We stayed in Malasag Village for 2 nights and found it very relaxing and rejuvenating. PROS: friendly and helpful staff, wonderful flora and fauna, clean pool, delicious food, affordable price, mini zoo and souvenirs handmade by the locals. CONS: The village is on a steep hill, so walking up and down can be quite exhausting; no phone in rooms, so you have to walk up the hill to front desk; being in the middle of a forest means the fauna can be quite disturbing at times - you might wake up to the sight of a few cockroaches or lizards in your room, and will be constantly attacked by mosquitoes outside and inside (no mosquito nets). But overall the experience of merging with nature overcomes the disadvantages and we had a pleasant and relaxing stay, away from city noises and touristic attractions. If you are just looking for a place to stay and you are planning to visit the city, I do not recommend this location, since it is far from...everything. However, if you seek a place to rest and calm your senses, this is a wonderful location.

Place was a bit far if ur going by public transpo but otherwise, the ambiance made up for it

We stayed in a deluxe room and the extra 300php or so was worth it compared to a superior room because the view was better( situate on 1st floor so u can see the horizon better)

bed quality was okay, bathroom was basic but big and kids liked the terrace
pool was also good and water was lukewarm even though it was raining
Only negative comment was the "mini zoo", too many mosquitoes

This resort is quite a ways out of town, but that’s part of the charm. It is quiet, pretty and relaxing But transportation is an issue. The admin office will call a taxi that takes about half an hour and costs 300 Pesos (very reasonable) We hired a private car at the ferry terminal for 600 P since no taxis were available. One can take a jeepney and then a habal-habal motorbike up the hill if you’re brave, clever and on a tight budget. They don’t seem to have a website (someone else has hijacked the name) and the landline listed on Google is no longer in service. They have a cell phone, but the number doesn’t appear online. It is 09178968873 or 09176774643. Reso’s can be made through Agoda.
This is the second time I’ve stayed at The Gardens of Malasag, the first time was 5 years ago. Little has changed (fortunately) except the four very sweet original cottages built of native material have been torn down and are being replaced with some nice new concrete cottages. They look almost complete as of Aug. 2016 and I imagine they will be in service soon. There are four two-story cottages, providing eight rooms in service at this time. The upper level units are Deluxe and slightly more expensive than the Superior units downstairs, but both have decks and views. They also have dormitory rooms and Family rooms for groups as well as large function rooms. The cottages are clean and well equipped with refrigerator, plenty of closet space and a great deck, or terrace, for enjoying the view. A tiny flat screen TV had one channel (GMA). Unfortunately the view from the unit we were staying in, Vanda-A, was largely blocked by some minor branches of a couple mahogany trees. It would be so easy to trim them and enhance the sweeping view of the bay, one of those annoying but important little details so many resorts seem to miss.
The gardens are pleasant but not spectacular, there is a nice looking pool but it was closed for maintenance. The hanging bridge was back in service (closed last trip) but the aluminium angle bars used for steps were too intimidating for me. There are a couple large birds, including the rare Philippine Eagle, in an aviary, a very grumpy Civet cat in a small cage and some monkeys in a tragically barren small cage for your viewing displeasure (this is Eco-tourism?). Many trails and steps wind throughout the ‘gardens’ and adjacent forest, so taking a little walk is a good pastime. It was remarkably quiet, I don’t remember seeing a single dog and only a few chickens.
Many of the staff are tribal people that double between caretaking jobs and providing a cultural show in the late afternoon. The dance/music show was outdoors and shortened a bit by a rain shower, but interesting. There are two gift shops, one is a souvenir shop of the tribal folks and another is a LUMAD brand tee shirt and coffee mug store. They had some nice tee shirts, as long as you’re Filipino size (nothing above an undersized XL was available).
The restaurant has a great view and the food was quite adequate in general, though the waiters were obviously new to the concept of a restaurant. However when I ordered a chicken sandwich (not generally a challenging order) I got a sandwich with one piece of lettuce, two slices of tomato and cucumber, great gobs of mayonnaise and no chicken. Actually I discovered some tiny pieces of chicken that were so small they literally fit on the tip of my toothpick. I sent it back and asked for some chicken in my chicken sandwich. After about 15 minutes I went back into the kitchen (the waiter had disappeared) and found they were cooking some chicken to use. OMG, just give me the sandwich back. The free breakfast was good, mine came with bacon and my friend’s with bangus (fish). For dinner, we had garden salad, chicken curry and rice, all were fine. It’s good that the restaurant is adequate because there are no other options for eating up there.
I would recommend this resort if you don’t need to be going around in the city much and want a peaceful place to hang out for a couple days. The Mapawa Nature Park is about 1.5 km farther up the hill, but we couldn’t figure transportation and too long an uphill walk for this old guy. But I’m sure that would add another interesting side trip to a stay at Gardens of Malasag.

It can't be reached easily unless since it is located in a steep hill but if you enjoy a place away from the crowd and a relaxing 'natural' environment, this is the place. Peace and quiet. A very good couple's getaway place.

Rooms are perched at the side of the hill and it has it's own balcony where the two of you can have your private dinner. The room is made of bamboo and spacious.

Food is great and prices are reasonable. Downside is that you have to ask for the staff to get you a cab for you to go to a nearby store.

Stayed here for two nights. Loved it. If you don't like walking, this probably isn't for you. There are attractions around the Villa. I just wish that the government agency in charge would spend in maintaining this beautiful place.

Staff are friendly and food is really good and affordable. Loved my room with a view.
