We decided to stay at a highly rated hotel and were very upset with what most people called 4 to 5 star hotel, it was not! The hotel is very worn, needs lots of repairs and upgrades! The room had broken light switches, broken shower, tv not working, had to call for engineer to fix lights. I was so disappointed, then why we went there the weekend buffet, wow so disappointment, food poor, no taste, poor selection! TERRIBLE!

Disappointing experience. I have had high expectations for the Oriental Leyte. I have stayed here in 2019, and it was a splendid experience. The food was great, the rooms were classy, overall service was splendid. Now, after 4 years and post-pandemic, the hotel seemed to be in bad shape. Many of the facilities are in shabby. Food in the restaurant was the worst. Breakfast buffet was awful. Mismanaged, probably? I have this feeling the entire time that we are not actually getting what we paid for. I would rather stay in a cheaper hotel. Our dinner experience at their Samsara restaurant is another bad story. I ordered pad thai, but they gave me a spaghetti with tomato sauce topped with egg, lime and tofu. It tasted so bad. I returned it and told their service crew that I cannot accept it. So to replace it, I ordered their Macarthur Burger. It tasted so bad as well. They said they changed their executive chef. Then I think they should revamp their menu because none of their cooks know how to prepare what is on the Menu.

By far the best hotel in Tacloban. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Rooms are spacious, but somewhat modestly furnished. The area is luxurious, but does seem to suffer somewhat from a lack of maintenance. I had a great and relaxing stay.

No cell service (Could have been corrected with boosters); No WiFi (Signal does not reach rooms. With signal, sh*t service.) Room reeks off insecticide! Broken bed! Sh*t AC! No freaking water! The manager then answers with: "The WiFi is out of our control." Like WTF?! You had control of all other basic services and you chose to not. I can't even.

Upon first view, the lobby, the grounds, and the rooms, even the restaurant promised a luxurious resort-like stay. As time progressed,, the layers of inadequate to completely lacking to unacceptable service became more and more apparent. From sheets to towels were stained, you were never sure if it was dirt that you could brush off or a stain. There was a constant sewer smell from the bathroom that did not seem to ever dissipate. The most appalling of all was that when we got home from a long day, our bed was haphazardly made, dirty dishes were not collected - the room was basically unmade, not cleaned, not attended to. To make things worse, little things like asking for a little milk to be brought to the room for tea or an extra towel all involved additional charges. When asked to waive a towel charge because it was not used, they refused because we did not return the towel on the day. Rotten fruit because it looked so promising but on the inside it was not!

Promised early check in at no charge. Arrived, told there is a charge. Waited 20 minutes for them to notice us in the restaurant on at least 2 occasions. We brought a few kids to swim for an hour- charged us for that too. We were the only ones there.

As always want to relax one day in a better hotel at the end. And the Oriental seemed just that. I could not have been more wrong! First impressions last. When arriving, the bag boy ran towards me to help. But then when arriving at reception, three staff members standing there, where a bit clueless what to do. No welcome, or whatsoever. After a minute I decided to ask or I please could check in. Being there at 2.15pm, I was expecting my room to be ready. But they told me it was not, and government allowed them to check in at 3pm. Uhm.... ?! Anyways, while waiting I decided to sit in the restaurant and have some food, a nice lunch perhaps! Too bad, kitchen only served 3 sandwiches after 2pm, as they are preparing for the buffet tonight. "Uhm, what?!". So kitchen is not serving food after 2pm? So had a simple tuna sandwich. Then I see people, that arrived after me, checking in and going to their room, so I decided to ask or my room is ready yet, and it was. No one thought to inform me, and instead let me wait. Now, here it comes: while checking in, still an empty stomach of the closed kitchen, they told me the rules: no food from outside, unless you pay corkage! I had to ask again or it was correct what I just heard, so I tried to understand the logic: "So, you close the restaurant after 2pm and not serve food, and then only allow food if your customers pay corkage fees instead?". This was confirmed. Look, I have no intentions to get food from outside, if you serve food normally, as any other hotel (especially 4 star) would do. So far my impressions, and I had not even been to my room! And before the manager says (as he/she said before) this is a candid review: Sir/Ma'am, nothing candid about this, as your service and quality (or lack of it) is so obvious! Room Well, Paying 100 USD for a simple queen bed room, you would expect a tat of luxury. Check the photos, no need to say more. The hotel is dated! And sure, it been tough years (Jolanda, Covid19, etc). But then do not charge 4 star rates until you actually worth that price! Old room, dirty sofa, 21 inch TV or something, dirty carpet, seats outside were falling apart, etc etc. A hostel in the Bronx would do better! The only clean thing, was the CR and bedsheets (lucky enough). Night I am not sure where it came from, as we were the last room in the building, next to off limit rooms (I guess staff?!). But at 2am, they decided to move around their furniture for 2 hours long! Not lifting, but pushing. It could have come from restaurant as well and carried the noise. But what Hotel does that NOT quietly at 2am! Amenities Gym and two pools. The sun bathing chairs were new, so one point there. Pool was nice, but could a huge renovation (most tiles on top were missing, giving it a cheap look). Also at night (when all deficiencies are hidden) and the lights were on, the garden looks nice and romantic. Staff As said, coming just from Hotel XYZ, where staff was well trained, attentive and smiling, this was a bit of a dumper. Bag boy was good, and one or two people in the restaurant were trying to make up for the bad management. But overall, what a disappointment! Conclusion This is NOT a worthy 4 star hotel and definitely not worth the price they are asking. For some reason Agoda shows high ratings, but when u go through it, u will find some honest reports (also on tripdadvisor). I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone, unless they fix things and adjust their prices to like a third of what it is asking now. (40 USD would be more appropriate). And again, Manager that replies: I did try to give you the feedback directly, but guess what: you were not around or any other manager / responsible in that matter!

VISIT: beginning of March 2020 BOOKING: directly through their site We had a great stay here. For Philippine, especially Leyte standards this stay was 5 stars! The dinner and breakfast spread every day was great, with plenty to choose from, including their drinks menu. They have their fire show every night, which my husband and I loved! My uncle that lives here, obviously, doesn't think it's anything to right home about, but they've seen it multiple times. The staff were friendly and attentive and we had great communication with the company even before we arrived. Our flight arrived VERY early in the morning, several hours before check-in and I was able to e-mail them to make sure we could check-in early (we took a red-eye flight from Bali) and definitely wanted some time to check-in and catch up on sleep! As, I have a family here, I am sure I will be back! For those not used to Philippines standards, I did watch bug crawl out of the buffet, so I feel as though it would make some a bit queasy. For those familiar with the Philippines, this is just harder to control there, especially the humidity. Overall, the place was clean, but it is hard to compare to American standards vs Philippine standards. Considering where you are, I think it was great stay and we had no complaints! I hope to post photos soon, as I am very behind on editing them!

When I arrived, no one welcomed me. I unloaded all of my stuff including heavy luggages. When i got to my room, room was very claustrophobic so i transferred to a much more expensive room (ocean view). Beds were even more of a shock. It was like checking in to a very cheap motel. Beds were very stiff. The veranda was filled with dirty tissue papers. Very Disappointing place considering it was a “4 star Hotel” Do not go to this place. Overpriced. almost 100usd rate for a cheap motel experience. Cable didn’t even have good reception.
