Will I go back? Yes.
What actually disappointed me is the lack of much of what makes a hotel stay a great experience, view or non view. The food has a limited menu and the quality would be about OK for a family restaurant or a 2-star restaurant, definitely not for a 4-star hotel.
The pool is very nice but it comes with no amenities. The SPA was closed, because of Covid lockdown. The gym is tiny.
The Customer Service was a mixed bag. Concierge and cleaning staff was corteous. Staff at the restaurant was poorly trained. The few times we ate there we had to repeat our requests them several times because they kept "forgetting". And the place wasn't even that busy.
On the plus side, the WiFi connection was pretty good, I have seen much worse even in larger cities.
All in all, not a terrible experience, but definitely overpriced for what it offers. I would echo a few fellow Reviewers saying that, given the location, Escala has the potential to be the best boutique hotel in Tagaytay. Unfortunately customer service, underwhelming food experience and lack of amenities worth a 4-star hotel spoil the game.
Highly recommend the Escala Tagaytay for it's exquisite service and features, including the delicious breakfast buffet which boasts local and traditional cuisine as well as a 'made to order' crepe and egg/omelet station. Amazing service, kind smiles and greetings, clean and comfortable rooms made for a great stay.
*Our AC had a leak which was serviced but not completely fixed which would actually be a 4.5 out of 5 vs 5 out of 5. Otherwise absolutely excellent experience.
Food is excellent quality, including dinner and the breakfast buffet. There is entertainment at night. The breakfast includes a fine selection of Filipino dishes as well as a salad bar, eggs to order, etc. Only missing some decent breads and pastries (there's a toaster but no bread!) , beyond just the Pandesal varieties that are offered.
The room is a good size with a pleasant balcony in every room, and has very comfortable bedding. A kettle is provided in the room, but you have to request and wait for cups and coffee making packets (low quality) to be delivered. This may be a COVID hangover?... it seems unnecessary and cheap move for a 4 star hotel.
The shower is awesome. I do really dislike the endless bottles (plastic waste - 10 tiny bottles). Please consider moving to dispensers like international chains are now moving to for some time. The amenities though overall are generous. A fan and aircon are available, not were not needed in November.
Service throughout is excellent - you are greeted everywhere by all staff. Best in Philippines I've experienced.
This hotel opened in 2016, with a bold and novel architectural design maximizing the use of the stunning lake view. It is just starting to show some minor wear and tear, with a few patches to the outside walls and paint, worn decking around the pool, etc. Also an ugly corner with rubbish piled up - the windows at the end of the floors. But this is very minimal so far. I hope they have a program and budget to repaint and maintain..... at the prices charged, this should be affordable.
Can't wait to stay again!
We stayed in Executive Room 203, which was spacious and well-appointed, yet we were dismayed to discover a cockroach on the floor beneath the TV. Furthermore, the air conditioning unit not only looked outdated but also seemed unclean, which added to our discomfort. I promptly contacted the front desk to report these issues, but it took them 20 minutes to send someone to address the problems—a response time that I found to be unacceptable.
The breakfast buffet, however, was a redeeming feature, as my wife and children thoroughly enjoyed it. Nevertheless, I was unpleasantly surprised when I was asked to pay an additional fee for one of my children, a charge that was not disclosed to me at check-in but was only brought to my attention upon checking out. This felt like an unjustified charge, and to make matters worse, I was also billed P150 for a water bottle, despite having only consumed the complimentary one provided in the room.
Overall, I found the experience disappointing and would not consider returning. I would prefer to explore other accommodation like Taal Vista should I visit Tagaytay again.
For such a premium room price, I would have thought a capsule coffee machine would have been a nice touch, instead we were provided cheap, poor quality instant coffee (see pic).
It's a pity the room wooden floor was so scratched in places, easily rectified if only someone had thought to use furniture feet protectors?
I think the hotel is either showing its age or has poor maintenance practices, needs a paint, refurb in areas (see pic).
We did not swim in the pool, it looked dirty and in need of cleaning (see pic).
The management or owners are to blame, someone simply needs to walk around with a critical eye and an allowed maintenance budget, this place could be SO much improved.
Bellissima, was fine, nothing special.
A highlight is always the staff in Philippine hotels, great people, good service. Special thanks to Jonath (restaurant), April (Spa).
The view is almost unbelievable, breathtaking, we were in awe throughout our stay (see pic).
Check out was unusual, we were asked to take a seat while our room was checked. I've never ever ever experienced this, to my mind, embarrassing and somewhat rude and leaves a negative exit experience.
When asked why, we were told this was in case something was left in the room,
but let's be honest, if this was the reason, it would be offered as a courtesy option not a hotel policy rule regardless. As adults we're quite capable of leaving a room taking all personal possessions with us, so in honesty it's to check for room damage or theft, blatantly masking as a customer service, maybe it's been a problem here?
Would we visit again, maybe, I'll keep an eye on the reviews for any progress on above.
Salamat
