My husband and I stayed at Butte's Bethel for a week and found it to be exactly what we hoped for. Secluded, peaceful, and the perfect place to return to after a long day hiking The Butte and other nearby trails. We had moose wander right off in front of our porch, and words can't describe the views from our cabin! Breathtaking! As avid hikers we've stayed at many places across the country and this was our first trip to Alaska.

We stayed in Bear Cabin which was comfortable and tastefully decorated - nothing tacky or cheesy. Full kitchen helped us save on dining out, and the cabin came stocked with everything else we could have needed; linens, etc.

There's a flat screen tv, but we never even turned it on. We wanted someplace that wasn't corporate and in the heart of the outdoors, and Butte's Bethel was it.

Carey and Dan, the owners, are super helpful and friendly. We're planning to return again this year and won't be staying anywhere else.

My Husband and I stayed overnight in the Bear cabin last November. These cabins are clean, efficient, and uniquely Alaskan! You get the full Alaskan experience at Butte's Bethel. Beautiful views and remote serenity with easy access to all Alaska has to offer. You won't be disappointed!

Beautiful views of Pioneer Peak on the Butte just a scenic short drive from Palmer. B&B cabin offered serene, quiet stay in the woods. Hosts , Dan and Carey, ensured our stay was both quiet and comfortable. Enjoyed their gracious hospitality. Our cabin was well stocked and self-contained with every modern convenience. No need to "run to town"...... We are looking forward to many return stays in this beautiful place. Thank You Hejls for the wonderful Alaska Adventure. We'll Be Back!

I hardly ever write a negative review, and although the cabin itself is nicely appointed... it lacks many of the little things that make a difference....

This is day 11 of our Alaska trip and we have stayed almost every night in a B&B so please don't dismiss my review as ... unreasonable expectations of Alaska accomodations....

#1 - Their website says... Farm-fresh "you-cook" breakfast: Eggs, potatoes, fruit, and vegetables from our organic farm, plus bacon or sausage, waffles, local coffee, organic loose-leaf teas. Can accommodate food allergies, intolerances, and dietary preferences if you email me in advance (buttesbethel@gmail.com).

Our fridge contained 6 eggs. some potatoes, and Jimmy Dean sausage. The garden was extremely limited as far as availability. There's lots growing but the only possible items that were actually ripened were zuchini, squash, and kale... not exactly the "Fruits and vegetables from our organic farm" that you might expect for breakfast. Yes there were waffles, "Kroger Home Style Frozen waffles" in the freezer....

The cabin has one of those instant water heaters - it would stay hot for maybe 2 minutes at a time and then go ice cold during the shower... this is probably a maintenance issue but it was not a pleasant experience....

The view from our cabin was less than spectacular... I'll post pictures,,, the garden is rather unkempt with boxes and straw strewn about, I assume for "organic weed control" but still not pleasant to look at.

The shade in the bedroom is tattered and torn, and unfortnately fails to block out the light from outside.

From the website: Stay with Wildlife Biologist: Hosts Jen and Chris, are wildlife biologists, and love to share their knowledge of Alaska's wildlife. - We saw Jen for all of a minute. This isn't a classic B&B - it's cabins out back - so we really didn't have much of a chance to even see our hosts. From the website we expected to have some real interaction and we were really looking forward to that as we are avid animal lovers and hoped to have some opportunity for this.

From the website: Shop our Alaska Farm Boutique: Farm food, local artists, artisanal soaps, Alaskana gifts, and more. All made locally!
There's a tent with some signs on the wall and the place is a mess... maybe this is in the process of happening but its certainly not what one would call a gift shop... certainly not an "Alaskan Farm Botique" as advertised....

The cabin is an adequate place to stay - they have the necessary amenities (assuming they do something about the water heater). The Brita filter on the kitchen sink is a nice touch (except that it leaks). They have movies and a small flatscreen in the corner.

I just felt like this gorgeous website and fantastic write-up and expectations fell terribly short at this B&B. Some attention to detail, a little upkeep, and maybe share a few breakfast items when the "guest garden" is mostly out of season since this is supposed to be a Bed and Breakfast..... this could be a really nice place to stay... but we found it to be a poor reflection of the expectations that were set up by a fantastic website and the 5 star reviews posted here by several others... this is the first time I have felt let down by tripadvisor and it's reviews...

I added pictures - hopefully they will show up along with the review... and I'm sorry this isn't a glowing review - but I guess I wonder what exactly people think makes a 5 star review here.....

My husband and I stayed at Butte's Bethel Bed & Breakfast during July of 2013; in the 'Bear Cabin'. We needed a nice quiet place to get away during wedding preparations and our honeymoon. The service was outstanding, Carey and Dan were very accommodating. The cabin we rented had been vacant for a few days before our arrival, and they allowed me to set up a few things before we checked in. Having a full kitchen and separated living room made it like a home away from home. The wireless internet was great for keeping in touch.
The scenery is beautiful and there are numerous trails to hike in the area. Our favorite amenity was a sweet orange cat named George who came around to say "hello" every evening. He might have even stayed over for breakfast a few days.

Our families were a little jealous when they came to visit because they had stayed at another B&B. All in all, a great experience. We hope to stay here again in the future.

We loved our stay here! We flew to Anchorage a few days before our cruise began, and wanted to stay close to where our ice climbing trek was going to be. I liked what I read about them on tripadvisor, and we were not disappointed. The fridge and pantry were stocked with anything we could have possibly needed to cook an awesome breakfast. We had to be on the glacier very early on the first morning, so we were delighted to find oatmeal and fruit included in the pantry for a quick breakfast! We made a delightful breakfast the next day, and there was plenty left that we couldn't possibly cook it all! When I first read the premise of their B&B I knew it was something we would enjoy. And we certainly did. We stayed in the Bear cabin, and it was everything we could have asked for. We did have to figure the hot water out, but once we let it warm up, we didn't have any issues. The cabin was stocked with everything we could have needed to make our stay comfortable. The washing machine and dryer were an added bonus! If I ever have an opportunity to go back to Palmer, I would love to stay here again!

We were not impressed by our stay at Butte's Bethel last week. Though the cabin was clean and the bed was comfy, the water heater must have had issues because it completely ran out of hot water after about 30-45 seconds in the shower -- just in time to get all soapy and then painfully realize that the hot water was completely gone and an icy cold rinse was all that was left. There was a note warning us not to run the washing machine while using the shower (or something like that), but that was not the problem as the shower was the only thing using hot water at the time. (It's interesting to see that this is not a new issue. Others have complained about this in their reviews, but the owners haven't addressed the problem.) Also, we didn't find any that any vegetables were ready to pick, and there was no fruit in the refrigerator as noted in the description. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was disappointed in our stay here.

A nice cabin with significant water issues. Shower water temperature was impossible to regulate. A tankless water heater was either non-producing or sending scalding water to the shower mixing valve. The breakfast provisions were extremely sparce and were not replenished for our second day stay. Potatoes were the only item left from day one for our second breakfast. If we were supposed to find something in the garden..... well we would have starved.

My husband and I stayed at Butte's Bethel last July in the bear cabin. The cabin was very spacious, with a living room, large, well-appointed kitchen, and a washer and dryer for our use, which we really needed, as this was the end of our Alaska vacation. The property is lovely, secluded, and surrounded by mountains and wildflowers. The resident cat accompanied us on a walk around the surrounding property one evening. We enjoyed sitting on the porch having a glass of wine and reading our travel brochures. Palmer is a great location if you're going to visit one of the highlights of Alaska, the Matanuska Glacier. I highly recommend this wonderful accommodation.
