We were suppose to arrive in October for 8 days. At the Melia resorts in Mexico we would always send in our dinner reservation ahead of our stay. After contacting the Reserve we were informed that the resort is closed and we would be staying at the Grand Cana instead. We has a swim out booked at the Reserve. We are being told that we will get a swim out at the Grand Cana but it will be in the outer circle. After reading the reviews and seeing these swim out face the main road we feel they are doing a switch and bait. They decided to move us so we feel we should be in the inner circle as well. Other items: Grand Cana is the furthest from the beach. We got told we can't make advance dinner reservations - must be done on arrival and that we will need to take what's available. We can't get an answer if any food and drinks are available on the beach. They only have 5 restaurants at the Grand Cana - they count the Asian as 3 different ones so they claim they have a total of 7. We love their resorts in Mexico and expected the same level of service from them in DR. We always book Royal Service so we are used to the elevated service. We understand COVID is playing a part in the closure of the resort. They should be more upfront and notify guests staying at the Reserve its closed and they plan to move them a lot sooner. We got told we would have gotten an email a couple of days before arrival of the change and at that point you do not have the option to cancel without paying a penalty. We are now looking to stay somewhere else or just cancel this trip.

Just for interests as a Melia Reward member I wanted to get some information about the Reserve to spend our next vacation as a family there.Ironically the unprofessional guy at the reception gave us today annoyable false ridicioulous information in such a horrible explanations that we decided not to stay for our next vacation in the paradisus resort and will choose another luxury one. Also the behavior of the palma shop employees was very unproessional and primitive and does not leave agood impression even to Melia Rewards Memebers.

Our staff is consistently complimented for the care and dedication they invest in providing all our visitors with quality service. For this reason, we are concerned to know what impression our staff has taken away. Please be assured that the relevant departments were correctly informed, as this is not the image we would like to project. Your perception is relevant to us; please feel free to reach out to us directly whenever you assist, it will be a pleasure to help. Once again, we apologize for the eventualities and would be pleased if you allow us the opportunity and honor to welcome you back to our hotel to change your impression. We had an issue at check-in, where our reservation could not be found. We booked through RCI, and between RCI and the resort communication failed, somewhere. The food was OK, left room for more to be desired. But I think this is for all inclusive locations. The staff and concierge Dalani went above and beyond, she made our experience most memorable.

Worst vacation we ever had! Don’t go. My family and I stay there the second week of August. We were assured by the hotel prior to our arrival that they were up and running 100% and that we would have a top shelf experience. We requested Side-by-side rooms for our daughters to be close to us. They requested that months in advance. When we arrived check in took forever - When you’re staying in the reserve they make you walk to a different part of the hotel away from the main lobby to check in in the lounge area. It could be really nice but they were fruit flies buzzing all around the food in the lounge, and that was the case every single day we stuck her head in the lounge. It was gross. And they made us sit in the lounge for about an hour as they leisure Lee told us about the hotel and we waited for the concierge to show up. It just dragged on and on and we wanted to begin our vacation. Our rooms weren’t ready when we arrivedBut we understood because we had arrived before the official check-in hour and had previously arranged an excursion. We reminded them that we needed the rooms to be beside each other. They said no problem. Five hours later when we got back to the hotel from our excursion with Hispaniola (they are wonderful btw!!), We saw that our luggage was still sitting outside in the driveway of the hotel in the heat. For five hours! That meant our make up and computers I had been out in the heat for five hours. And because it was sitting in the driveway anyone could’ve walked away with it. Mind you, When we arrived initially they said they would put it in the luggage room right away until our rooms were ready. Ridiculous. Then we go to find out our room numbers and we are told that our daughters room is on a whole different floor. When I reminded them that we ask for our daughters room to be beside ours the concierge said “I don’t know what the problem is they’re in the same building!” The same building? Really?! This was a simple request and we had spent an enormous amount of money to stay in this resort. Astonishing. After another hour they were able to arrange so that I rooms were beside one another. It’s very interesting because it was clear that the hotel was not fully occupied. There were loads of empty rooms and nothing was crowded. Nevertheless we go to our rooms happily and relieved. That only lasted a few minutes because once we got to the rooms which were gorgeous by the way, The electricity started going out in our rooms for a total of five times in two hours. At the same time being very sweaty and dirty from our excursion we were anxious to take showers and we quickly found out that there was no hot water. Zero. Not even lukewarm water! Just ice cold! There was clearly a problem. At the very same time we also found dirty laundry from a prior guest.! Grossss! It was like we were being pumped. It was becoming almost laughable. Dirty laundry, no hot water, no electricity, are you kidding?!. After repeated attempts to get someone to help us I asked for the manager. It was clear no one wanted me to talk to the manager because I was handed off to seven or eight different people who I was told were the manager but then found out that none of them were the manager! After a long day on her excursion, I could wait no longer for a shower so I braved a cold shower while my husband was making sure that our daughters were OK. While I was in the shower he comes back into the room to find out the shower was leaking through the wall and out into our bedroom. It was a river of water that was now throughout our room on slick and slippery marble tile. We nearly broke our necks. Now after everything else, we are cleaning and mopping the floors too! .Finally a lady shows up in my room with a notepad and pen. I asked her if she was the manager and she said she was. I went through all of the problems that we had had and all she would say was that she was sorry. I have a career in customer service. 25 years in the business. This was her opportunity and the hotels opportunity to make a lousy experience a wow experience. She could’ve offered to move us to different rooms. She could’ve offered to upgrade us. She could have done any number of things to make it right. But she did nothing other than bring five repair man into our room and our daughters room to work! We had to exit our rooms so they could work on our rooms. No accommodations were made. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. We try to move on the next day and forget about what had happened. It just kept getting worse. At first glance the property looks beautiful. But when you look more closely you see broken tiles, lights falling off the ceiling/walls/pool, peeling paint, rotting wood, broken molding, dirty pools, no handrails or loose handrails. In the main pool two of the underwater lights had come loose and were floating in the pool with long electrical wires trailing as children swam nearby. We brought this to the attention of the maintenance people. There were broken lounge chairs. We also had to bring that to the attention of maintenance. Rather than take the broken chairs away they just moved them to the side where another guest could use them. It was insane. There were several areas where there were no handrails. And Day 2 I missed a step outside where there was no handrail or safety caution tape on some stairs - I fell hard, skinning my arms and knees and hurt my back. Blood everywhere. Day 5 I slipped on wet slippery tile in the hall. Dangerous lack of housekeeping and maintenance! We were DONE! The food was lousy. You couldn’t even get a good hamburger or chicken fingers for the kids. They would make these things in advance and put them on the side and then warm them up on the grill when someone one of them. They were hard as bricks. How can you mess up a hamburger or chicken fingers? This hotel was able to do that. My husband and I were really expecting exceptional food. The best meal we had was at the steakhouse Sal, but even that was mediocre at best. My kids lived on rice and beans from the Buffay for lunch and dinner every day. That’s because everything else was so bad. And calling room service was a joke. They were so rigid and I accommodating at every turn. This was the first vacation we’ve had in my 52 years that we couldn’t wait to get home. Oh and that lady who claimed to be the manager whobrought her notebook and pen to my room? We saw her later in the week at the concierge desk. Turns out she wasn’t a manager at all - although she lied and said she was! She was a concierge. So I never actually got to speak to a manager to complain. Insane! Do not go. It is a rundown, poorly run, dangerous resort. We will not go back. The day that we left the hotel made a big fanfare of giving us a certificate for two free nights for a future stay. And they wanted us to sign showing that we accepted this compensation. I told him that there would be no way that we would ever return. And that what they should be doing is giving us money off our stay for all we had endured. It’s laughable for them to think that we would give them more of our hard earned money at a future visit.

The hotel is old and in bad condition and The Reserve (the premium category) was not fully working; actually you will get the same room if you pay the regular Palma Real or the Reserve. The adult exclusive section, was full of children and the hotel staff did not cared at all even though we let them aware and complain. On the other hand, the food was terrible, we got sick in 2 of them. You cannot go to the beach since it is full of seaweed so if you plan to swim in the sea, it won’t be possible at all. We stayed a full week and full of seaweed everyday. On the other hand they will chase you to attend a “sales” speech of 1 our to sell their The Circle service: full 1 our that is a complete waist of time. The only good aspect is that the hotel is full of vegetation and staff are kind. I would not choose to go back to this hotel, sincerely the experience was bad, the facilities are not good and price is much higher than other similar hotels.
