This is my second visit to El Calafate and this time we stayed at this nice small hotel. Well located, but not at the noisy San Martin avenue , is close to the begining of the Laguna de Torre tráil and to the well known restaurant “La Tapera”. Part of the hotel has new and bigger rooms but the original ones are fine. Bathrooms hace a good size also. Staff was really nice and helpful . Breakfast provided a good range of options. I will come back!

Please avoid the Hotel Kalken at all costs! The rooms face busy streets and the noise level is loud, loud, loud, especially when the bars let out at 2am. Then, take a shower at your own risk as it took me 10 minutes to figure how to get the knobs adjusted so I didn't scald myself. The sheets felt like they had never been cleaned. The safe existed in the closet, however there was no locking mechanism. We checked out and headed to a new hotel after one night.

Average hotel. Nice staff. Average breakfast. Reasonable location. Rooms are very warm even when you turn the heat off. Walls are damaged. There isn't a real restaurant just a kitchen .so they fix breakfast and lunch boxes and a set dinner of the day .

Very basic hotel. We had planned our trip late and this was the only room in town we could book for the week of New Years. We had one issue when on New Years Eve after an all day hike they locked us out of our room (extremely unprofessional, rude and aggressive) in order to have us move into another room to do repairs. Imagine on New Years Eve before getting ready for a holiday: pack all your stuff and move!! When I asked for a discount for the inconvenience they decided they didn't need to repair anything.... Otherwise the hotel was again basic and if not very bare of furnishings, bare floors and walls. Breakfast gets a C grade.

Stayed for 3 nights in 2 rooms. Wifi was adequate. Breakfast was from 6:30-1AM - more like a continental breakfast but they did offer scrambled eggs. It was a bit tricky regulating the water temperature - hot/cold dials - but water pressure was adequate. No screens on the windows so if you open them to moderate temperature, you could get a fly or two. Housekeeping was solid. Front desk was helpful (restaurant recommendations, booking a taxi to the airport, confirming our excursion pickup). You will most likely be out early in the morning and back in the evening to clean up before heading into town for dinner. As a result, your time in your room is nominal - just to sleep and that's about the best way to get through your stay. If you come during the holidays. expect to pay holiday sized rates!

Service was nice, price is fair but rooms were not so clean. Breakfast was cool but I didn’t like there wasn’t dinner or meal available at the afternoon. It is located very near the central street so I would say location is the best

We read so many reviews and looked at so many places it was hard to know what to choose for our family of four. We landed at the Kalken on Dec 08 and was met by Carolina. She was welcoming and kind our entire stay. She booked restaurants for us and helped us enjoy our time in El Calafate. In the morning Belen was at the desk to help with excursions and choices. Nadia took good care of us at breakfast. The hotel is clean, the breakfast plentiful and the coffee was excellent. Though the Kalken isn’t fancy it was perfect for our stay. We were eating dinner most night at 930 and falling into bed at midnight. Well rested we were ready for the next days adventure. We would recommend the Kalken!

I strongly recommend this Hotel that I booked almost last minute at a very convenient price last April, on my way to Perito Moreno and the Glaciers Park. Somewhat old country style but very kind service, adorable reception and very satisfying breakfast. The guy at the concierge even speaks fluent italian! IN Patagonia! Not luxury but clean and well located. Strongly recommended.

The hotel is average minus. I will not stay again. Pros: Great location Public areas are very nice Staff was friendly enough Cons: The rooms are pretty dirty: the carpet is stained and dirty and the color is lost long time ago; the bathroom curtains had blood stains The room was otherwise minimal without basic items and wasn’t convenient. We went to a coffee shop to read because we didn’t enjoy staying in the room. I will not stay here ever again.
