We arrived late already and will just stay for the night. The place has a view of the Mayon Volcano. Beds are big and they have free breakfast :) It is an average place for backpackers since you will just stay for a while.

The smell of septic tank can be smelled from anywhere in the hotel. One night, they cleaned it out, but the next time somebody flushed the toilet, the smell came back. I also saw a tarantula one morning climbing up the wall. However, the room was relatively large.

My brother, mom-in-law and I occupied a room in this hotel for 3 days and 2 nights. The room was clean and cheap. There was free breakfast. The location of the hotel is accessible because from there you could easily go from place to place since it's in the heart of Legazpi City.

There are a few negatives too. Like there's NO elevator. For youngsters it's a good exercise to go up and down using the stairs, but for oldies it's a torture especially when your room is at the 3rd floor. Wifi is free but the signal barely reach 3rd floor. So in order to access wifi, one needs to go down which is another minus point on their part.

Gone backpacking with my son to explore bicol. Plan was to stay two days in Legaspi then head off to Caramoan... 10 yr son refused to sleep at this hotel for another night.. calling it shabby hotel. there were mice running around our room, tv doesnt work well, noisy ACU. I was shocked to see mice droopings on the sheets... will not recommend this hotel to a friend.

I don't normally write reviews for the hotels I stay in, but this 'hotel' is an exception. This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Everything seemed to go wrong even from the beginning.
I must tell you that I am not at all difficult to please, and I can easily adapt to any environment. However, the minute I walked inside the room, my allergic rhinitis started acting up and never let up until the end of my stay. This is due to the dust in the very unkept room.
The curtain is wet with moisture from the outside, with broken windows kept secure only with rusty wires.
The bedspread has stains on it, and the bed itself has broken springs that ensure that you will never get a good night's sleep.
The towel they provided me was colored red, and looked very very worn out with fringed ends. (good thing I always bring my own towel).
The bathroom was old and dilapidated. The glass window was broken so anyone who can manage to get outside the third floor will be able to see you. The worst was that the water coming out of every faucet was brown and murky and smelled rotten. Needless to say, I brushed my teeth without using any water that night.
To make matters worse (as if it's still possible), when I went back to my room that night, one side of the room was flooded. I lay down in a corner of the bed, not being able to sleep due to the repairs being done to the electricity room beside mine which was also flooded. I feared all night that a fire might break out and I have no way to escape.

I always try to look at the brighter side of things. However, the only thing I can come up with is that you can see the Mayon Volcano from the window. Which I believe, is true for every other hotel in Legazpi. So, not an advantage after all.

I don't think I will ever experience another hotel stay as bad as this. Please stay as far away as you can.

As one who has stayed at The Magayon in '09 & '11, let me confirm the building is old, spartan &
could use a few repairs. But it has some grandeur, great location & obliging staff (whose English
may get vague when confronted by fault finding guests).

The Magayon is over the road from a large barrio & next door to a disused railway station which
may explain the rat sightings. But rats are ever present in all Filipino cities. Don't travel
believing you're on the Yellow Brick Road.

The area is safe and close to central in a city of fantastic streetlife from sunset on. Sit in the
townsquare and watch.

For patrons in a $6 room with no outside window, try a room upgrade for a few dollars more.

My experience has been that low end rooms are compact & everyday, but reasonably
maintained ... so is shabby the way to describe them or should we say: 'plain?' The bathrooms
at the end of the corridor aren't flash but if being clean & fresh is your personal endeavour, the
water supply is acceptable. Function before form.

Never have I left this hotel without my customer experience being happy. but I try to appreciate
value for money & engage with a staff team attempting to provide a reasonable service from
what must be a modest income source.

To future guests I say take the time to look at several rooms if necessary. Patience &
friendliness will ensure you get what you're after.

The hotel is located right in the heart of the city so it is a good location. But, when we would go out on the 2 ft wide balcony we could see cat sized rats scury around the parking lot. The staff did not understand english well and it had a distinct odor of mildew. They could do much better.
We will never stay there again.

I usually don't write reviews but this place was shocking. I was travelling on my own and arrived early morning after a nightbus journey from manila. I picked the hotel because my Lonely Planet said that it is central, great value and clean. I picked the cheapest room so wasn't expecting much. The smell of mould in the room hit me as soon as we opened the door. The room only had a window to the inside of the corridor and I was told all but the expensive rooms have the same. i contemplated on whether I could stay for one night but the bathroom was shabby with loads of little flies and insects running around, the room was dusty, the bedshyeets dirty and just as i started unpacking my backpack i discovered a used condom on the floor. this was just too much! i looked at other rooms but then left and moved to the tourist inn which was more expensive but well kept. i was backpacking on a budget and can take a lot but that was just too much.

This is not a business hotel nor is it for romantic getaways, it is however a backpacker special. Fan room with common bath at 200p per night and air con for 300p. Even air con and bathroom is only 400p. They have std, deluxe, etc as well.
It is old, run down and basic, but has free wifi on each level near the stairs and somewhere to sit while you use the wifi.
