The Kimpton Hotel Palomar Phoenix Cityscape generally receives compliments for its cleanliness and professional staff, though a few guests suggest a need for more thorough updates. While the amenities, including the dining options and pool, are appreciated by many, some guests feel they are not up-to-date and dislike additional charges. The spacious rooms are a hit for some reviewers, but others have encountered cleanliness issues and outdated decor.
The hotel's vibrant atmosphere and central location are popular among travelers, but concerns about safety and value for money are noted, with criticisms about high rates and hidden fees. Overall, staff service garners positive remarks, even if a few travelers report inconsistent experiences.

Detailed Reviews
My husband and I stayed here for the weekend with the sole intention of sitting and drinking by the pool all day. The front desk agent was fantastic when we checked in, she was very friendly, helpful and efficient. Our room was very spacious and the bathroom was amazing. There is a huge shower enclosure with a huge bathtub next to a shower area. The bed was comfy and the room was clean. So, with coronavirus, there’s no daily housekeeping, so it would’ve been nice if they put more than two bath towels in the bathroom for a multiple night stay. The pool area is not very huge but it’s pretty good size for being on the roof, which is always fun. The cabanas were sold out but we got to the pool early to snag some lounge chairs in the shade. A portion of the pool is covered by the edge of pool so it was nice to be in the shade all day. The Lustre bar at the pool didn’t have very much of a beer selection and the one beer we wanted was out of stock. It was frustrating and the waitress said there was no place else in the property with it either. Since they have such a small selection of beers it would sure be nice if they were all in stock. Besides that issue, service at the pool was very slow. There was also a horrendous smell most of the day by the pool and inside the hallways (supposedly they were cleaning out their grease traps?). So we definitely didn’t have the day by the pool that we had envisioned. So, overall, the amenities were great, the service was mostly great throughout the property, and the problems we encountered seemed to be temporary hiccups. The location is great, with a lot of great restaurant options within easy walking distance and you’re very close to Chase Field and the Suns arena.
I would definitely consider staying here again in the future, if for no reason other than the bathtub/shower combo and the location of the hotel.

Traveling to Phoenix nearly always promises sunshine and warmth, and in the outskirts, there are some amazing resorts. Imagine our surprise to find a fantastic escape in the middle of downtown! We did a quick overnight stay at the Kimpton Hotel Palomar and were surprised and delighted throughout. Access to the hotel is incredibly easy – and cheap! – from the airport. The train is just a quick walk from the Terminal and a super easy PHX Skytrain ride to the 44thSt/Washington station and a whole $3 each for the trip. The Palomar is right around the corner. If you don't have a lot of bags, it’s better than a Lyft or Uber ride that the estimate said would be under $20 but upon arrival was over $40 with tip. Once we got to the hotel, we had fantastic service at every turn: from check in to the pool and bar to the downstairs restaurant for Happy Hour to checkout. We opted for an email upgrade offer for a suite – paid with points for the stay – and ended up being in a massive suite on the 9th Floor. Natalie at the front desk took care of us with kindness and care. The suite had two full bathrooms, a huge bedroom area at one end and an even larger living room at the other end, it was fantastic. Great downtown views as well. One bathroom had a large soaking tub that would fit two and it was encased in the shower area – a first for us. We immediately ventured to the 3rd floor rooftop pool. While there was limited sun, we did find a spot to soak in the rays. The bar offer was a first as well: an adult Carpi Sun -type drink in a large plastic bag with a stray to puncture to drink! It was fruity and delicious. The service, from Michael at the pool bar, was again first rate. What a great person. Happy hour at the Blue Hound downstairs was great and service was top rate. We loved the Brussel Sprouts! We found the pool the next morning at 9 am was drenched in sunshine – that’s the key. Being an Ambassador Spire Elite gave us a late checkout and the trip back to the airport via the train was fast and easy. The GM here (Jeremy Wilhide) should be congratulated for assembling a first-rate staff that rose above and beyond even during COVID. We could come again in a heartbeat and HIGHLY recommend this easy escape from the PacNW to all of our friends and family!

Stayed there for one night to get out of the house/isolation. The hotel staff made us feel safe from the get go. Cody at the front desk was so accommodating and ensured us about all the safety precautions in placed for the guests. They are still doing the wine hour (thank goodness - one of the things I love about Kimpton hotel) but you just get a drink from the front desk.
Cody also helped us to navigate the parking situation. It was easy once you can get to the right entrance:) plenty of food and dining options within walking distance. We got take outs and enjoyed them in our room.
The server at the pool was very pleasant as well and always disinfecting after every guest. We appreciate that.
Overall, a great stay and can’t wait to return!

Let’s start with the positives. The location is excellent and the staff at the front desk was welcoming and very pleasant to interact with. I really appreciated the service aspect of this hotel. The free coffee on the second floor was delicious and a nice touch. But the hotel itself has an artificial scent that is so overpowering and unpleasant that I wanted to spend as little time in the lobby/hallway/common areas as possible. I hope management sees this comment and completely eliminates that foul citrusy scent from its hotel profile. I haven’t experienced anything like it (at least in the United States). The other thing I wanted to mention was the noise. As other commenters have remarked, there is a very loud ice skating rink down below the hotel and the music they play, combined with the acoustics, makes relaxing in your room virtually impossible. Guests should remember to pack earplugs, just for sitting in the room. The skating ends at 11 pm so it doesn’t interfere with sleeping as much, but this is a definite strike against a $300/night hotel. Which brings me to my final gripe: the bottled water scam. You’d think that at $300 bucks a night they could manage free water in the room. But no, in order to get free water you have to agree to completely give up HOUSEKEEPING for the duration of your stay. It’s a total scam, and beneath the dignity of a so-called upscale hotel. How about housekeeping and free water? Other nice hotels manage to do it, I don’t see why Kimpton cannot. I can’t imagine it would make a dent in the bottom line, especially considering the price of a nights stay here. Overall, I had higher expectations for Kimpton hotels. Hopefully they can rethink a few of their approaches to hospitality to make it more customer friendly for future guests.

Hi Steve-O1974, Thank you for taking the time to provide comments about your most recent stay. I was excited to read about the great service that you received from our team. We place a high level of importance on this area of the guest experience, and to read about your happiness with this part of the stay is great! In regards to some of the opportunities I appreciate the feedback. We use this as a platform to take what our guests say and improve all aspects of your journey with us. We will look at our Kimpton Scent. This is not common of the feedback that we receive. We are known for the scent throughout Kimpton as we try to create a warm connection throughout the stay using all of your senses, smell being one of them. Lastly, I understand your frustration with the water in the room. We do offer it as a perk when participating in our Green Choice program. However, we have alternative water stations throughout the property with and without fruit for your enjoyment. It is my hope we may have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future for an improved stay. Warm regards, Nathan Assistant General Manager

This place should be ideal, it's in a great spot for what is a downtown Phoenix location, weather was chilly for us phoenicians so the ice rink was up,which was fun and the ambiance around the place was on point. The hotel lacked in so many ways it's hard to pinpoint the worse downfalls. The "rooftop bar" is on the 3rd floor. I'd love to report on the view but we were screamed at by a guy mopping that the floor was closed at 9pm. So we went to the 2nd floor restaurant, we asked about the outdoor bar and were told..."we dont have our staff out in 30 degree weather". It was 46 degrees and hasn't been in the 30s for a bit now. So we asked about getting to just see the view from the pool. the young blond woman, who looked to maybe be a manager, barked at us "try it tomorrow when the sun is up". Front desk staff was nice but everyone else we ran across was super rude and overall out stay was disappointing. I will not stay here again nor will I recommend it to anyone else.

I emailed them a few times with no response so I thought I’d post it hear.
I had a great stay. Staff was outstanding.
I would have happily paid $25 more a night to stay at the hotel, but to be surprised by a $25 a night fee just leaves me feeling sour. Especially when even if I wanted to take advantage of any of the amenities I had not idea they were available. I overheard someone talking about the $10 a day credit so that’s good but I had no idea we could use the gym or utilize any of the other services, most of which seemed a little like filler...free long distance calls and faxing? Welcome to 2020😀.
I’d make sure the check in staff is not skipping explaining the amenity policy. And, since I paid for the booking through a third party there was no info listed about the amenity policy. I would think the hotel could dictate that 3rd parties must post information about it to avoid sour reactions from future guests.
I did enjoy my stay but I would be lying if I said I didn’t have some irritation about this issue.
A $30 a day parking fee is not surprising downtown, but $25 fee a day on top of that? But with more transparency I probably would have accepted it.

I'll start by saying that the customer service was great! From valet, to check in to room service. However, it was the Corner Suite that was disappointing. The suite is spacious and upon walking in, I was impressed by the city views. I was also impressed by the very large shower with Japanese soaking tub. But that's where I stopped being impressed I went to relax on the living room sofa and it truly felt like outdoor patio furniture. It was vinyl (no I'm not kidding) and the cushions were sunken in making the seating uneven on parts of the sectional. Let's not mention, how cold and uncomfortable to the skin this vinyl was. I opted to watch TV from the bedroom instead.
I decided to use the amazing soaking tub to relax before bed, I slipped on the bath robe provided and whoa, there was a huge hole in the middle of the sleeve. How was this missed, and why was it made available for use instead of tossed? Ok, no big deal right? Until I got into bed...a couple things I noticed. The black stitching that borders the top of the white comforter was terribly frayed and/or missing. The pillows were lumpy and felt like they were filled with large foam beads. And sadly, the mattress was probably one of the
most uncomfortable hotel mattresses I've slept on in quite a while.
Then there's room service for breakfast. Upon several other things, I ordered a side of breakfast potatoes. I was told by the woman who took the order that the potatoes were roasted with peppers. Well, not only did the potatoes NOT have peppers or onions or anything of the such, they were lukewarm and very dry.
This hotel is centrally located Downtown, so I was very surprised at the lack of attention to detail that I experienced. So bottom line, I'd give service 4 stars but accommodations 2.5.

A brand new Kimpton in downtown Phoenix in the center of things sharing a sparkling high rise building with condos. We stayed for two nights in January for a mini winter break from snow and cold. We had a corner king on the 5th floor.
Like other Kimptons we’ve visited, the Palomar has a young hip vibe with pulsing music and a young staff. There’s also a nice pool on the third floor along with a poolside bar (Lustre) and a restaurant.
Our room had modern furnishings but wasn’t as interesting design-wise as some of their other properties we’ve visited in Portland or Palm Springs. this one seemed much more subdued in character. The bathroom was grand in size but surprisingly had only a single vanity (one demerit) and the shower didn’t have a door, just partial glass wall so water tender to spray out into the room-I found this design shortcut slightly annoying as instead of a warm cozy delight it’s more like showering in a drafty locker room.
As with all the kimptons, I’m always pleased with the friendly attentive service at the front desk and valet stand. Whoever is in charge of hiring these front of house spots knows what they are doing. The front desk person commented on my notation of my wife’s birthday and later, when we got back, there was a bottle of sparkling wine in the room which was thoughtful.
My wife liked the bed and their were plenty of pillows too. Location-wise this would be a great spot if attending an event at one of the nearby arenas and stadiums, otherwise the here wasn’t too much of note. There’s a Frys (grocery) across the street and a CVS one block up which came in handy too.
Bottom line, nice new hotel with a great staff.

We chose this hotel due to its close proximity to Chase Field since we were catching a weekend baseball game.
It didn't disappoint.
It had a very upscale, modern feel. The hotel offers many extras such as free wine in the evenings. I think I even saw some guests checking out bicycles.
The rooftop pool was nice. Perhaps it was the holiday weekend, but when we visited the pool, it felt more like a college party than a relaxing atmosphere. My 9-year old still enjoyed himself, but just be aware that it can get crowded depending on time of day. Also, since the pool was elevated, I definitely felt the wind, which made the water feel that much colder.
As of the end of May, the hotel is only offering housekeeping by request. However, the times I did request they were very timely.
Lastly, the hotel is part of a larger downtown development with office buildings and restaurants. Because of this, the parking garage is technically separated from the hotel, though it's a short walk away. Keep this in mind if you tend to run late to things, as it may make sense for you to opt for valet. The attached restaurant offers brunch, but The Breakfast Club, which is right outside the hotel offers breakfast/lunch and opens at 7am.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights a little staycation with my wife celebrating our 5 year anniversary. We arrived late our first night after having a rough day and breaking my Note20 Ultra & getting that to the shop to get repaired and running around some other errands.. the hotel is really cool I didn't get to check in until 11:30 p.m. had no issues they had a room guaranteed for me as well as I used to reward nights and didn't have to pay a dime for our room from March 22-23 and then on March 24th my wife and I woke up pretty early and the day went by very quick next thing you know it was almost time to check out at noon I texted the hotels texting number and asked if I could get an extended checkout because we wanted to stay a little longer and the first night was pretty much over when we arrived at the hotel and their receptionist was fairly quick at responding and asked what time I wanted to check out and I said as late as possible since the first day we missed pretty much the whole thing, as I was waiting for the response I got a response saying that we could stay until 4:00 p.m. which was more time that I thought I would be able to have.. this hotel definitely has very friendly receptionists that have a lot of class and are very respectful. Ended up taking a little nap and then woke up at 3:00 starting to pack up and then the wife and I decided we should stay another night if they still had availability. Call down to the front desk and asked if we could just pay for the night and then extend our staycation one more night for our anniversary which they more than went out of the way to make sure we got a room. Definitely one of the better hotels I have stayed at and if I ever wanted to get away again and have a nice hotel that isn't too pricey I would definitely come to this hotel first..
Thank you Kimpton Palomar Hotel for the High class, very friendly, & beautiful staycation for my wife & I. We wouldn't have had a better time if it wasn't for your very professional & friendly staff!
