All our luxury rooms and suites are sea facing while many are interconnected to provide family-friendly configurations. Our intimate destination spa, The Well, is a key attraction.

Nestled in a scenic cliffside location, the Cliff House Hotel captivates guests with its breathtaking views and proximity to picturesque walks. While the hotel's cleanliness and amenities, such as the beautiful pool and spa, consistently receive accolades, some visitors criticize the value, finding the offerings overpriced and the rooms in need of an update.
The service is mostly commended for being attentive and professional, though it's not without occasional lapses. Guests are charmed by the atmosphere, despite noting that it has some dated aspects.

Detailed Reviews
I have very mixed feelings about the Cliff House. I stayed here for one night in July for a friend’s birthday. I appreciate it was in the peak of the summer holidays, however, I still felt that the hotel was way overpriced for what is being offered.
My room, a deluxe terrace room, was average in size with modern furnishings, including a small table with chairs, and a lounge chair by the window and door opening out to the balcony. Although clean, there were the odd cob webs around. It certainly has a cruise ship feel to it as you walk from the room out to the balcony.
The bathroom had a full size tub and a separate shower with Anne Semonin amenities.
The design of the hotel is a bit quirky; a testament to how the building was developed over the years. The cruise ship feel continues throughout with various staircases leading to different areas.
We made a last minute decision to dine at the hotel’s Bar Restaurant. We were initially told that it’s unlikely to get a table. As soon as the restaurant manager, who was exceptional and helpful, realised what the situation was and that we were hotel guests, we were quickly accommodated. All the staff were well meaning and polite, although the younger generation were not as polished as they could be, but that brought its own charm.
There were panoramic views from the outdoor seating area of the restaurant/bar as well as the rooms, overlooking Ardmore Bay. A set of stairs also leads down to a platform with steps into the sea for those who fancy a swim.
Breakfast was served at the House Restaurant as more or less a la carte and was very nice.
On paper, the Cliff house should have been great. In reality it was disappointing. Considering how very expensive it was during our stay, even for the peak summer period, I expected more from the property.

Booked as a birthday gift for my girlfriend earlier in the year, due to Covid lockdown we couldn’t stay at the time,
Friendly Staff Helped arrange to stay once it reopened,
What a fantastic hotel, valet parking on arrival, quick and efficient check in and brought to a bright and airy room with a spectacular sea view.
Had dinner in the bar restaurant on both nights, couldn’t speak highly enough of the friendly staff and the food (champ was was mouthwatering, not the mention the desserts!)
Staff put our minds at ease with regards to covid, everyone had masks, hotel was spotlessly clean and sanitising stations located all over the hotel, breakfast was made to order so we didn’t have to book a slot like in other hotels and could eat when we wanted which I really liked and the breakfast variety was 10/10.
We did book time in the pool and this meant the pool area wasn’t overcrowded and we we able to enjoy the pool with the incredible views of Ardmore bay.
In my opinion this hotel was incredible and you get exactly what you pay for and more! We will definitely be back to cliff house and can’t wait to do so!

We stayed here over New Year (2019/2020) and it was amazing! We had a room that has two large windows overlooking the water. In front of these are two windows are large chairs that you can happily sit in and watch the world go by! Our room was amazing. On our first night there we did the tasting menu with matching wines in the restaurant, which was delicious, but do make sure you have room to eat! The second night we were involved with their New Year's celebration, which was great fun. The service throughout the hotel is great and I honestly cannot recommend this hotel enough. We did their walk which takes you though the village (a lot of history for somewhere so small) and this was lovely as well, it takes you right to the cliffs. It is expensive, but we certainly felt it was money very well spent!

We were looking forward to a relaxing get away in a 5 star hotel and so we booked a ‘package deal’ for the new year break at the Cliff House Hotel. The package involved 2 nights bed and breakfast plus one evening meal and was quoted at €1,568.
From the moment of our arrival we were underwhelmed. The walk to and from our suite involved passing through a long and cold corridor. The turndown service each evening was not impressive-in fact it was difficult for us to see what had actually been done. There was no mini bar in the suite. There was no room service menu in the suite. There were no wine glasses in the suite. Tea bags were provided but if one wanted to use them one had to phone reception for a kettle!!
The small fitness room has just two treadmills and if one wanted to use the mat for exercise one was obliged to lie down in the narrow strip between the two machines as there was no other space in the room.
A tiny serving of champagne was given to each guest before dinner on New Year’s Eve. On a positive note, the food in the main dining room was very good and a newly arrived addition to the staff, Milan from Slovakia, stood out in terms of his welcome and friendliness. The main dining room was closed on our second night and so we were obliged to eat in the bar area. The food in the bar was, in our view, overpriced with an €11 supplement to upgrade from a sirloin to a fillet steak resulting in a charge of €41 for a steak in a bar.
Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of all was when we realized that we were paying significantly more for having bought a ‘package deal’ than we would have been charged had we simply reserved our room and our evening meal separately. We brought this matter to the attention of the staff and our bill was reduced by €170.
Over all, however, we remained under impressed with this hotel and although we paid a 5 star price we could not say that we had a 5 star experience.

Dear AGPF, Thank you for your compliments of The House Restaurant however it was with regret I read of your disappointment with other aspects of your visit. I certainly apologise though it is important to clarify some details by response. Our Room Service menu is located in our Guest Directory in each Guest room and wine glasses are delivered with every order of wine by the bottle via Room Service. Each of our Guest rooms and suites contain a mini bar which is stocked with confectionery & beverages prior to each Guest stay. As per the Guest Directory mini bars can also be stocked with preferred items at any time during your visit upon request. It appears that your primary concern was with cost however please be assured that we are certainly on par with hotels of a similar awarded accreditation domestically over the New Years period. Once again I regret that you felt disappointment on this occasion and wish you the very best for the New Year. Kind regards, Patrick Shields, General Manager.

The room, views and surrounding area are brilliant. I think we must have come at a time when staff were overworked and a bit tired.
Firstly, we checked in and got lunch. We were sat at a lovely sea-view table by a young fair haired man. We were then moved to a less than ideal table where one of us was facing away from the sea view. 5 minutes later another couple were sat at our original table. This was a really disappointing start, especially as we were told we were being moved from the original table because it was a table for four and we were only a party of two. A young waiter apologised for the move but the manageress was rude and unhelpful.
We aren’t big fish eaters so maybe the bar restaurant wasn’t the right choice for us for dinner. Our only real option for main courses was steak or chicken. The steak was very very tasty but the chips were underdone and the potatoe gratin was dry and disappointing.
After dinner I went for strawberries, cream, meringue and sorbet. The dessert arrived in a small bowel with 6 strawberries, a dollop of cream, 3 thumbnail sized flakes of meringue and no sorbet. I explained to a waitress that I thought there was supposed to be sorbet with the dessert - she said there was no sorbet on the menu with my dessert so I asked her if she could double check. She then came back to tell me that it was on the menu and that I should have gotten sorbet with my dessert. At this stage I’d already eaten half of my dessert. We were asked how we found our meal when we were paying our bill. I explained what happened with the dessert and in fairness to the manager he took it off the bill. This is more of a warning for anyone thinking of ordering that dish than a complaint, as I think it was dealt with adequately.
The cocktails were nice and the view was unbeatable.
We had breakfast the following morning. The service was slow and poor. We were given one small pot of yoghurt to share between two of us. Toast was served before our hot breakfasts arrived so we asked for more toast to be served with our hot breakfasts when they were ready. Unfortunately, the extra toast arrived when I had finished the majority of my breakfast and when my girlfriends breakfast had gone cold.
We booked treatments in the spa and they were great. Before we arrived at the hotel we were were told we would have to book a time slot for the pool as they could only accommodate two rooms at a time in the pool due to COVID19. This was fair enough so we made sure to book our slots. When we arrived in the pool, there was only one other couple in the pool but within 10 minutes there was a third couple in the pool and by the time we were leaving 20 minutes later there were five rooms in total in the pool, including a family of 5.
Several times passing through reception the staff don’t lift their heads from computers to offer help or say hello. Although room service staff have been very helpful and efficient.
Overall would just expect a much higher standard for price and reputation, compared to other similar priced hotels, the Cliffhouse would be below their standard.

My wife and I spent this weekend in the Cliffhouse to celebrate my wife’s Birthday. This hotel is hard to fault. We had lunch in the bar on arrival, and both dinner and breakfast in the restaurant, all of which were superb. We had the tasting menu in the House restaurant which is an experience, with the food and service both of an exceptional standard. We were upgraded to one of the Veranda Suites which is extremely large and has a fabulous bathroom and view. We used the pool which is beautiful and looks out over Ardmore bay. The Cliff House is a perfect spot to celebrate a special occasion, and although it is not cheap, you never feel like you are overpaying as standard of food, service and accommodation is extremely high. We would highly recommend.

Just back from a night here. The location is stunning with beautiful views from all 39 rooms. We were in room 20 and thought it was great. Excellent shower and bathroom. Large very comfortable bed, nespresso machine , a small seating area off the bedroom, 2 tvs , a mini bar stocked with complimentary chocolate, crisps , water and soft drinks and amazing views. I thought the staff here were fantastic. A real asset to the hotel. On arrival we were met by the excellent Patrick and we had a few great chats with him during our stay. Reception staff were all genuinely friendly and Denise showed us around the hotel and gave us all the info we needed for our stay. The main restaurant was closed as it was a Monday night so we ate in the bar. Menu is a little limited and we both opted for the sirloin steak. It was good but nothing special and at e30 slightly over priced in my opinion although to be expected given the location. Breakfast was faultless. Great selection , beautifully presented by more great staff. Quality food looking out over the sea . A great start to the day. We used the pool which is small and shallow but a great temperature with again lovely views and the outdoor hot tub is definitely worth a visit. Place is obviously not cheap but we really enjoyed it. Its a unique setting and very comfortable. Although it was full enough because the rooms are so spread out it never feels busy and its only at dinner or breakfast you see other guests. We had the pool area to ourselves in the morning. I looked forward to coming here for the location and the views but i think its greatest asset is the staff. Couldnt speak highly enough of them. Everyone we met were genuinely warm and friendly and extremely helpful.

Had the pleasure of an overnight in this stunning hotel! Where will I start
From the moment we arrived until we left it was super from start to finish
The staff we met at the front door, reception, restaurant and the spa were all so attentive and helpful. The suite we stayed in was stunning with breathtaking views The suite had its own temperature gauge so you can set the temperature to suit yourself The Swimming pool was lovely as was the outdoor jacuzzi Could have spent hours there We ate in the bar restaurant where we really enjoyed the food and a bottle of wine Though very busy There was plenty of staff available
Breakfast was the best I’ve ever had with great choice. Ardmore itself is a lovely little quaint village and the Cliff walk is a must
Definitely recommend the Cliff House as it’s a real treat!

Shocking service for a 5 star
Stayed here on 4th September with my boyfriend
Paid 450€ for a night and was disappointed with the experience
Arrived at 3pm and room not ready until 3.30. I wouldn’t be too bothered with that but we were told to go to the bar to wait which we did
The service in the bar was shocking
Too many staff floating around but little attention been given to customers . We were handed drinks menus and then ignored for 15 minutes . I asked two staff if we could order and both said “I’ll get someone down very soon” . How complicated is it to just order a drink . The place wasn’t even that busy .
Got a carrot cake along with the drink and it was no better than a bun you would pick up in spar still with the paper around it and was charged €5. Portion size was for the birds .
The service was appalling at breakfast. We went down at 10am and ordered a portion of waffles for after our hote breakfast . We had forks out down on our table at 10.35am for our waffles. Eventually after following up with staff on 2 occasions (to which no update was given and we were ignored )we just walked away at 11.05am after waiting 30 minutes for a portion of waffles. Why would they put down our cutlery and then leave us waiting a half hour .
We waisted our whole morning here .
The staff clearly do not pay enough attention to customer service in the restaurant . Certainly not 5 star service and disappointing over all.
The spa also was very disappointing. The men’s changing room was basically a building site and no warning was given at all. Disappointing to spend so much money and for the service to be bad

The spa also was very disappointing. The men’s changing room was basically a building site and no warning was given at all. Disappointing to spend so much money and for the service to be bad

Dear MarianF6671ZD, Thank you for staying with us at Cliff House Hotel though it was with regret I read of your disappointment. I would always encourage our valued guests to speak to a manager on duty while with us so that we may address your feedback immediately. Prior to arrival we do send an e-mail informing guests that guest rooms may take up to 4pm to prepare due to the current circumstances with Covid-19. I will ensure to raise your comments regarding bar restaurant and breakfast service with our management team. We have received consistently positive guest comments regarding these services this summer so your feedback in that regard is the exception as opposed to the norm for us. I sincerely apologise and would like to assure you that all guest comments are taken on board by our team. Kind regards, Patrick Shields, General Manager.

Overall experience was nice, food was very over rated and priced, menu was limited and sides were over cooked. Room was lovely the views were amazing, however my girlfriend found black hairs in the bathroom " were both blonde" the air conditioner was also very loud and rattling all night had to turn it off, as I couldn't sleep. Lovely location lovely staff all very friendly would definitely stay again but over priced for the experience.

Ask for king bed when booking , we had one in that room .
Hi Elizabeth. I recommend that you email the hotel directly info at cliffhousehotel ie with your query. My recollection is that they did provide the service but i don't know what the current position is. Their website is usual cliffhousehotel. ie. Have a great holiday. You will love this hotel & Ardmore. Its stunning. Had to include spaces & remove icons as website links are preventing this response from going to you.
Hi 😊
We were asked at table prior to being served the tasting menu if we were allergic to any particular foods . The portions are tasters rather than small meals; for example if says oysters .. it is one oyster . Rack of lamb is 1 cutlet . Lots of light sauces ... edible flowers ... cheese board is 1 slice of cheese ... dessert was strawberries ( no choice )
2 different breads ( small loaves ) were served at the beginning of the meal ( treacle and soda ) to serve as accompaniment throughout...and were needed as tasters were just that .... nicely presented but with little or no sides
Suggest you ring prior to booking .... as quite a variety of foods and sauces ....
Very helpful staff .

No jacuzzi but I think the hot tubs are in use.
I've stayed in this hotel a lot. The Terrace suites are cosy, nice fireplace feature. Small bedroom (but cosy) and another small living room on the other side of the fireplace wall. 2 small balconies with nice views of course, but not the best view in the hotel. What I loved about it was the heated floor in the bathroom! The cliff veranda suite is the next one up. Now that has stunning rooftop views, huge (and I mean huge) bath and double rainfall showers. If I were you I would book the terrace suite, ring the hotel and ask if there's any chance of an upgrade 😉 Hope this was helpful! Enjoy!
