The owner is very friendly and helpful. It's well located, but I think this might be true for almost everyplace in El Chalten. The breakfast is good, but the highlight is the view to the Fitz Roy from one of the tables.

This hospederia was a bit of a mixed bag. Obviously, in a town like El Chalten, all you're after is clean and basic... But this place could really be something special.
The hosts were super lovely, the rooms were cleaned daily, the wifi was decent for the end of the world, the breakfast was simple but tasty (you could organise it the night before if you wanted to leave for an early hike), and there was a communal fridge to store food.
But, even after considering that Patagonia is a very expensive place, we thought that for the price, there were some little things that we thought could be improved: access to the communal areas was quite restricted, the heating was lovely but not adjustable, there is an awesome space for an outside communal area that would be ideal, and perhaps a general freshen up would go a long way.
Location wise, it's excellent, as most places are in a very very small town. You can walk out the door to many of the trails, there are restaurants and stores within five minutes walk, and the bus station is less that ten minutes walking.
We definitely had a great time, and enjoyed our stay... But this place could really be a stand out option with a little TLC.

Enjoyable stay in sparse yet suitable accomodations. The owner is pleasant and will accommodate needs. The breakfast is simply a microwaved roll and what they call coffee here in Argentina. Considering room rates in the off season here in El Chalten I felt lucky to have gotten a decent room with private bath for a cheap rate. But perhaps next time I will just stay at a hostel with shared bath for much much less and have the place to myself. The off season is like the Jersey shore in January...nobody here!!
I would upload pictures but the internet is so slow here that I wasn't able to do so. Again, this is the off season and the Internet is slow? Like old dial-up speeds! 1200 baud. They need to improve infrastructure to retain those youngster's social networking connectivity.

The best thing about this Hostel is the front desk lady, Jandra (short for Alejandra). She works a long day but is always cheerful, keen to help, and smiling.
The next best things are the heater and comfortable bed.
It is only a few blocks from the bus station and some shops and restaurants. It’s a twenty-minute warm-up walk to the trail head for the hike to Fitz Roy.
Our room (#1) was large and had a view of Fitz Roy on sunny days. The bathroom was tiny.
Breakfast consisted of tang, coffee/tea/hot milk/, bread & medialunas (and of course dulce de leche and jam).
It rains a lot in El Chalten so it would be nice if the hostel offered some way to get clothes dry. Perhaps a rack or at least hooks near the heater.
Things that weren’t perfect:
Thin walls (noise from other rooms).
Very low water pressure in the shower. I’m all for conserving water, but this lack of pressure is beyond that concept (especially when it’s so cold in the bathroom).
Our bathroom window didn’t seal well so it was always cold in the bathroom.
Our toilet never stopped running. We had to lift the lid of the tank and close the flapper each time we flushed the toilet.
Our toilet paper was not renewed as needed and we had to ask for it when we ran out.
These last two items are things that the cleaning lady obviously needs training in dealing with.
I would hope that you could find a better place in El Chalten.

Going for a weekend trip, me and a couple booked 2 rooms a week earlier. One for the couple, one for me. To our surprise, when we arrived, the hostess told us that she only had 1 room available. Blamed Despegue.com and Booking that made a reservation at the same time for the last room.
So, for the first night I literally had to share the room with the couple, throwing an extra matress on the floor. The awkwardness didn't get more odd, because I actually was friends with the couple. Imagine if I wasn't. And room is small, the bathroom smaller, barely average for 2 people. For 3, it's very uncomfortable.
I booked a week before in advance, and she didn't manage to give us notice. Blamed Despegue that didn't ask for personal details. Well, if it's true, why didn't contact the other person who booked at the same time. Did it also not have contact info? What about the credit card info?
Anyway, horribly mismanaged, and the hostess told us that no other rooms were available in all the other hotels in El Chaltén. Never seen this before, and it all sounded very fishy.
Beds were comfortable (if you're sleeping in the bed and not in a matress on the floor), and bathroom is clean, but as been said in other reviews, the shower has TERRIBLE water pressure. Expect to be pressing your body against the wall.
And the two knobs for hot and cold were swapped, while I was waiting for the water to warm up.
I can't say for other accomodations in El Chaltén, but as far as Thiamalu goes, my impression for the breakfast was below average: Coffe, Milk, some bun slices, some croissants, butter and jam, and that's it. No cheese, no fruits, nothing. I don't know if it's because El Chaltén is in a remote place or what.
The walls are thin, if the adjacent room is filled with noisy people, you will hear them.
In spite of all that, sleep was good, comfortable, room is well heated (bathroom heater has no control, so it gets pretty hot in there with the door closed), and location is ok, seemed a little far off, but nothing too much since El Chaltén is pretty small.
But I can't recommend a place that makes such a terrible booking decision like this. Very embarassing.

I have traveled extensively around the world and have never felt so cheated.
This is basic accommodation that is not worth what it costs!!!
Also if you ask politely about some small change or something that the owner doesn´t like, she will say that she isn´t your maid. Terrible!
And so speculative with the rates of change!
She doesn´t realize that the success of a business depends on good comments from passengers ...
I would not recommend at all. There are lots of nicer places at reasonable prices.

Nice, clean hostel - rooms were great and comfortable. My only complaint is that when we tried to pay in pesos, the owner would not give us the official conversation rate and wanted us to pay at a higher rate in pesos if we didn't have enough dollars on us. We felt that as we are in Argentina, we shouldn't pay any kind of penalty for paying with the local currency.

The nicest bedroom and cleanest, most modern bathroom I had while in Patagonia. Big comfortable bed. Weak wifi, but that's a common issue in El Chalten. Ali was a friendly host with good typical breakfast. Only common space was dining area, which has nice windows.

In spite El Chalten is full of cute hostels and options to stay, this remain as a good option.
At the beginning it doesn't look like anything special, but when you start to notice the details you start to love it.
People are very nice, In our case, Nicholas and Francisca had always a very good attitude toward to us and everything they do.
The place is very clean, and they clean it everyday.
The room was always warm, the bathroom had everything you could need.
The breakfast even it is only different kind of breads, was generous, recently baked and delicious.

I think we were in room 3. Our shower smelled so bad(musty/moldy) we had to keep the room door open (the windows didn't open) and close the bathroom door. Rooms were on the small side but big enough for what we needed. Would have liked to open a window over night because it smelled in the room and was warm with one heavy blanket, but couldn't.
The breakfast was good coffee. tea or cocoa. Bread and croissants with jam and butter.
Host, not Andy mentioned in previous posts but a woman, speaks limited English.
I wouldn't stay here again.

No lo se. Pero sugiero que consultes porque la atencion es bastante flexible pero debo informarte que está penado salir con mascotas del pueblo (o ingresar a los senderos que es lo mismo) porque estas dentro de un parque nacional.
