Camped. Group of 12 people. Were robbed during the night by two perpetrators who stole belongings out of our friends' tent while they were sleeping. Incident took place between 01 00 and 02 00 in the morning. The thieves snooped around and even scratched in bags inside the one car with rooftop tent. Stolen items were shoes, toiletry bags with prescription medicine, clothes bag with torch and other personal belongings. A panga was left in front of the tent.

Sitatunga campsite is well located close to Maun, but in a quiet area away from the town. You can upgrade for P40 per person per night to get a private ablutions block with a covered area, which was very handy in the rainy season! The staff are super helpful and friendly and helped us organise activities in the Delta. The bar has a good vibe and the food in the restaurant was a nice change from camping cooking, with lots of veggie options. It's about 3 hours drive to Moremi Park gate, but doable for a day trip if you are early risers. The only slight downside was the Mozzies were rampant - you definitely didn't want to stay in the bathroom too long!

Sitatunga is a great option for camping in Maun. A truly exceptional Restuarant to treat yourself as well as inviting pool, well-maintained garden, surrounds and camp sites. Hot water. Tom, the manager, is particularly friendly and helpful. Pay them a visit, or even just go for a tasty meal.

We spend 5 nights at Sitatunga. Beautiful campsite. Very friendly people. Loved chatting to Tom the camp manager. His people skills are on par with a camp manager at a 5 star lodge. Will definitely camp at Sitatunga again.

Against my better judgement we returned here to give it a second try as in 2017 a large group of us got food poisoning here. I had booked and paid for camping and was heartily greeted at the gate and offered an upgrade to a safari tent. This sounded great but I was not given the full credit for what I had I paid because it had been paid to Safari.com and they said I was responsible for their commission. First place I have ever heard of charging customer commission for their agency fee. Very disappointed. Camp staff are friendly but management not so.

Response from Gerald S, Owner at Sitatunga Campsite
Responded 9 Jul 2019
Dear Jenny. Thank you for your review. However I think you have got a few things wrong. If you booked and paid for Camping via a booking website then you should realise that they will pay us our stipulated rate less what the agreed comission is. (where this gets tricky). If you are a South African paying in Rands but are are quoted in USD then you already lose due to the connversion rate. As we live and operate in Botswana we get paid in Pula. The Pula is stronger than the Rand so the by the end of it you have inadvertantly gone through 2 money exchanges. This has nothing to do with us. we set the price in Pula they (booking website) convert it to Dollars and then to Rand. Had you booked directly with us you would have got it at the correct rate. Now, When you were offered the upgrade to our Meru tents you were credited the full amount of what your camping fee for 2 people would have been ( bearing in mind that this is not what we were paid) and then charged the balance of going rate at the door which is the same price that everyone else around you paid. I believe we handled the situation fairly. There is no such thing as us charging a client for an agency fee. An agent(booking website) will charge us a fee for getting the confirmed booking. We are only liable to offer you what we were actually paid. The rest (commission that you are talking about) you will need to claim back from whoever you booked with. Make sense? Thank you for bringing this up on Tripadvisor. The person you were dealing with was actually the owner and I can assure you that it is in our interest to treat each customer in a way that will make them feel at home so that they return. I sincerely hope that you enjoyed the rest of your Put Foot Rally. Perhaps if you do it again next year come and have a beer with us.

Located about 15km West of Maun. Power, light, braai and water at each site. Trees for shade if you don't mind the noisy squirrels waking you in the morning. Local trips can be booked at the reception including Mokoro and Helicopter. The bar serves good food including Pizza and Fish.

Thank you ! We are so happy that you enjoyed your time with us. The Squirrels and Glossy Starlings have a very important job here. They alert us of any creepy crawlies that we need to know about. In addition, thank you from the kitchen team. We are about to make some serious upgrades to the menu to ensure that we have happy campers all round.

We spent 2 nights at Sitatunga Camp on our last holiday. The campsite was beautifully situated under some trees. Take note that in the dry season all campsites in Botswana tend to be very dusty. We had electricity and water at our site. The comunal bathrooms were clean and functional. We were a short walk from the river, where one can see crocodiles and hippos

This was definitely one of the best camps we have ever been to. Would recommend it over and over especially if you have kids. Ablutions are spacious and clean with warm water, the bar is a fantastic place to unwind while you have an eye over the kids on the playground and the staff is very friendly.
