We really enjoyed our stay at Mrs May Kieu’s homestay! Don’t forget to try the herbal bath which gives you the best night sleep! Totally worth it to see how the locals live! Highly Recommended! If you are struggling to book the homestay online try to email or whatsapp as seen in her attached card!
We are five friends and we stayed with ms May for one night (two full days). The first day with had a trekking tour on the mountains and through the forest. The second day we went for a walk around the fields and we helped plant some corn and bean seeds. They cooked very nice food for us and the hospitality was great. They also offered a herbal bath in hot water and traditional sewing lessons. overall experience perfect!
I stayed with May Kieu and her family my first night on a solo motorbike tour through North Vietnam. She came and met me at a coffee shop in downtown Sapa and then I drove the motorbike with her guiding me to beautiful waterfalls and to her friends house where we had a delicious meal and helped pick squash. It was really interesting to be the only foreigner for lunch where they all spoke there native language which is different than Vietnamese. Although I couldn't speak we all enjoyed eachothers' company and May Kieu would translate for me occasionally and answer my questions in English. We then drove to the central market to look at traditional hemp fabrics and then went to her homestay in Ta Phin Village. I enjoyed a meal with her family and a Bath in Hot herbal tea which was so relaxing. The next morning I had to leave to continue on to my next destination. Staying with May Kieu and her family was really fun for me. They were so kind, excited about my curiosity, quick to answer my questions and they fed me very well. I would totally recommend anyone whether alone or with a group to stay with May Kieu and to learn about the beautiful culture of the people living in Ta Phin and other villages around Sapa. Such a beautiful way of life and way of connecting as a community. Inspired me a lot.…
We had such a nice trekkingtrip with Mrs. Kieu. She can show us a lot of her traditional knowledge. We saw, how you can make tofu, learnd something about traditionell funerals and how you can earn food. The homestay is modest but clean and close to the nature. The whole host family was very welcoming. Only the matrasse could have been a little bit softer. We can recommend this accommodation!
I stayed in this homestay with my guide. The first night I was the only guest and they made me feel so special. I got a real insight into the Vietnamese culture and ways. They were so giving of their knowledge. The food was delicious! The second night here, they made us each a herbal bath, after dinner, which was absolutely perfect for relaxing after 5 days on a motorbike, or trekking is some people’s cases. The beds are very hard, but other than that, I had the best experience here! This is why I travel, to get in touch with the locals and this family gave me that! Thank you!
it was so nice to stay with May Kieu family. Spent there for 1 night with 2 full days trekking. Good english speaking guide, good food, good rice wine homemade from their family. We can cook together, learn to make pring rolled. Took herbal bath for free:))). The view of Sapa is beautiful and we stayed in Taphin village is less touristic area. We will comeback oneday soon. Thank you May Kieu family.
We had a chance encounter with May in Hanoi and decided to visit their homestay. Best decision. We stayed 3days/2nights. So nice to escape the hectic pace of Hanoi and Sapa and get an insight into the families village life. They were so accommodating to all our requests, organising a motorbike for a day, and hiking on the last day. Would highly recommend. Thank you to the family for their hospitality.
We spent 3 days, 2 nights in May Kieu's Homestay and we really enjoyed! The family is really friendly and organised everything for us. They picked us up in Lao Cai railway station early morning . We went to Bac Ha synday Market with a driver that they had booked in advance and had a tour in the area, to finally go to their village close to Sapa. Next day we rented Motobike to visit different villages around Sapa. Last day, we did a trek with May, it was so beautiful. Best part of our holidays. We recommend! JC and Raquel
We loved to became part of the family. We stayed one night at May's place and had great fun, we learnt a lot about Red Dao's culture. We felt home so we came back again for one more time before we left Sapa. I enjoyed a rewarming herbal bath which make your skin so soft. The food was really good and the view on the mountains so rewarding after full day of motorbike. May's is a beautiful soul as her mother, as we say "telle mere, telle fille". I recommend definitively this place which I hope will keep all its charming side. Thanks to our Red Dao family, we will see you again for sure in the future. Un coup de coeur for you guys and Taphin, this beautiful village in the mountains.
After checking review on TA, I booked 4 nights with Perfume (the host), and everything was confirmed clearly in our email. She asked us which train & cabin, arrival time & promised to pick us up at Lao Cai train station. When we arrived at 6:15am, we didn't see her. So I called her and she said she couldn't pick us up & we had to take bus to Sapa, her sister will pick us up at bus terminal. But next bus is 8am, we decided to take mini-van. A driver offered to take us to Sapa at US$5 for 3 of us. When I'm following the minivan driver to his car, I received Perfume's call. She said she will send someone to pick us up at train station & will be here in 5 mins because she lives nearby. After waiting for 30 mins, a lady showed up with a scooter. She looked unfriendly and didn't speak at all, she signalled us to bring all our luggage outside train station to a cafe 100 metre away, opposite to the bus stop. Then we realized she's here only to show us where the bus is, but not pick us up. She asked the cafe lady to look after us and left. At that time, all mini-van already gone & taxi too expensive, leaving us no choice & had to take bus. It was 7:15am, but next bus will leave at 8am. Perfume told us her sister will pick us up at bus terminal & promised to pay for the bus. Then we when arrived at bus terminal in Sapa, a guy came and grabbed our luggage and asked us to follow him. I don't know him & it was supposed to be Perfume's sister to pick us up, not a guy. I called Perfume again, she said her sister is not free & told us to follow that guy instead. So we followed him. The guy tried to get us to walk with all our heavy luggage (3 big suitcases & 3 bags) and walk long way in the rain & freezing cold (only 3 deg C). We thought "The homestay is 30 mins away on car, he wanted to walk there with all the heavy luggages??" I told him we need a car. So he took taxi, but not to May Kieu Homestay, instead to a small & very shabby boutique hotel nearby called Sapa Hotel Travel (which belongs to her sister), and asked us to check in. We were so puzzled! What's all this about?? We didn't want to stay there. So I called Perfume why she tried to make us stay in a place not booked by us. She said I can go other place if I don't like. Of course I don't like! It was already almost 10am. 3.5 hours after arrived train station and we were still unresolved about our stay. Luckily it wasn't peak season & we found another nice homestay. Perfume's English is perfect in both email & spoken on phone, definitely no misunderstanding in our communication. I don't understand how she can treat a customer like this?!!!…
