Balai Tinay was the perfect guesthouse!
Located right in the heart of Legaspi City Albay - it very accessible and easy to get to.

The guesthouse itself is spotless - unbelievably clean and well maintained along with absolutely stunning. The rooms are quite, clean and comfortable. The common areas are also stunning with a rooftop that has an amazing view of Mt Mayon!

The staff are very friendly, super helpful and made our stay very comfortable.

Highly recommend!

Staying at Balay Tinay is literally like having a refuge. We went to Legaspi in the most inopportune time because for straight 3 days, it was rainy and the wind was strong. I'm a local and fairly know where to go but with such a weather, staying at Balay Tinay made it so comfortable. I like the fact that the living room is so spacious, cozy and open-air so it was a great alternative to being out and about. My husband and I used the guesthouse as our resting place in between sightseeing. The breakfast Tito Joe and Tita V served were just fantastic! The room which we stayed at is so comfortable and we slept really well too! The inn is also very accessible - 10 min drive from airport and a few mins jeepney taxi ride to the city :) Tito Joe is a great story teller and can give lots of tips on how to enjoy the city. Definitely recommend Balay Tinay!

I arrived at Legaspi around 6 in the morning from a long land trip from Manila,, being aware that check in time is at noon,, I tried my luck... Called Balai Tinay,, Joe ,, the owner picked up the phone and happily informed me that I can come on anytime for my room was waiting,, upon arrival I found out Joe was a nice warm guy offered coffee and showed me the property,, gave me some tips on how to get around the city and where to go,, the room is favorably clean and cool with hot and cold shower,, quiet place,,and a good view of mt mayon from the second floor ,, I had a good chat with her pretty wife too and she accompanied me to the best place of the house ,, the veranda at 6:30 in the morning ,, with mt mayon peeking beautifully,, yes if ever I get another chance ,, ill see you balai Tinay ,,,,

Despite of the previous positive reviews, I have to however recommend against this hotel.

Upon arrival, the owner did have an excellent manner as mentioned in the reviews.
But sadly, that will be the end of the positive aspect of this hotel.

We, a party of 6, had booked 3 rooms. Instead, when we checked in, they gave us 2 rooms (a double room and a room for 5). We weren't happy with the arrangement and the owner agreed he would provide us 3 rooms that evening once some clients checked out.

We came back after dinner and the owner had broken his promise and had actually left the hotel, unwilling to deal with us. We contacted him by phone and his manner was rude! He threatened that we could choose to leave the hotel and we could call the police. We also discovered that he had lied to us that the room with terrace we initially booked did exist but had been rented to other clients.

We in the end booked ourselves another hotel nearby. I would therefore advise you NOT TO stay in this hotel unless you want the mess of not getting the room you reserved, being lied to/ yelled at and finding yourself another hotel at the last minute.

We stayed at Balay Tinay for a total of 4 nights for 950 peso per night and got the best possible value for money. We have been traveling around Asia for over 4 months and this was without a doubt one of top 3 places we have stayed at so far!

The first three nights we stayed in the double room in the lefthand corner. It was lovely. Good mattress and pillows, squeaky clean, spacious, big mirror, big bathroom with hot shower with good water pressure, nicely decorated, just great. We arrived late at night by bus from Manila and this was not any problem, we were welcomed warmly by the owner Joe and David, one of the staff, with a cup of tea. They made us feel at home immediately.

They let us use their kitchen in the morning to cook our oats for breakfast and free coffee, tea (good quality tea: Celestial!) and water were available at any time. The place has a big common living room with a small pond, an aquarium, free wifi and has a very homely feel to it. It was always spotlessly clean. Joe and David were always around to have a chat and help us with whatever we needed. Joe gave us a lot of good tips about transport and places to eat. He even booked our bus tickets back to Manila for us and made sure we would be OK.

We went to Bulusan for one night and could leave the luggage we did not need at the guesthouse. When we came back the next day "our old room" unfortunately was taken by another guest, probably due to some misunderstanding, but we got another room instead. The first room on the lefthand side, which was a twin. Although it was not as lovely as the other one (water pressure very low, no double bed, strange lay-out with the bathroom outside the room), it was still very good value, so we did not bother commenting on the mistake.

The last day they even served us breakfast with fresh breads, fruits, eggs and chocolate cake for free! Since we had to take the night bus to Manila at 6:30PM they let us stay in our room for the whole last day, free of charge. Such amazing hospitality.

Balay Tinay is located in Albay district, which is a little further outside the main centre of Legaspi, but it has a quiet location and you can walk to the main road in 5 min. to catch a trike or jeepney into town or to Daraga. There are a few nice places around to eat (Ysabelles, Small Talk) and two supermarkets.

Overall we had a wonderful time at Balay Tinay, thanks to the great service of Joe and David and the other staff. Thank you very much, we will miss this place and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a home away from home!

Great Family attic room. Homey ambience. Nearby airport. Peaceful lication yet only a short walk to the okd albay where cafes, restaurants, groceries and main Rizal St is located. Warm and cozy ambience at shared lounge or sala where you can meet and socialize with other guests. Relaxing sound of the water in the lounge is quite nice.

Our stay in this simple but nice & clean guesthouse is a memorable one. The moment we alighted from the taxi, Jerson is already at the gate to welcome & assist us. He is very helpful, friendly & accommodating. After leading us to our room, he volunteered to order for our food since they don’t have a restaurant where guests can have dinner.

It’s like living in a big house with many rooms. The lobby of the guesthouse functions as a living room at the same time. There is also free wi-fi at the lobby and one will love the relaxing & soothing sound of the flowing water at the lobby.

The breakfast is great and you can have coffee, Milo or tea any time of the day.

Rooms are nice, cozy and clean.

A 5-minute walk will bring you to a grocery store where you can buy almost anything you need.

No wonder, guests who had previously stayed in Balai Tinay say nothing but praises. To the future budget-conscious guests, have a nice stay!

Nothing to complain! The guesthouse it's very charming. The owner is very helpful with every question (dry our wet clothes, organize excursion to the volcano, and so on...). We had to spend the afternoon at the guesthouse waiting for our flight and we could hang out on the couches and drink free coffee and tee. An home away from home. Thank you again!
