We were traveling by bus from Bariloche to Puerto Madryn and this town was a place to take a break. The room was quite spacious and comfortable. We originally booked two nights via a 3rd party but the bus heading to the coast wasn't leaving until about 10:00pm so we booked a third night so we'd have somewhere to be. The breakfast was very minimal. The restaurant itself was only being used by a group when we checked in and not open for dinner. The connecting cafe' from the lobby wasn't great either. The wi-fi wasn't constant. The staff were excellent and provided that 3rd day at the originally booked rate. The bath sheets were terrific. It was pretty warm, after reading another TA review I wish I'd requested a fan.

Hotel is definently not 3 stars. Room is indeed old, remote control is taped to not fall apart, and the breakfast is terrible and more simple then my dogs food. Only the shower is normal. Not social at all for international visitors. We came here after we almost flooded in Comodoro Rivadavia. We went to the aduana (duane) because the paper of our rental car was expired but nobody of the hotel or aduana could help us and we were sent away. Go see for yourself they said. We will NEVER go back to this city and or hotel. Or might even this country.

This property is right in the heart of Esquel, has the old world charm of a byegone era (every towel and piece of crockery is branded with Hotel Sol Del Sur) and the Confeteria on the ground floor is open throughout the day and evening. An important consideration if you need/want to eat before 9 or 10 at night! It was surprisingly warm when I stayed and staff delivered a fan to my room, large enough to fly me out of town! Breakfast was served on the top floor, in a ballroom-sized space with orange carpet and curtains and very tall windows through which the mountains can be seen. A bonus unexpected.

Pros - good location in the centre of Esquel, comfy bed, could pay on credit card. Cons - old and tired, could do with refurbishment, wifi didn't work in room, breakfast not much to write home about (although fairly standard for Argentina). We got a parking ticket for parking outside the hotel - when we paid the fine we were told we could have bought tickets from the hotel to display but they never mentioned this!

First, it is not expensive and almost at the same price level as some cabanas. Secondly, the rooms are not new either (linens ok though), but spacious and we slept ok, just the heating was too much for a not so cold evening. Thirdly, it's right in downtown. All together, it is not that bad, 3 stars really. The only detail hard to swallow was the breakfast, from far it looks plentiful, but it was difficult to get something that could be considered "fresh and tasty".
