Sydney hotel was quite small and wasn't appealing but is clean at the reception area. The staffs were polite and greet you whenever they see you. The rooms condition varies on your luck. My room with my room mate is consider good as it is clean, have balcony with great view, bathroom were nice enough, toilet have full flooded type of flush that would flush quite cleanly. They have the shower head which was not portable. You have to figure out which knob is the hot or cold water and which one belongs to the tap below. Aircon is cool enough, there aren't any cockroach in our room but at the 3rd night there are lizard, and two small insects. The bed was visibiliy clean.

As for my other friends who stayed in the other rooms, their room condition wasn't as clean. One of them have to kill insects every morning. Cockroach, lizards etc. Some have no balcony nor good view, but bathroom is decently clean enough.

Their complimentary breakfast wasn't that nice. It's sort of below average but still it's edible though slightly oily. The coffee doesn't have much taste so it would be better to drink tea. If you have a weak stomach, avoid drinking the ice water offer to you.

Haven't really get to try the rooftop grill, so I can't give much review on that. At night, you may have a folk song 'lullaby' sang to you by the KTV bar opposite. If you are a light sleeper, I would suggest you put on a headphone or ear pierce and listen to your own music while sleeping.

There isn't street lights on the street at night, so avoid going out alone at night. It's quite dark when it reach 5 plus pm. If you ask me what kind of room I stayed, well I stayed in twin sharing room for 4 nights. The recommended room number if you can choose is Room 410. It's quite comfortable for that room except that we don't have the 'do not disturb' sign but only 'please make up my room' sign during our stay.

The wifi in that room is quite good for Samsung phone but still there are occasionally on and off network.

The SYDNEY HOTEL is located at downtown General Santos. If you have a reason to be in this downtown area, this is an okay choice. Nothing is really far in any case, so other hotels are only an 8 Peso tricycle ride away from this area as well. The Sydney is across the street from a very nice small park where you can walk or sit. The hotel is near a supermarket and places to eat. We walked in that area and it seemed okay in terms of safety.

I would say that this is one of the friendlier hotels we stayed at in General Santos or even compared to other places. For sure, there is a person behind the scenes training staff how to be responsive to guests and how to greet all guests enthusiastically…in chorus at times, such as when you enter the hotel or run into staff inside of the hotel or even entering the dining area.

The hotel itself has seen better days. Room floor tiles are cracked and the rooms have not been updated in years. The rooms are clean though and comfortable enough. The TV and AC worked well. The Wi-FI reached our room as the router is nearby and worked well when it was on…but it did go on and off at times. One of the last reviewers commented on cock roaches, and interesting enough, we did see one; I repeat, one cock roach (only) when we first unpacked, but never saw one again. Hey, it’s the tropics, there will be cockroaches, but at least for us, our room was NOT infested as the former reviewer stated and one cockroach is nothing when compared to other hotels or the reality of the tropics.

The room is large enough and has an outside patio to sit on which in our case faced the Chicken Hauz next door. This is good and bad as the patio was nice to sit, but on that side of the hotel there is a videoke music bar that cranked it up at night. It did not really disturb us once the patio door was closed, but I can see where it can be a nuisance for some, especially if a big party was partying there. Also, the curtains for the patio are not thick enough to prevent the morning light from entering. So, if you’re light sensitive in terms of your sleep this may be an issue for you. Please note, there is construction going on upstairs or renovation. Please make sure you are not located near it as it starts early morning or ask if it is finished before you stay there. Even though we could hear it, we were not directly near it. This is a big hotel so there are many options for rooms, meaning the construction renovation noise may only be a minor nuisance, as it was for us. On the positive side, the hotel needs renovation so this is a good thing.

The room rate is P1350 for a standard room with one big bed. This includes a refrigerator and breakfast is included in the price, but the breakfast was borderline atrocious. We got to the restaurant at 9 am (ends at 10) and there was almost no food. The following day there was no buffet style but we were allowed to order from a limited breakfast menu. This was a bit better, but I would prefer a lower room rate and fend for breakfast ourselves. Sleeping late may be preferred rather than trying to get to the breakfast at this hotel. The park view from the restaurant first thing in the morning is nice.

Overall, it’s an okay place to stay with very friendly and well trained staff in terms of greeting guests and trying to meet requested needs etc. We would stay there again

I've stayed here twice and my experience is very different to the last post. I've found this hotel to be good value for money (about P2000 per night), clean rooms, balcony overlooking the street, big rooms, quiet, clean - very clean, and friendly & helpful staff. Price includes free wi-fi for internet access. It's right across the road from GenSan park and close to shopping and restaurants.

On the downside, breakfast is included in the rate but isn't very good if you're used to a Western Diet. Coffee is terrible too. The hotel is getting old and could probably do with some cosmetic renovations.

Overall, a good hotel and I'd stay there again.

This so called hotel is unclean smelled fusty and was full of cockroaches. The staff were the usual polite people you find in every hotel in the Philippines. I concluded my work there in one day and got out of there as soon as I could. never ever again.

Bad to average room quality, though staff were friendly. Location is average. They offer average sized bed with torn bedsheets and hard pillows. When i woke up i had insect bites all over my face and arms. Crowded comfort room. Breakfast was buffet type but NOT SO GOOD FOR CONSUMPTION. It's unhealthy and unpleasant to look at. Menu was overdone eggs soaked in oil, over fried flimsy chicken (were almost bones). I also ordered hot chocolate drink but it wasn't even close to average. I wish I bought instant chocolate drink mix instead. I won't be going back. EVER! Even the elevator lift was crowded. I think it's overpriced, old and unsanitized.

It was really a very relaxing accommodation I had at Sydney. It is just across the plaza and you can walk and have some fresh air there. I had my dinner at the roof top and had observed the night life up there. You can eat at the nearby restaurants. The hotel is accessible to all kinds of transportation. Banks are nearby.
My room was good and wide enough for single occupancy. Aircon was working properly and the room's ambiance was homey. I could do my blogs easily even if they were lengthy enough. The food at the roof top was expensive so I did not eat there again. I changed my preference to eat at the restaurants outside. The staff were very accommodating and friendly.

Don't be fooled by the external clean appearance of this hotel, the rooms probably didn't undergo a refreshing since the 70's.
I stopped at this hotel by chance arriving late in GenSan. My first impression of the lobby was good enough to ask for a quotation. I asked for the executive room (1995 PHP) suspecting the standard rooms were a little bit uncomfortable. Never made a bigger mistake! The air conditioning is directly blowing on the bed so much that I had to close it by night and sleep with 28°. The room is definitively dirty with a moquette full of yellow somethings as well as the several holes in the stinking materass. The electicity stops quite often and the wi-fi is mysteriously disappearing after few seconds of use just to unexpectedly come back when you don't need it. The bathroom is large but no hot water (yes just cold water!). Moreover the flush of the toilette doesnt work properly so you have to use a pan to put water and hopefully get it clean from you pee or....
No shower in the executive room but an ample bath. Unfortunately without the plug (so no way to wash). If this is the executive room, I don't dare to imagine the standard rooms.
Little suggestion: spend 30% more and go to Microhotel as I did the morning after and get 200% better service.

The Sidney is a great place to stay if you want to be at the center of town. Great view from the 6th floor walkway, views from the room balconies are very nice as well. It's an older hotel, but I find the architecture very pleasing, quaint if you will. It's clean, quiet and well kept. The staff is great. Food at the second floor restaurant is average, but the 6th floor grill is outstanding and should be on your list of places to eat even if you don't stay at the hotel.
