This place is absolutely gorgeous. You can hire a tour from Xela, or you can take any chicken bus to Zunil and every person in town will offer you a ride to the springs.
I wish we had booked a night in the cabins on-site....More
Water really wasn't that hot nor clear. The surrounding area was beautiful but so are numerous other places in Guatemala that don't cost 8 dollars per person. In used to Central America. I've been here for a year so it's not a case of applying...More
The town is surrounded by mountains but is great. We visited with the intent to see the fabric market; which by the way is where most of Guatemala's textiles come from. We missed it because of Santa Semana which was bloody marvelous.
I normally find hot springs totally overrated and usually don't bother going to these kinds of attractions anymore.... but we had an extra day and decided to go to Fuentes Georginas. So glad we did, it is absolutely beautiful and so relaxing. They have kept...More
So, we were promised a natural paradise by a Guatemalan friend. And I guess if you squinted, you could totally see it that way. The pools are a wonder, but they simply aren't kept up very well. There were some yucky moments, like finding a...More

We also found other visitors where great fun. We spent a lot of time with a family from Israel, with dinner and chats in the restaurant.
It is cold and humid at night, and while the restaurant workers will offer to light a fire in the room, we found the wood so damp that nothing helped. I had some hand sanitizer that is primarily alcohol, and squirted that on the wood and we had a good fire for the night. There is also an in-suite hot tub with water fresh from the mountain. But there is no cell phone signal, television, or internet. I suppose if you had a computer with some DVDs you would enjoy it, but I found the bed was wonderful and after a lot of time in the hot water, I slept really well.
I hope you consider your New Years in this area. It would be a night to remember, no matter what. Bring some candles for the hot tub, some music and enjoy.
