Writing this review from the elegantly set breakfast room at the Quarters hotel after a two night stay. Every single staff member went out of their way to make my stay pleasant from the security guard to the front desk staff. Bonnie the lady at the breakfast area was especially accommodating and wonderful. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the shower was fantastic. The breakfast far exceeded my expectations. This hotel is real value with five star service that you would get a posh hotel like the Vineyard in Cape Town or the Saxon in Johannesburg for the fraction of the price. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

My partner and I had the pleasure of a recent two-night stay at the Quarters. I had been to this lovely boutique hotel in the past for a dinner and a lunch and was always impressed. I was unsure how the hotel had weathered the Covid storm and was also concerned about noise levels on Florida Road. I am pleased to say that neither were an issue. The Quarters is as elegant and calming as ever and we did not hear any Florida Road noise on Friday or Saturday night. There was a nearby prayer service on Sunday morning but thankfully it was not too early.

From the friendly security guard to the welcoming reception staff, from the polite and helpful waiters and porters, we were made to feel very welcome. I must single out Kelly who was particularly helpful, professional and supportive when we needed to secure an additional room at short notice.

All in all, it was a really comfortable and enjoyable stay at a deserved Durban landmark and I will continue to recommend Quarters to those visiting the city.

Good accommodation with large bed in a good sized room. Very good breakfast in thier restaurant, you could eat in the open air or inside. Excellent evening meal. The staff were polite and helpful. The reception ladies especially helpful with things to do and places to go. Also help with photos etc. Excellent hotel in Durban.

We started our SA holiday here in order to catch the (rained off) cricket. This is a lovely colonial hotel set in the "posh" bit of Durban. The staff were fantastic, particularly Ryan, who went out of his way to offer advice on things to do and see, order transport and provide a packed breakfast for our 4:30am departure. The hotel is next to a busy road but this didn't trouble us. If you're in town for a couple of days, this is a fine base to explore from.

I live in Durban and have not physically slept over at Quarters - but have been there many a time and have checked the rooms. I would much prefer a new tourist to South Africa to experience this quaint hotel than end up in one of the Marine Parade Hotels or on our Durban Beach front! Like every town has its horrible areas the two above are the only ones I would like tourists to avoid, as my rule of thumb is dont send people to areas you do not wish to visit. The rest of Durbs and surrounding areas is awesome.

The Berea is a very central quaint suburb close to all interesting places and will set the tone for a wonderful South African experience. The restaurant is great, service as good and it is in the trendy area of Durban where all the whos who in the zoo meet . The restaurants within walking distance are the best to be found. We visit this hotel often. You wont be let down.

We stayed at Quarters for three nights. The hotel had a very pleasant atmosphere. The small bar was great for a night cap and the restaurant was very good.

We preferred the area to that of the hotels on the beach. There was a catering college restaurant within a five minute walk on the main road where we had one of the best lunches ever at a very reasonable cost.

I'm always using tripadvisor so decided to write back about my experience. I LOVED the Quarters. Great service - can you believe they packed my breakfast b/c my flight was very early in the morning? Never heard of anything like that. The room is very comfortable, bathroom is excellent. Only one issue: was staying with a friend and there are no rooms with two beds. Ok! They provided an extra single bed. The restaurant is FANTASTIC. Service is more than great. I needed to buy a bottle of a specific wine for my father and they located one place that had this wine and took care of everything for me. I ended up buying a whole box of this rare wine b/c they found it for me. Location, location, location. Very near very good restaurants and safe place to walk around. All my friends staying in the area where most hotels are were regreting their choice (this was a big conference) when they saw the Quarters. If you go to Durban, stay at the Quarters Hotel.

The Location is very good, whilst on a busy intersection, the hotel room was very quiet. The room was spacious, well appointed, clean and very well serviced. The personnel at the front desk were very friendly as were the restaurant and bar staff. The Breakfast menu covered all of my favourites - especially Lola's breakfast.

The hotel is a bit run down but the friendly staff makes it a good option. The wireless works fine in the rooms, the restaurant has an OK variety of options with good taste. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance.

Negatives are the lack of heating in the room (a bit chilly in early Aug), no ironing board, no minibar, rather small and run down rooms.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights while I was running Comrades Marathon. While being close to restaurants and pubs on Florida Road, it seemed a tranquil place if you are looking for some peace and quiet. The room was large, pleasant and comfortable with decent wifi, effective and virtually invisible housekeeping and good security. Only real criticism was the noisy plumbing and a vague unpleasant smell in the bathroom.

Staff were excellent and helped out quickly with various issues. They produced a good packed pre-run breakfast at 4am and offered a shuttle to the start as there were several runners staying. The regular breakfast was varied and tasty.

It is a hotel where having a car is useful as it is maybe 2km from the beach, and the parking is secure. However the proliferation of good bars and restaurants nearby mean that you would not rack up too big a taxi bill without a vehicle.
