean and Comfortable, well laid out. Hair dryer, Iron, Fan, Microwave, Refrigerator. Beds and chairs are soft and inviting, There is a gas fireplace to heat the room and plenty of windows to open so you can sleep to the sound of the ocean.
Speaking of sounds, the rooms on each side of ours were occupied and we never heard a sound from them.
Internet: Yes of course. Fast enough speed for us to keep things running smoothly during our absence.
The Staff: Polite, Promt, and very professional. There when you needed assistance and then gone just has quickly.
Breakfast: Yes. There is a breakfast room that has eggs, country potatoes, sausage, toast, oatmeal, waffles, cereal, coffee, juice and fresh fruit.
Ice and Soda located directly across from the breakfast room.
While there we shopped at several of the businesses in Cambria and mentioned where we were staying. Many of the locals said when they have family coming to town The Fog Catcher is where they like to stay. We completely agree.
We all our different but for our family The Fog Catcher Inn is Simply The Best.

We've been to Fog Cather Inn several times, it is a gorgeous location, we also received an upgrade after reminding the hotel manager that we are loyal, regular guests. The room itself was beautiful, however when we first walked into our room, we noticed there was syrup on the TV console and it was not clean, there was hair in the bathroom. Since the view was so gorgeous we didn't bother to report any of this to the hotel staff. The breakfast was ok. During our last visit, we complained about the fireplace glass getting too hot. There were still no signs near the fire place to warn guests that the glass can get very hot. Overall, we had a good time but the staff can do a better job at cleaning the facilities, especially when they are charging $315.00 or higher per night.

I will definitely be discussing your experience with our team to make sure we are all doing the best we can for our guests. My wife and I just left from a weekend get away from this location. I have some major complaints but I’d like to address the positives first. The location is perfect- sitting right on the highway overlooking the ocean is what makes this property attractive. Also, the “cottage” vibe gives it an authentic feel with fire pits and lounging chairs facing the water. I was also very surprised to see common amenities available in the room such as a coffee maker and refrigerator considering COVID restrictions.

More importantly however, this location needs an urgent update ASAP. Our stay was so uncomfortable. The couch was super dirty and dusty. The pillows are horribly dirty. The couch is obviously dated (minimally 15-20 years) and is extremely loud and uncomfortable. This is a huge disappointment considering the main attraction of the room is the fireplace. We would’ve loved to spend more time in front of the fireplace if it wasn’t for this couch.

The fabric on the chairs are completely soiled. Obviously never cleaned or cared for. The chairs themselves are falling apart.

I’m unsure how dirty the floor is since most hotels now have lighter floors for their guests to visually see the cleanliness as this one has dark flooring.

The blinds on the windows are warped and falling apart. They don’t hang right and the screens on the windows have holes in them which leads to my next complaint...bugs!

We killed 3 bugs. I get it. I understand where we stayed at is a “Inn/Motel”. I get that. But let’s at least make some proactive steps to ensure the bugs can stay out! Spiders are not fun to kill when you’re on the toilet.

The bed was surprisingly comfortable considering all of the above.

We had to call twice to get additional toilet paper (you only get one roll in your room). And ultimately walked up to the desk as it seemed we were forgotten about. Again, we understand we did not book at a five star location and also are heavily considering COVID restrictions but this just basic stuff.

Honestly, a fresh coat of paint, some new furniture will go extremely far with this location. Super disappointed!

This Inn has an amazing location, just steps away from the gorgeous Moonstone Beach. The Staff was very friendly and helpful and the morning breakfast buffet was satisfactory but nothing special (I recommend dining outside and hearing the waves crash). The rooms are little more "motel" than "hotel," so you are paying more for the location than luxury. The fire pit has fantastic views. The pool and hot tub were well maintained and overall I was pleased with the stay.

We love this hotel. We come to the Fog catcher Inn 3-4 times a year and always feel at home. The service is personalized, friendly helpful, and respectful. The front desk personnel make you feel as if everything is personalized to your needs, take care of any problems immediately, and help you find recreation, food, and activities tailored to your desires. Though all front desk staff are friendly and helpful, I have to give a special shout out to Greg who has been so helpful every visit we make! Everything is clean, the location is amazing, across the street from the beach so you hear the waves crashing as you sleep, and within walking distance of at least two restaurants. The town is less than a mile away. If you like to get up and go for a walk or run on the beach or a hike down cool trails and just explore, this is the affordable place for you! We will continue to come back!

First, the good. We stayed for 3 nights across 2 rooms (due to availability), an ocean view king (room 121) and ocean view two queen (323). Both the rooms were clean, and the views were lovely. You can hear the waves and see the sea. The fireplaces are so cosy and it’s great to have a fridge and microwave. The main difference between the two rooms was the size of the room and especially the bathroom - much bigger in the king, though both rooms had tubs.

By the time we left a few things in the rooms struck me as needing improvement - the pillows seem pretty ancient; I was taken aback to see that the duvets don’t have a cover on them but are sandwiched between a flat sheet and coverlet - seems unhygienic; and the windows in our second room didn’t close or lock. Travelling alone with my 8 year old I didn’t love that.

But what really struck me about our stay was the staff. I had altered my reservation with a suuuuper friendly snd helpful man on the phone so was coming in looking forward to a good experience. Alas:
Desk staff were utterly grumpy and do nothing to go out of their way to help you. On arrival despite the place being deserted (rainy Tuesday evening) no offer to show us our room or help with bags or even an umbrella despite sheeting rain.
On other occasions: when I went into the office because our room key didn’t work, and was explaining, the woman at the desk interrupted with a sarcastic “what do you need?” (Again, place is deserted, there are maybe two other guests, they are not busy.)
The days we stayed there was a crazy storm and after making some calls to order dinner I found out that every restaurant in cambria was closed, which came as a surprise. Fortunately I had brought us enough to keep us going, but no one dropped us a courtesy call to see if we had, you know, food.
Lastly on our last morning when the sun came out, my daughter was excited to use the pool, which she had SO been looking forward to (all the public pools where we live are closed) and hadn’t been able to because of the rain. We went down at 10am to find it closed for cleaning. We popped into the office to see when they’d be done and the woman there, Trinidad, was sitting with her mask down. She replaced it over her mouth, (but not nose) when we came in, but in a small office she’s rather missing the point of the mask. When I politely asked if we could use the pool that afternoon, she couldn’t have been ruder. No smile, unpleasant tone of voice, flat refusal to let us use the pool later, when she had the chance to make a kid’s day. Girl, the hospitality industry is not for you.

Bottom line, the staff treat this place like they’re running a motel, not a hotel (can think of more welcoming motels honestly) and unless you get a very good deal on your room you will end up feeling short changed.

Dear helenamB2463PX, I am very sorry to hear about your experience while staying with us. The storm we had during your stay was one of the worst we have had over recent years. I apologize if we gave you the impression that we are a full-service hotel. We are a very quaint property and can only provide limited services. We have an umbrella for guest use, but it may have been in use at the time of your check-in. We make up our beds using “triple sheeting”, a widely used industry standard, that is a more hygienic than using duvet covers. Cambria experienced historic flooding on Main Street. Restaurants were forced to close as most of the town lost power for several days due to the storm. I am happy to see you did make use of your pool reservation on Wednesday during your stay. After the storm was over, we were forced to close the pool for the safety of our guests as rainwater flooded the pool and deck. We are required by the county health department to close the pool after a storm due to contaminated water conditions, and it would have been irresponsible for us to allow guests to use the pool. It does take time to clean and chemically balance the water after the flooding we experienced. We do apologize for the inconveniences this caused during your stay. I assure you these storms have caused chaos beyond the control of the staff. We pride ourselves on providing great experiences and apologize we fell short on this stay. We hope we can retain your patronage and allow us to provide a great stay next time you are in Cambria. Warmest Regards, Greg Heyn General Manager

After researching and reading reviews we booked Fog Catcher and upgraded to a larger room since traveling with 2 children and 1 adult. The property in person is run down and dirty. Our room had mold in the bathroom and the pull out sofa was incredibly uncomfortable you could feel the wires of the frame. The bathroom mirror has a lighted component that does not turn off which made it difficult to sleep as we could not shut bathroom door because of stuffy moldy smell. Breakfast was inedible with trash cans overflowing. Save your money and stay at one of the more updates properties down the way.

I’m giving this review three out of five for the sheer fact that it’s located right across the street from Moonstone Beach. We stayed for 3 nights and they offered no housekeeping service. In order to get our new towels we had to haul our dirty ones to the front office (no gloves, I offered to put them in a hamper so they didn’t have to touch them but they said oh no that’s OK) and they exchanged them for new ones. And yes I do understand this stay was during the pandemic but don’t you think it would be safer for them to have a housekeeper exchange towels than me to hand my dirty towels to the front desk person?! Each time I asked for new toiletries it was like I was asking for gold bullion.

Hi there! Thanks for your inquiry. This does sound a little different from the FogCatcher Inn. The hotel does have an cottage design and a full-hot complimentary breakfast buffet that our guests rave about. We'd be happy to have you join us! Just give us a call and we will gladly assist with your reservation.

The rooms at the Fog Catcher Inn are adjoined. There are both adjoined single story sections and two storied adjoined sections. I don't remember sound from adjacent rooms being a problem, once inside the room outside sounds didn't noticeably intrude.

Thank you for your inquiry! We'd love to have you and your mother join us for her birthday celebration. Our ocean view rooms are all 2nd floor rooms with large windows overlooking the water. Our partial view rooms do face the ocean directly, however, they are on a lower floor. We have one room that has a balcony overlooking the ocean. It is available for two of your three nights and can be reserved by calling the hotel directly. Feel free to call FogCatcher directly for anything at anytime! 805-927-1400
