In the Bicolano language, "Balay" means house, and we strive to be just that, your home away from home but with the backyard view of Mayon Volcano, to add a bit of spice to it. Balay de la Rama is a six-room family house, with six spacious rooms available for short-term homestay. Like any provincial home, it has big windows to promote natural ventilation, and indeed, the gentle, or sometimes stalwart breezes are enough to lull you to sleep as you take your afternoon siesta by the wooden sofa, or better yet, on the hammock by the balcony. If by any chance it is summer, and the mango tree is in full bloom, you can spend afternoons picking mango, or if that is too much effort, you can wait for them to fall, so you can eat them with hot bagoong (shrimp paste). If you’d rather read than be hit by falling mangoes, then the owner’s personal collections are free for you to browse. Come dinnertime, you can join the family meal to sample that spicy Bicolano cooking, such as "pinangat," or "ginantaang gulay," or you can request for that poor man’s fare, such as tinapa (smoked fish) or "tuyo" (salted fish), if you suddenly crave for them. We won't force you to eat "balut" (fertilized duck egg), but would love to see your priceless expression as you try. If you came to Bicol to see moody, fiery Mayon, all you need to do is cast a sideways glance by the window, and there it is. But we know you may want to swim with the whale sharks in Donsol, wakeboard in CWC or island-hop in Caramoan, then this is a great jump-off point with easy access to all kinds of transport to your destination. The land at which Balay de la Rama stands has been with the dela Rama family for more than a century. While Balay itself isn't ancient, the warm family spirit and hospitality is. Your Bicolana host is herself an avid backpacker, but knows that indeed, there is no place like home.

Stayed in Balay dela Rama last June 11-13, we came from a bicol series trip and Legazpi is our last stop. Our original plan is to do the ATV adventure and to see Mt. Mayon. But Kuya Jess, offered us a deal on an Albay tour, with a side trip to the ATV Adventure we want. Medyo naghesitate ako kasi feeling ko masisira yung plan namin(and added budget sya). But true enough, we enjoyed the tour! Thanks to Kuya Bunny and Kuya Rey, our tour driver, in law ni Kuya Jess. Hehe, Kuya Rey drove us to the airport in his car paying only the gas consumed HIhi. THANK YOU! :)

Our room was BIG! Like really big! With cabinets and side table with mirror and huge window pane facing the garage. Hehehe. But I was impressed that it wasn't noisy at all. :) It has its own TV which is a plus. Yung unang room na binigay samin, walang TV, good thing nagkamali lang kasi me nakacheckin na doon. Hehehe.

I was disappointed with the bathroom though, no issue on its size or water supply. Its a shared bathroom(2rooms lang but still shared). :( Its not specified in booking.com that the bathroom for Standard Room is shared, its ensuite as indicated there. Yes ensuite but shared by 2 adjacent rooms. Only the host's wife informed us that its the Deluxe Room with its own bathroom . I'm not picky with rooms and stuff, but I want privacy on bathrooms. There's an instance pa, that the guest on the other room whom we are sharing the CR stayed in there for more than an hour. :( Please indicate that its a shared CR, so people won't be surprised.

Breakfast is delish! First breakfast namin napa-extra rice ako, I'm a big breakfast eater and I was a bit sad that the rice cup is small (below standard size). :(

The staff are all friendly, and very accommodating. We requested some utensils to use since we bought dinner outside and brought it in to eat. They assisted us and gave us cold water to drink too. :)

Location is great, near the airport, Cagsawa and Lignon Hills.

Overall, its still a great stay. And I'm still thankful that we grabbed the tour offer as its sulit and fun! Thanks Balay!

From the 1st time I called the owner, he was very accomodating. Balay de la Rama was my only option since all the hotels in Legazpi were fully booked because of the convention. So i told myself that I will not be very choosy. When my hubby and I got to the gate, I really wasnt expecting anything grand but we were impressed by the rooms, the common area, bathroom and A/C. Plus a good view of Mt. Mayon from the balcony. We were personally entertained by the owner and all our requests were granted. I will definitely come back to this place. We loved it.

This is a sad story about "GREED". We are from Seattle, Washington and we stayed in this place from November 23 to 25, 2013. We were originally booked from November 22 to 24. The story began with Cebu Pacific cancelling our flight ( Cebu to Legaspi ) for November 22 to give way to aircrafts from other countries "BRINGING RELIEF GOODS" to the victims of Typhoon YOLANDA ( HAIYAN ) in Tacloban. Cebu is the base for all relief efforts at that time, and their airport is very busy and cancellations are expected. I directly contacted Balay dela Rama and I spoke with "JESUS", the owner. I discussed with him about what's going on, he checked and found out that we booked 2 rooms ( 4 adults, 2 children) for $22.56 ( approx. 982 pesos) per room via Expedia. He did not entertain us but rather advised us to call Expedia directly. Ok, I did what he said and have to pay international fee for the Expedia 1-800-number. Expedia was very nice and supportive and called me back to prevent further international charges. After Expedia knew about the situation, they contacted Balay dela Rama to consider adjusting the days of our stay because of the cuurent situation in Tacloban and Cebu. It took Expedia at least 45 minutes to discuss and ask the owner to consider. NO DICE!!! The owner "JESUS" told Expedia that if we cannot get there as booked he will charge us 22.56 x 2 rooms.... Are you kidding me?! The flight was cancelled and moved the next day, and there's NO WAY we can get there!!! Of course I disputed it with Expedia and reminded them that this is not intended, but rather an emergency situation. I even asked the representative from Expedia if she told "JESUS" about the situation. You can tell, even the representative is upset because of the responses that she got from the owner. "JESUS" he said that Legaspi is far from the disaster area and no considerations will be made" ( FYI : every conversation is recorded in Expedia, any reader can always verify ).... MEAN and GREEDY!!!right? After some discussions with Expedia the Manager decided to handle my one day loss. In simple math, "JESUS" gained 132 bucks for a 2-day stay. Tsk!Tsk!Tsk! GREEEEDY!!! This owner don't care if people are dying as long as he gets his MONEY.... I promised myself that this owner will not get another single penny from my pocket. Touchdown!!! We safely arrived in Legaspi Airport, WOW!!! This is the so called " Volcano with the Perfect Cone"... Furthermore "JESUS" is now on my Redflag list, but nevertheless I still gave him the benefit of the doubt since I haven't met him in person yet. So we checked in and he remembered me talking to him over the phone. We were six in the family x 2 rooms. I can't believe that he tried to charge us extra $4 (150 pesos) each of my two sons because according to him the room is only for two. Thanks to "Internet", I was able to show him that as per Expedia's description Balay dela Rama can accomodate children for free (9 years old and below) using the existing bed. And my 2 sons are 8 and 3 y/o. Just like what I said this man will not get any penny from my pocket. He offerred us ATV experience, city tour and Albay tour. ATV @ 1850 pesos per person. City tour at 3500. Now it is confirmed this guy is GREEDY. Well to be fair, he is in the business world, so he can charge more than the standard price if he wants to. But these are his prices for his ATV and City Tour. By the way if you try and compare this prices outside, ATV is only 1500 pesos per person. City tour is only 2000 - 2500 pesos... But still the decision will depend on the traveler. It's their choice. I'm just giving some tips to save some money. In general the rooms are fair with AC, the down side is their shower, it turns off while taking a shower. Cleanliness is very good, courtesy of their helpers. Breakfast is fine depending on personal taste/preference. Location is by the main road and you can have access to tricycles and jeepneys. Hey! please don't expect too much because this place is a B&B, not a hotel. There are restaurants close to the place such as Biggs Diner and Sibid-Sibid ( I recommend this restaurant - delicious!!!). Anyway, since the owner knew that he cannot milk from us DISCRIMINATION sets in. He don't even say good morning or good evening to us, he will just walk away with a frown on his face... RUDE right? I think he forgot that our room and their services are paid, and without their customers they have no business. On our last day, we met this German couple who checked in a day behind us. Ok here's the deal, at breakfast time "JESUS" with all smiles knocked on the couple's room to let them know that breakfast is served.... What about us?! We are your guest too. Can't you knock and call us? So, we just let it go. We went down to the breakfast area, believe me you should see the reaction on "JESUS" face, the smile is gone when he saw us and walked in to his room and never came back... DISCRIMINATION? It's up to you to judge. I commend the helpers for keeping the place clean and nice, in fact I gave them a decent tip because they deserve it... Lastly, to all the readers please bear in mind that it's nice to sleep in a place where there is respect, treat you with dignity and equality.

I'll be honest. I only booked a room at Balay de la Rama because I want to be greeted by Mt. Mayon when I wake up in the morning. I just wanted to chill' out in the balcony and stare out and admire Mount Mayon's beauty before I go out on our tour. That's how I relax. I specifically asked for the room with balcony and I reserved that room 2 months in advance. Every time I contacted the owner through cellphone text messages, I reminded him of my room with balcony reservation and he would assure me that it was reserved for us. However, when we arrived Bicol, the room was not available and the owner informed us just a day before our stay and it was when I sent him a text message and reminded him of our balcony room reservation. I was so ready to cancel my booking unfortunately I can't because I already paid for it and in Agoda's terms and conditions it says: "Any cancellation received within 7 day/s prior to arrival will incur the first 1 night/s charge". So disappointing. The lovely ambiance and huge, clean room could not compensate for my disappointment. We should have just booked a room in Legazpi which is nearer to everything we needed.

Another thing that I did not like about Balay de la Rama is their bathroom. They may have huge rooms but they have small bathrooms. And when I went for a shower after our Mayon trek, water got cut off for a good 15 minutes and they didn't inform us before hand. And so, I waited in the bathroom for 15 minutes because I was already covered with soap.

Everything else was good tho, other than my room reservation issue, bathroom & water problems, and hotel location.

Hi thanks for your review. We still believe that this review is unfair and is not totally reflecting your stay in Balay de la Rama. As stated in Agoda we are offering 2 kind of rooms, deluxe and standard plus. We always informed you since you booked with us that the availability of the room was based of the first arrived, first served. This is our policy in Balay de la Rama to make sure that any of our guest could enjoy the view of Mount Mayon. I would also remind you that we do have a huge lounge area on the 3rd floor accessible to all our guests to rest and to enjoy the view. For the bathroom, none of our guests ever complain about the size of the bathroom. As you seem to be a demanding person, we may advise you to spend a bit more for your accommodation to fully enjoy your future holidays. To conclude, we love to receive reviews from our guests which helps us improving our services. Listen to our guests made us the best bed & breakfast in Legazpi.

Was there last March 9 - 12, got a deal at agoda.com. For what we paid we definitely got value for our money. Cable TV, hot and cold shower, strong WiFi, breakfast and its near the places you want to go to. Needed some needs, Jess and Jane went out of their way to get it for me. Definitely recommending the place. Tell the trike its in Banyag (if i remembered it right). The sign post is a bit hard too look for.. A huge mango tree is your sign from the road.

*Location and rooms
Conveniently located near the major tourist destinations of the city. The rooms were classic and spacious, the interior will make you feel at home. Toiletries like shampoo, hand wash and body wash were provided, equipped with cabled TV and Wife. Also, a view of Mayon Volcano at the balcony. The owner, Ms. Caren was very accommodating and kind.

*Food
There's a breakfast so there's no need to worry of what to eat every morning. It was a delicious meal with paired with fresh fruits. Choices were the typical breakfast, (Tocino, Longganisa, Corned Beef, Hotdog). You will decide to drink coffee, tea or choco. Garden view can also be seen from the dining area.

Parking is only limited to two (2) vehicles. [in case you're planning to bring]. I informed them that I will bring one to make sure for a garage spot. 😊

The overall experience was satisfying. 👍🏻You'll get more than what you've paid for.

Rooms for improvement:
- water pressure of shower. - maybe during peak hours only.
- temperature of ac from our other room

The good
1. Perfect location, right in the middle of the junction, and very near the airport, Daraga church and cagsawa ruins. Easy to commute
2. Has a view of Mt. Mayon on the 2nd floor (but I think the neighbors tree need some trimming, its kind of starting the block the view of the base of mayon which hinders photographers to take a picture of its perfect triangle shape)
3. Breakfast is delicious!
4. Free Wifi!
5. Service is best and very accommodating.
6. Rooms are clean, no mosquito ! yipee !

Suggestions
I think the blankets are very thin. And maybe add 2 more pillows per room for a more comfortable sleep (total of 4 pillow per room).

We visited legazpi just this weekend and before we went there i researched for a place to accommodate us during our 2d1n stay.
Im a fan of tripadvisor so most of the time i consulted it to give me clue of the place/hotel that will fit my budget and needs...
It was a good choice to choose Balay.
The place is so homey yet classy. The french manager is so accommodating. The bfast was good with unli-rice.
If you're luckly enough, u can view the perfect-cone mayon on not-shy mood..
Best place, near most of the tourist spots in legazpi.
I'l probably return to balay on my next trip to legazpi.
