#2 of 128 hotels in Cape Town Central
Travelers' Choice
In a city renowned for hospitality, Derwent House stands out as one of Cape Town's leading boutique guesthouses. Located in the heart of the vibrant Tamboerskloof/Gardens neighbourhood, this small hotel combines historic charm, contemporary Afro-chic style and all mod-cons for a uniquely Capetonian blend of ambience, warmth, and comfort. Our wonderful team completes the picture -- we go the extra mile for you and our guests leave as friends. We love colour and celebrate African design - you'll find it everywhere. But when it comes to the basics - like breakfast, bedding, showers, climate control, Wi-fi or news from home - we don't compromise so you don't have to. At Derwent House, you're steps away from the hustle and buzz of Kloof Street, with its collection of superb restaurants, bars and trendy boutiques--and just a few further to the nightlife hub of Bree and Long Streets. Yet just a short car journey from the Table Mountain cable car, the beaches of Clifton or Camp's Bay, and the V&A Waterfront. There's nowhere more central -- but come and see for yourself. We're waiting for you!

Having been to Cape Town numerous times I can’t think of a reason you wouldn’t want to stay at Derwent House. Amazing accommodation, perfect location, great restaurants and bars on your doorstep and the personal touch. If it’s food and wine, hiking, chilling by the pool, exploring the city or wanting the staff to take care of your every need then this place really does tick every box. I’ve stayed before and I’ll be back again very soon!

This boutique upmarket guest house is set in a residential street close to the main attractions of Cape Town. The stle of decor is eclectic African - colourful and vibrant An inner courtyard has a sparkling swimming pool along with a hot tub The property was spotlessly clean, and all Co-Vid protocol were being observed, but without feeking in any way restrictive. Meticulous attention to detail, an eagerness to please, and luxurious environment make this the ideal base for a trip to Cape Town. The staff all go out of their way to ensure guests are happy, helping with restaurant reservations, co-vid tests, and shopping advice. Would rather have kept this luxury guest house as my personal secret, but the staff and management deserve to be praised on a more public platform !

Our very favourite home from home. There is nowhere in the world we would rather be than enjoying wonderful hospitality in our favourite boutique hotel. As the many reviews suggest this is the place to come if you want the personal touches, a helpful Team to look after you, wonderful breakfast, a cozy beautiful lounge area and a lovely pool & jacuzzi, it's also a very convenient location for fine local restaurants etc Returning here (it's our 6th stay ) due to the global pandemic presented its challenges but the three hour PCR test at the airport made it possible after the U.K. Government removed it from the red list, hooray! We feel safer here than we would at home right now. Sorry I have to go and have some of the delicious complimentary cake with a cup of tea, it's a carrot cake today home from home indeed. I hope you get the chance to come here & enjoy it as much as we do.

From the moment we arrived at Derwent House we felt very welcome. The staff made us feel home right away with an outstanding service. Every morning at breakfast Luca gave us a personal advice how to explore the city. Also the location of the hotel is perfect to visit the table mountain or to go to a restaurant by foot. Very pleasant and save neighborhood! Thank you for the lovely stay!

My husband and I stayed for 2 weeks in the “beautiful room”. This hotel is really the most amazing. So much attention to small details and making us feel “at home”. Its pretty impressive and of course that has a lot to do with the owners, but Luca, one of the managers really made our stay. I felt like besides being a very likable guy, he was always willing to help out in anyway possible. I don’t think I have ever stayed everywhere quite like it.

Response from Derwent owners, Owner at Derwent House Boutique Hotel

Thanks so much, kathy s, for this compelling heartfelt review--you've made Luca blush 😊. Indeed, our team is truly exceptional and it's feedback like yours that's earned us the top spot for service in South Africa for the past 5 years on this platform. Your kind words are incredibly motivating for the whole team and we're so grateful. You two became like family over your extended stay--and although sorry that your onward journey was scuttled by Mr Johnson's travel restrictions, we were delighted to have you with us for another week, most especially for our "Stranded Make the Best of It" Braai . . . What a fun evening with all of you. Thank you again for your lovely post from the whole team (but especially Luca)! Glad you got home safely and we hope to see you again one day--with a bit less drama!! Warm regards, Anahid
