This is a room only rate but each room is equipped and there are many great eateries located beside us. All the rooms have cable TV, tea and coffee making facilities and en-suite with free toiletries, a hairdryer and ironing facilities. Most rooms have a kitchenette with fridges and microwaves provided. As to be expected in a popular location the hubbub of street activity is never far away. Noise is minimal and guests find our rooms spacious, comfortable and a relaxing haven to retreat to after a busy day exploring.

The Oyster catcher was exactly what we wanted travelling with a small pet. Unfortunately the accommodation could do with some renovations .... floor, bed, curtains - which was not an issue for us. Supply of towels and toilet paper was excellent. The cleanliness of the room wasn't up to scratch. Finding past guest s hair clips and roller in various places in the room. The bin under the sink had been emptied and new bin liner in but when we took it out to be more accessible to us the over spill from last guests was there. Spillages on floor from sink to fridge area. The floor could have been swept. The shower head kept falling down...needs a new holder. The towel rail is just about to come away from the wall...
The couch had to be wiped down though that could have been dust coming in the windows.
If ever we were coming back this way we would stay as it was just what we wanted.. just a little more attention to be given to the physical cleaning of the room

I honestly don't think we would ever stay here again. Not a very pleasant welcome in the office to start. Room very basic and actually quite dark even though there were 2 not very clean windows. Curtains could've needed a wash as so the fridge with the cracks and spills on the base. Maybe OK for hens or stags but not 2 older people who like a bit of luxury. Quite expensive for what was offered. Realised could have stayed in a beautiful B&B not much further and got breakfast included. Very disappointing 😡

Checked in for a one night stay recently and was surprised by the quality of the room when we checked in. The bed was huge and very comfortable and the bathroom was clean and modern. Due to current restrictions we spent most of our evening staying in the room with a bottle of wine and really enjoyed the night. We had room 4 on the ground floor which was right beside the street but was still quiet and felt very private. The location is perfect, right in the middle of the town. Would definitely stay again when I go back to Carlingford.

I don't usually complain about places I've stayed in/eaten in but I felt a need to share my experience of this place. Like other reviews have said it is extremely noisey at night but that's understandable given the fact that the town gets a lot of stag and hen parties. It was the attitude of the owner that really annoyed me. I can't tell you what the food is like because I wasn't given a chance to try it! I was with my girlfriend who wasn't feeling very hungry and so only ordered a starter. I ordered a starter and main. A few minutes later the owner came to our table to inform us that we had to spend a minimum of €15 per person to eat there or else we would have to leave. It didn't seem to matter to her that our combined bill came to over €30. I couldn't believe how unreasonable she was, especially given the fact that the restaurant wasn't at all busy at the time. There were only two other couples eating there at the time. Avoid this place!

Response from aine M, Owner at Oystercatcher Lodge
Responded Dec 18, 2012
Review of 28 March2012. This review is about the Bistro which is under seperate management to the Lodge. I will not comment. The lodge is a village centre lodge and this offers great convenience as a dirving is not a requirement. ( we have private parking) However our central location can be noisey on Saturday nights during the Summer season. Should you wish to get an early night perhaps a location outside the vilage would be better. Again I emphasise that this is a Saturday night problem only and those participating in the enjoyment do not seem to have a problem

I was booked into the lodge on the 19th July. The booking was made 2 months in advance. It was fully confirmed. The date was for my Birthday. Friends were meeting me & my partner in Carlingford, for a meal & drinks.
However, just before we were to leave in the afternoon, the Owner contacted 'Booking.com', to say she was fully booked. She even admitted that she knew she was fully booked, several weeks before. However, she decided to wait, till an hour before we got there, to let us know. We could not get alternative accommodation anywhere else. My friends, were already in the village. I had to cancel! This is bad business, underhanded, rude, & just not very nice.

I stayed at the Oyster Catcher lodge with my son and was not impressed. We arrived on Friday evening having travelled for four hours. The room was spacious but freezing cold. We also stayed on the Saturday night which turned out to be a complete nightmare. Unfortunately we had not realised that Carlingford is set up for Hen Nights and Stags. We went to bed early as we had to get up early the following morning for a sporting competition. The nightmare started at around midnight with revellers spilling out onto the streets. The noise was unbearable and lasted until around 4:30am the following morning. At no time was the reception manned and there was no place to make a complaint. The total cost was €120 for one cold nights sleep. Not a happy lodger :(

Our booking was for two nights but due to the facilities and the attitude of the operators of the b&b we did not stay a 2nd night.

The room was in an appalling condition. In particular, there was just one switch to operate the single ceiling light that worked in the room. Neither reading light beside the bed worked and the only switch that turned on the single ceiling light was located at the entrance to the room.

The room was cold and damp. The single radiator was not on when we arrived and quickly went off as it was on a timer.

The only window in the room was single glazed and had mould on it.

The tiling on the floor on the bathroom was stained and dirty.

The room we were assigned was on the ground floor to the side of the building directly on the street.

The reason we were assigned this room is surprising given that the front part of the building as shown on the website  and in other promotional material appeared to be unused.

There was also no evidence of a 'bistro' as advertised, which is misleading.

As we were assigned a ground floor room directly opposite the front door, we were subjected to loud knocking on the window at night together with knocking at the door. Whilst the owners obviously cannot control the behaviour of other guests, a room on the first floor or away from the street would immediately ameliorate the noise and potential disturbances experienced.

When we arrived and discovered the poor conditions, we contacted Denise by phone. She provided no remedy other than suggesting if we weren't happy we could seek alternative accommodation in the hotel across the road. This was exceptionally difficult given that it was 10:30pm.

The following morning we decided to leave immediately and sought to return the key to Denise. She did not answer but the other owner who did not introduce himself, took the key and confirmed he was aware that we had stayed in the "worst room in the b&b". Instead of offering a simple apology, he launched into an insulating tirade that shocked both myself and my husband.

The purpose of this review is to notify potential customers especially those from abroad to this poor premises.

The rooms we had all had showers. We had a ground floor room but the shower itself isn't accessible for wheelchairs. There was another ground floor room so it may be.
