There are a few negatives too. Like there's NO elevator. For youngsters it's a good exercise to go up and down using the stairs, but for oldies it's a torture especially when your room is at the 3rd floor. Wifi is free but the signal barely reach 3rd floor. So in order to access wifi, one needs to go down which is another minus point on their part.
I must tell you that I am not at all difficult to please, and I can easily adapt to any environment. However, the minute I walked inside the room, my allergic rhinitis started acting up and never let up until the end of my stay. This is due to the dust in the very unkept room.
The curtain is wet with moisture from the outside, with broken windows kept secure only with rusty wires.
The bedspread has stains on it, and the bed itself has broken springs that ensure that you will never get a good night's sleep.
The towel they provided me was colored red, and looked very very worn out with fringed ends. (good thing I always bring my own towel).
The bathroom was old and dilapidated. The glass window was broken so anyone who can manage to get outside the third floor will be able to see you. The worst was that the water coming out of every faucet was brown and murky and smelled rotten. Needless to say, I brushed my teeth without using any water that night.
To make matters worse (as if it's still possible), when I went back to my room that night, one side of the room was flooded. I lay down in a corner of the bed, not being able to sleep due to the repairs being done to the electricity room beside mine which was also flooded. I feared all night that a fire might break out and I have no way to escape.
I always try to look at the brighter side of things. However, the only thing I can come up with is that you can see the Mayon Volcano from the window. Which I believe, is true for every other hotel in Legazpi. So, not an advantage after all.
I don't think I will ever experience another hotel stay as bad as this. Please stay as far away as you can.
could use a few repairs. But it has some grandeur, great location & obliging staff (whose English
may get vague when confronted by fault finding guests).
The Magayon is over the road from a large barrio & next door to a disused railway station which
may explain the rat sightings. But rats are ever present in all Filipino cities. Don't travel
believing you're on the Yellow Brick Road.
The area is safe and close to central in a city of fantastic streetlife from sunset on. Sit in the
townsquare and watch.
For patrons in a $6 room with no outside window, try a room upgrade for a few dollars more.
My experience has been that low end rooms are compact & everyday, but reasonably
maintained ... so is shabby the way to describe them or should we say: 'plain?' The bathrooms
at the end of the corridor aren't flash but if being clean & fresh is your personal endeavour, the
water supply is acceptable. Function before form.
Never have I left this hotel without my customer experience being happy. but I try to appreciate
value for money & engage with a staff team attempting to provide a reasonable service from
what must be a modest income source.
To future guests I say take the time to look at several rooms if necessary. Patience &
friendliness will ensure you get what you're after.
We will never stay there again.
Friendly and helpful staff, would stay here again, wonderful place to eat a just around the corner Whackys is well worth a visit, good menu and tasty inexpensive food,
It is old, run down and basic, but has free wifi on each level near the stairs and somewhere to sit while you use the wifi.
