Every year, my wife and I have to visit Cagayan de Oro to take care of Medical Appointments that I have. This past year was no different, and we made our appointment with the VIP Hotel via email as we usually do. NOTE: One of the best things to keep in mind, as a foreigner, is that when you use your Credit Card from wherever you originated from (with us, it's the U.S.), you can be charged International Charge Card fees. To keep this from happening, when contacting the hotel of your choice, see if the hotel will accept cash at time of "check-in" or, make a deposit at whatever bank that they might be affiliated with and then pay the rest of the fees at time of check-in. Most Philippine Banks will accept this method of payment, and it's easier on the "pocketbook" too.

We've been using the VIP Hotel ever since 2008 and this time was no different as far as setting up our overnight arrangements. Upon arriving at the VIP Hotel, we did have trouble finding an adequate parking space as this hotel has no parking lot and thus, you have to find a parking space somewhere on the street where the hotel is located. Upon check-in, we were still treated courteously and professionally, however, once we were taken up to our rooms, we also noticed that the rooms appeared to be a little more worn down than in previous years. Additionally, when we went down for our complementary breakfast the following morning, the food wasn't as plentiful as it was during our previous stays, but, still good.

If you are looking for a low budget type of hotel to stay in to save money, the VIP Hotel is for you. However, if you are looking for something better and nicer, there are more plentiful hotels in the Cagayan de Oro area.

Room furnishings are circa early 90's but overall, I would not say I had a bad experience. Staff are helpful, breakfast is crappy, location was great. I had a minor injury (not from the hotel) and it was great that there was a hospital nearby. I had to request for a bath mat though and I found it weird they didnt have one. I was told by the room boy "not all rooms have a bath mat" Seriously?!?

The front desk staff, room service staff and maids were very pleasant and helpful. The room on the other hand was very small and the street noise was terrible . Did have some uninvited visitors at bedtime in the form of cockroaches, but they were, all in all, well behaved...Restaurant was very good, albeit pricey...Basically overpriced hotel in my humble opinion.

I landed in Davao International airport. Traveled all the way from Davao to Cagayan de Oro by bus which was a long and enjoyable sight seeing trip with my sister and niece. The nine hours travel by bus was physically tiring. When we got to the hotel, the receptionist did not attend to us right away as we looked so ordinary, which annoyed me. Even told me I was not booked when I booked it 5 months beforehand.

After paying, we went into the room and I was totally disappointed as the room was dirty and has not been cleaned. The bathroom had some droppings on the side and the cleanliness was not up to any hotel standard. I promised I will not come back to this hotel as it is expensive and it's not worth the money your paying. The air conditioner is noisy, loud and not too cold.

Looking back when I was younger I used to dream of staying in this hotel but when I went there -I was disappointed. To have such a hotel named as VIP meaning Very Important Person - to which, I was not treated like one for the price I paid for.

Food - with same menu every other day. Juices with after taste even you inform them, they just ignore it. And worse, they don't bother to replace your drinks.

Room service - poor. Bedsheet cover to be replaced upon check-out by the guest. How about for those who stay for a week? Do it means the guess will bear that bedsheet until he/she leave?

To think the VIP Hotel is rated as 3 stars hotel but they service is just like 1. Not a good hotel to recommend!

was always a number one destination and the best place to stay? where else? VIP !
great breakfast choices so you don't get bored with the menu at all. The rooms always tidy and neat. And the concierge was just too helpful. Airport pickup and to check out was prompt. Generally, the staff are courteous. Kudos!^^

Let me make it clear that I am not picky when it comes to beds. I have even slept on airport floors!

My only problem with this hotel is that their bed and pillows were uncomfortable -- I was unable to sleep well, and I had back and neck pains when I woke up. I thought it was just me, but my cousin also had the same complaint.

Bed smells cigar
Room 406 is adjacent to a function room which noise penetrate the walls
Guests in other rooms left their doors open, so the noises they generate reverberates around the corridors and penetrates neighboring room walls
Room facilities from ref, TV, to bath tub are dilapidated

Room size however is large and spacious
