So we stayed in the superior suite with the niece and nephews (teens) on our El Nido trip. It was a cozy place, WiFi connection and free breakfast.

The WiFi is best used downstairs or when ur on the third floor having your breakfast. Oh and they only serve breakfast but you can still hang out upstairs, remove your footwear and have food or drinks you’ve bought.

Sonny was very helpful and accommodating with our needs and has smile all the time. We pronounced his name as “Sunnie” and it made him smile more.

Joaquinn was perfectly situated near the Coast Guard and about 3-5mins walk to the town, depending on how fast u walk and about 3mins away from the beach itself.

My hubby and I have stayed in a lot of hotels and B&Bs in Tagaytay and it's only now that I can truly say that we've found THE ONLY PLACE to stay at whenever we have our mini Tagaytay getaway. One word to describe our stay: PERFECT. From the friendly receptionist/front desk (who I believe is also the manager) to the super charming room (purple room with king bed and veranda) and fully equiped bathroom (with a bidet! yehey!) to the unobstructed view of Taal volcano and lake to parking space for our car to the hearty breakfast served in our room (you can eat either in bed or in the veranda) and all for a super reasonable price, we have no complaints whatsoever. We absolutely loved Joaquin's Bed and Breakfast and will definitely be back.

We decided to spend another night at Tagaytay after coming from a nearby Batangas resort. We rang up Joaquin's and they luckily had room for us. We got the room with a small garden (the extra money for this room is worth it). The staff was very helpful! They carried all our bags down the stairs and believe me, we carried a ton because we have two small kids. We had late afternoon lunch outside the garden as we enjoy the spectacular view!

We were craving for Crispy Pata and theirs' didn't disappoint. :-) The breakfast was sumptous as well. I had fish and eggs while the rest of the gang had tocino. Their chef was also very friendly. He gave me tips on buying beef in Batangas market (wink) The bed was also very nice and they provided an extra bed for our maid.

We lounged at the aviary upstairs and just enjoyed the view the whole morning.

This place tops my list on staff service! From the front desk to the other staff. It has a more personal touch compared to big hotels. I also like that you are away from the crowd and have your own quiet space at the small garden.

We were contented with this BnB. Went home with a big smile and will definitely come back and recommend to family and friends!

We are booked for two nights accom, suddenly we are asked to move out due to mistake in booking by the staff. Somebody else booked our room in our second night.so stupid of them to ask us to move out without any consideration that my lil girl is sleeping soundly. And so to makenthe situation worse,my girl vomited in the lobby and the stupid staffs didnt even help my husband. Very bad experience! Lesson learned, dont settle for cheap deals, even if the owner is my friend's bff. Cheap price comes cheap service.

Pros: The view – But to be honest, it wasn’t able to save it from all the cons.

Cons:
1. The flat pillows - Albeit being big, flat hotel pillows are unacceptable. I called the receptionist, and they provided me with mediocre ones saying that it’s the best they have at the moment.
2. The remote control – When I took it from the top drawer, the back of the remote fell off. Then, I had a hard time switching between channels. I asked assistance for this again. When the attendant arrived, she said: “baka po ginalaw niyo yung battery”.
3. The cable - It would intermittently turn off. Signal issues I assume. The channel options were so few; cheaper hotels had better channel options.
4. The heater - I had problems adjusting the heat. You only have two options; really hot or really cold. I went to the front desk to ask for assistance on this yet again, and I was told that I needed to "adjust" it as if I didn't know how to use one. Upon my insistence, the technician went to my room and checked it himself. I demonstrated how it can only go from really cold to really hot and nothing in between. He just replied that when it becomes cold, I need to turn it to the right and vice versa.
5. The welcome letter – It said “Dear Valued Guest…”. Well, I paid Php6,000 for the room, I’d assume that they have enough money to at least put my name on the letter and print.
6. NO WIFI
Stayed there on Valentines day.

Pros: The location was very good and accessible. All the rooms on my floor had a very good view of the lake. Had it not been for these two points I would give a one star overall review.

Cons: The place needs some refurbishing. The room lacked proper lighting and had an awful musty smell. Thank God for the electric fan in the room which somehow helped in flushing out the smell. A huge patch of black mold on the bathroom ceiling completely ruined the experience for me. The musty scent of the room and molds are good indicators of poor ventilation. FYI, molds can produce toxins that can attack the immune system, make people sick and even kill people! Lastly, the service for breakfast was extremely slow. I had to wait for 30 minutes for breakfast; so what if you have a group to attend to! Oh and the beef steak breakfast was more of a beef jerky with onions! It like chewing leather.

Customer service should be the same whether they're traveling by themselves or with a group! I was almost impressed with the taking of breakfast food orders the night before to speed up the process, but apparently that didn't help at all.

There are a lot of affordable places on the ridge and with far better service but unfortunately they were all booked. For the same amount I'd rather take my money to other b&b/ inns or even a proper hotel next time. This place is overrated!

We checked-in at 3pm after arriving from a 6.5-hr Mount Batulao hike on March 11, 2017. I approached the front desk and received no greetings from them, no hi, hello, good afternoon! I was the first to strike a coversation! We we're so thirsty upon arriving and they gave us 1 glass each of their free welcome drinks. That was our first cold drinks after a long hike! My husband politely asked if he could have another glass and this front desk girl's facial expression was very unpleasant! I can read expressions, that one means the request was unwelcomed, and her tone when she asked another girl to give my husband another glass was of a forced compliance. We paid Php7300 for 1 night, i was thinking that one additional glass won't cost their bussiness much. I did not mentioned what I saw in her expression to my husband so as not to ruin our stay. That night my husband voiced out his dismay over the incident and I told him I observed the same thing. We went in and out of our hotel room and the facial expression of the front desk staff didn't changed! Still very unwelcoming, no hello's or how are you or good morning or good afternoon! The room was fine though, nicely decorated and smells nice, but without hair blower and no robe though. With the amount we paid, I was expecting those two things I always look for with hotels with that coat range. The breakfast was average, nothing special with the taste but it was presented neatly. The management has to train their staff on customer service, a nice room won't compensate an unwelcoming atmosphere.

Pros:
1. Location - near a lot of restaurants and points of interest
2. Nice cozy bed with clean bed linens (very homely and one of the most comfortable beds i've stayed in)
3. Front Desk Staff were polite and eager to please (special thanks to Ms. Ren)

Cons:
1. Parking space is limited. had to double park and be called from the room to move the car
2. Breakfast menu is limited (but I love their Tuyo flakes & Daing na Dilis, .I would also give emphasis on their brewed coffee, comparable with the best brewed coffee i ever tasted)
3. No wifi in rooms. Common area is far from the rooms and a flight of stairs going up from the rooms.
4. The first row of rooms under the common area has a very thin ceiling. footsteps and loud voices from the common area above (viewing deck) penetrate the rooms very easily.
5. Wait Staffs need to be more attentive and more welcoming, it was kind of lonely cause the staffs gave us the feeling that they don't want us there. The girl disappeared while we were eating so when we needed something, there was no one there to serve us I had to get up to the reception and ask Ms. Ren even she’s taking some phone call. The waitress reappeared when we were nearly finished. They need more training in dealing with people and to know what their roles are...and perhaps more formal in their attires instead of slippers and shorts.

Well, we still had a wonderful stay. It's a nice place but very small establishment with staffs needing training.

This is one of the places where you can take a piece of Taal landscape. I like the peaceful environment away from noise coming from the city. Though the cleanliness of the room fell short of our expectations, the overall quality of the stay was very good. It is recommended for any one who wants to escape the city-life/cityscape.

Minor issues with dust on the furniture, and spider webs of lightings, curtain can easily fall off the rail, had hard time locking the door from the balcony, water takes time to heat up, in our room), a nail is surfacing from the wooden floor that might pose an injury - hope they fix that immediately. We enjoyed the bed, the weather, the view. But hopefully they take time to address these issues at once.

The hotel is also located near dining establishments and attractions but when you're there you might think twice leaving the hotel and instead order some food from room service and enjoy the relaxing/serene setting with the wonderful view of Tall Lake/Volcano.

Until next time!

It was one of those weekends when I had to plan something special for BF, who was staying in Manila for a few weeks then. He's always charmed by Tagaytay so we decided to spend a weekend there. I was scanning through BNBs and found a list of overpriced ones. Yes, as expensive as Shangri-La Makati per night!!! Lucky me, I stumbled upon Joaquin's, the pics are interesting, the reviews are good, and the price is great! But what made it more special were all the good things that come with the affordable P3k+/night. The perfect view of the lake, the homey (colorful!) comfy rooms (quiet aircon too!), the warm and attentive staff, and the yummy breakfast. What's more, it's in the middle of all the restos that we lined up to try (Bawai's, Pamana and Antonio's yet again) and near a running oval to burn all the Tagaytay yummers. But the best part of the stay, is knowing that JOAQUIN is named after the owner's special child, one cute detail that made Joaquin's even closer to my heart.

It works both ways: either rent a car (for convenience) or go for the local transport plying the route (roughing it out a bit). Walking would be a healthy alternative too to discover other places surrounding Joaquin's.
