Good morning to all readers 1. Our rooms are designed in a coastal style for full ventilation so yes insects can come and go trhough windows and doors. At no time did the guests mention to management that they had issues with mosquitoes (or any other wildlife) while staying with us. 2. The "pack of dogs" are 2, sometimes 4 strays who wander the beaches looking for anything to eat but are rarely in our property. Our neighbour also has 2 dogs who stray onto our property via the beach. The beach zone is open to all in Tanzania, whether it is your property or not. The issue of strays is one that is normally handled by the district council but they have been "blocked" from doing so by one foreigner living in our location who has opposed putting down these animals, in favour of de-sexing (but this leaves the animals alive and still a nuisance from their scavenging, etc). Nevertheless, the incident described is completely exaggerated as the gardener - who was cutting grass with a hand slasher - shood away these dogs and that was that. He did not endanger anyone, let alone a small child, an outrageous claim for anyone to make. They were not around for the 8 days of course (otherwise we would call the council). i was here throughout this time as were our two senior managers and the guest did not mentione this at all at the time. "The indifferent owner Peter Byrne did not know anything of this incident as Natalia did not say anything at all to anyone, but on checking with the gardeners and beach attendant we were able to understand the incident, which was not at all dangerous to the guests. 3. the husband's sandals: our pool attendant brings up to the office each day whatever is left at the pool or on beach beds on the beach. last week this included a client's credit cards ! Always there are shoes, our beach towels, glasses, hats, books, etc. We have never had a complaint. These guests, however, chose to do their excursions with local unlicenced "beach boys" who charge less than any hotel since they have no overheads, no licences, pay no taxes and employ nobody (we employ 45 from the local community). Unfortunately, we have experienced complaints from guests that items "disappear" on some of these trips but we have no control over these operators. On the day of the claimed "theft" of the sandals the guests had taken yet another boat trip with these operators and he needed his shoes for the trip. We made checks with all staff who could have seen the sandals of course, including night security. Unfortunately, the sandals did not turn up (as i expected they would not). This is one of the many reasons we ask guests to be very careful with whom they go out with on excursions (it is also against government policy to do this, there is no insurance cover, there is no first aid, etc either). Natalia's husband demanded that we refund him $ 150 for a pair of sandals which we naturally refused as each guest is responsible for their personal property and its care. 4. There is no refrigerator in the room. Correct and here is the real issue. the "medicines" were taken before breakfast so to have them in the bar refrigerator right next to the restaurant was no in fact a convenience (as she could give the medicine to the children before breakfast) and our staff went out of their way to assist Natalia. And they did not go back to the room to clean teeth until after breakfast, as most us of do. I doubt that a mother adminsitering vitamins or anti-malarials should feel any embarrassment (if so use the bathroom attached to the bar-restaurant), as we ask all ouir guests to treat Kinasi as their own home and be completely themselves. However, the issue of the refrigerator was central to the main issue, that of bringing their own wine into a private property and then demanding it be served to them as if it had been supplied by our hotel. However, the real issue is that these guests arrived with a dozen bottles of their own wine because they stated "our agent told us we could bring our own drinks". This is clearly unacceptable when staying in a hotel that provides not only a bar but a well-stocked wine cellar as well. And we are happy to pre-stock special orders for guests if we are so advised. After speaking to the agent for this booking we were told that he absolutely had NOT told the guest that they could do that and went on to say that they tell their clients NOT to take drinks to hotels, which are obviously in the business of accommodation, food and beverages. We therefore charged the client a service fee for providing refrigeration, ice buckets, glasses and bar personnel for their bottles (there were a lot of them, usually 2 per day). 5. Another inaccuracy as the tides change every day and it is written on our website and in all our marketing collateral that the beach here is tidal, altering each day according to the phases of the moon and changing height also so for half of each day the beach is normal and perfect for swimming. Not much we can do about that. Thank you Peter Byrne
