Detailed Reviews
We couldn't find this hotel on the internet but a friend of mine recommended it and so we went. They have rooms with private bathrooms and also cabanas (apartments).
The room was very small but very clean and the rooms on the back have a view of the mountain Fitz Roy (if not in the clouds). After a day of hiking a warm warm shower was very comfortable.
Breakfast was simple and plain. Internet access: that seems to be a problem of the whole of El Chalten. The hotel has wifi and I noticed that during the night I was able to email. During the day the satellite connection of El Chalten is too busy.
Also: don't try to reach the hotel by mail (currently the hotel has not a website). If you want to make a reservation than a phone call is probably best. Yes they are very friendly and no they don't speak English.
One more thing: next door is the Hostel del Lago, which is something else, I didn't stay there (by the same owners).

This place had all the essentials: clean, great location, very nice/helpful staff, good enough breakfast (eggs/toast). Our room (2 twin beds) was small, we just barely fit/had to maneuver around each other, but we didn’t spend that much time in our rooms, so that was OK.
Grocery store, pharmacy, bars/resturants, trailheads, are all closeby. It’s a pretty small town, and pretty basic at that, but you’ll find the essentials.

We travelled in high season and so there was little choice when we came to book a place in El Chaltern - we stayed for 3 nights.
El Chalten appears more expensive than other areas in Chile & Argentina we've visited and compared to those, it wasn't particularly good value as the room was tiny and the cost more expensive.
The room was a twin on the first floor with a view of the mountain. We had to push the 2 beds together to make enough room to put our luggage on the floor (2 large bags +2 hand-luggage). The beds were not particularly comfortable either.
Private bathroom with nice shower.
Breakfast was the usual fayre for Chile but also included scrambled eggs.
The staff were quite pleasant and the room was cleaned every day.
5 mins walk from the bus station, shops, restuarants, tour offices all within easy walking distances.
Overall ok, but disappointed with our room which was too tiny to have stayed longer than we did.

We lived a horrible experience in the room, the windows were of terrible quality and opened alone with the wind at night! It is worth remembering that in these latitudes the winds can exceed 150 km/h.
Worse, the window glass was common (raw), and for every closing element there were two tiny pins that not only did not close the window, but were already unscrewed, the window opened all night alone, posing a danger to us from the glass that could break, and entered cold (zero degrees...)
To top it off, the bathroom smelled like a permanent sewer, had a sewer pipe open directly to the environment...
And the bed was super uncomfortable.
They promote the hotel with the exterior photos and the hall that is fancy but then the infrastructure of the rooms is very poor, the constructive features are not in accordance with the Patagonian climate. I do not recommend it at all.

Excellent care, incredible dedication of all the staff, especially Titiana and her owner who with their amazing and very abundant meals closed every day in the best way.
Very good advice on hiking.
Very good view of the Fitz Roy.

Standards are not very high in El Chalten so a even though this is called a hotel, it is more of a hostal. Staff is friendly and internet slow, like everywhere in el chalten. OK beds is a bit tired rooms. Good for sleeping and a nice hot shower. Not a decent chair in the hotel to sit in. They do accept creditcards. OK value.

This hotel is of very good value in El Chalten. Good location close to bus terminal, supermarkets and restaurants. The rooms are quiet and adequate. Beds are comfortable.
The breakfast is very basic. See my photos attached.
Wifi is exceptionally good considering it's in El Chalten. Ping latency 8ms. Download speed 1Mbps. Upload speed 0.88Mbps.

Service OK, nice and helpful. Room was ample but no frills. Beds OK. Breakfast a bit poor, clearly improvable. Well located, near main street in El Chaltén, with plenty of services around; restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets, a laundry. Not too far from bus station (walking distance). It is a comfortable place to rest when tired after hiking around el Chaltén.

We loved our stay at Hotel Lago del Desierto. It was the perfect place to stay after life on the road.
After spending the last few weeks in hostels, having 5 nights at Hotel Lago del Desierto was great. The room and en suite we’re clean, and the bed was a perfect size. We also enjoyed having breakfast in the hotel every morning.
The hotel is in a great proximity to the bus station, hikes and the rest of the town.
Would highly recommend a stay here for more comfort than your average hostel.

We booked a budget hotel and shouldn't be surprised that it was a bit shabby. We really enjoyed our stay, the town is really cool and the trecking is outstanding. The hotel was really friendly and the breakfast was good. Sadly the room was in pretty poor shape, every element of the shower was broken, peeling wall paper, stains on the bedding and mould in a patch in the wall. It was also very noisy from 06:30 as they started setting the tables for breakfast. Our stay deserves more than a 2 but the room cannot be given any more. Sorry!
