Pioneer in the Valle del RĂo de las Vueltas and surrounded by a thick forest of native trees we find the recreation of an antique Patagonian country house, similar to the ones inhabited by the pioneers who populated the Patagonia. Upon entering we perceive a warm and cosy climate where creaking wood may be heard burning in the great main chimney. The bar, the dining room, the library are all of free access to guests, who will feel as if they were at home. There is also a deck, an ideal corner located in the east wing of the house and protected from the winds, where guests will enjoy a sunny afternoon.

On a recent hiking trip through Patagonia, Hosteria El Pilar stood out as our favorite lodging for a variety of reasons. The location was superb with lots of hiking possibilities and unrivaled views. The hospitality could not have been more warm and gracious with Christina, Guillermo and their staff always available and welcoming. The food was beyond a doubt the best of our trip... every day for four days. Unique tasty dinners (with out of this world desserts by Christina), cooked to order delicious breakfasts, and lunches made to order for take away with home made snacks. the room was great and the common areas warm and inviting. We will never forget El Pilar!!

As we drove from the airport of El Calafate to El Chalten, we thought that no scenery ever anywhere could possibly be this beautiful. The snow-covered mountains literally glowed, and the lakes and fields looked like they were crafted from a fairy tale. When our driver went through the little city of El Chalten and entered a gravel road, we thought surely he was lost. After several miles on the gravel road, we finally came to our cozy boutique hotel. At that point, our jaws needed lifting off the ground. El Pilar is on a gorgeous stream and smack dab in the center of the most magnificent scenery we've ever experienced. There are no words to describe our astonishment when we saw that our bedroom window directly faced Fitz Roy, the actual mountain that the Patagonia clothing logo is based on. The hiking right out the door is beyond legendary (we hiked 10 miles one day and 11 the next), and every single other aspect of El Pilar is EVERY bit as special. The remarkable hosts, Christine and Guillermo were utterly accommodating and charming, and the inclusive 3 meals a day were as delicious as any restaurant we've ever enjoyed anywhere! The other guests we met were from all over the world, and were all totally engaging and lovely. El Pilar is like no other experience on Earth, and it was not only the highlight of Argentina, but one of the absolute highlights of our travels around the world....ever!

It was early in the season but our hosts were very organized, the rooms were very comfortable and the meals were excellent. Wine was priced so well, and there was lots of flexibility in when we enjoyed our meals. We were very well located to the best hiking and views were 10/10!

Such a beautiful authentic hosteria right at the head of several trails. Christina and Guillermo were so helpful and friendly and their food was amazing. Many things were homegrown or homemade and it is as eco friendly as possible. The views of Fitzroy were incredible.

We greatly enjoyed spending two full days here in the middle of the mountains. The popular day hike to Campamento Poincenot and (if you're ambitious) Laguna de Los Tres starts outside the door, and we could see the famous peaks each morning from our window. Another day we did a different hike that starts about 1 km further down the road.
Since it's an isolated spot, we relied on the Hosteria for our meals, which were wonderful. Breakfasts are included, packed lunches are available, and for dinner you can choose from a menu of several delicious items. Our room and the common areas were very pleasant and were great for relaxing after a strenuous day. The proprietors were unfailingly helpful and gave us all the advice we needed on trekking options.
If you don't want to rent a car, you can take a bus from El Calafate to El Chalten (we used Lengas) and then continue on route 23 (it becomes a gravel road at that point) by taxi to the Hosteria. Also after your trek to Poincenot, for variety you can hike downhill into the town and then take a taxi back.

Couldnt have chosen a better place to spend our Christmas at! Setting and design of the little Hosteria make this already very special, hover the hospitality of Guillermo, his wife and staff turn this place into a true gem. Food was very good - enough choices to always find something for everybody. And nothing beats a beer after the hike in front of the house or a drink at night in front of the fireplace. Best place we found during our trip!

This lovely and charming Hosteria was the most memorable of our tour in Patagonia. Chris and Guillermo were such a wonderful hosts for the 4 nights we stayed in El Chalten. The fire in the fireplace was always set right from the morning until the bed time, the help and guidance we got to plan the days activities and hikes, the best ever dinners and wines in this small private setting, like being home:). No TV , no Internet connection, and that was not needed!
Love to come back one day, thankyou!!:):)

We stayed here two nights with a group doing some hiking around El Chalten, and wish we could have stayed longer. Cris and Guillermo welcome you as if you were family, and the entire staff is kind and attentive. The location is amazing - just feet from the river and right on the trail to La Laguna de los Tres. Food was wonderful, rooms are spacious and you wake up every morning to those views of the mountains! It's a ways outside of town, but that is a good thing as you will think you are visiting relatives in the mountains.

They are selling themselves short by calling it a hostel. In reality it’s a cozy boutique hotel with 10 spacious en suite rooms in the most perfect surroundings. William and Cristina are extremely warm and helpful, and at the same time chill. I had the most wonderful stay.
