We had a wonderful 2-night stay at the Hotel Presidente. The rooms were spacious and clean, the beds comfortable and the bathroom had nice amenities. The hotel has great character - remodeled from an old sewing factory, then to apartments before becoming a hotel. Each room is arranged differently, the lobby and stairways are pleasant and spacious. The breakfast buffet was delicious with lots of choices - eggs, meat, rice and beans, granola, fruit and pastries. Lobby and breakfast room staff were all friendly and helpful.
The public areas of this hotel have loads of character with a good staff but the rooms are stark and the area is nasty. I’m not a timid traveler but I take heed when the parking lot security guard ushers me and my 6’ tall male companion away from the street and behind the gate while we wait for our Uber ride.
The front desk staff was friendly and spoke English. Room: Basic decor but the bed was comfortable with just the right amount of cushioning. It was equipped with a wall-mounted TV (I watched the International CNN channel in English) plus a safe and mini refrigerator. Filtered water in a glass bottle was provided daily. The WiFi signal for my room was strong. Breakfast: the free buffet was tasty and extensive. Omelets and pancakes could be made upon requested. Two computers were available in the lobby for internet surfing. The rooftop bar afforded a nice view of the city, but so did my 7th story room!
Booked direct with website. Breakfast buffet was $18 if not included in rate. The buffet was plentiful and delicious. Staff was very nice. They ordered taxis when necessary. We found Uber to be way more cost effective as the taxis racked up huge fee’s sitting in downtown traffic. The restaurant on the rooftop was very nice and food was great. The lobby is also very inviting. We had a king superior room #510. Bed was very comfortable. Room was huge but one tiny window, felt a little claustrophobic. Bathroom was large but vanity very dimly lit. Safe in room and mini frig. Rooms were rather dated. El Bar De Patio around the corner in Central Avenue was a great patio for hanging out on a rainy afternoon. The pizza was good. Looked like they also had a smoothie & coffee cafe inside there as well.…
A really nice hotel to end our tour of Costa Rica. Only had one night as we waited for our flight. They allowed us to check in at about 10:30 in the morning which was a great help, as was check out at midday the next day. Reception staff were all very good and free tea and coffee was vailable in reception. Room was very good - I think we got an upgrade that included a sitting room as well. Small fridge available in the room. Well situated in the town centre with lots of amenities and shops nearby.
We spent one night in the Presidente Hotel. We took an Uber from the airport upon arrival at SJO and arrived in about 40 minutes. The hotel is located on a small street (Calle 7) between a major artery and a major pedestrian street. It's an excellent location, within walking distance of most of the major sites of San José. We were greeted warmly by a young woman who directed us to reception, where we were welcomed warmly. Our room was on the 5th floor. It was well equipped with a comfortable king bed. The breakfast buffet had eggs, gallo pinto, fresh fruit, and many other choices and was well presented. Overall, a very good choice for a short stay in central San José. I would return.
Very nice, modern hotel in the centre of San Jose. Large rooms, very comfortable and very nice bathroom. Plenty of storage and comfortable beds. Hotel is quiet despite being right in the centre and close to all the sights and shopping areas. Only stayed one night at the end of our Grand Tour and was very comfortable. We were able to book a table for our group in the rooftop restaurant. Very good meal with drinks. Nice way to end our tour. Excellent restaurant staff, very professional and efficient. Enjoyed our brief stay. Breakfast room a little small, so unable to get a table due to quantity of guests all wanting to leave at once, did eventually get to share a table and food was fresh and good. Would highly recommend this hotel.
This was such a cool hotel. The entrance set back from the street and marginally difficult to find but it’s fine. There’s no large flashy entrance. But there are wooden staircases and hanging plants and rooftop patios. Our room was great. Loved our bathroom with a skylight. The breakfast was very very good. Lots and lots of hot food options. The location is ideal right off the pedestrian road. Five minute walk from the theater. Uber to the airport cost around $15-$20. The hotel can also arrange a shuttle for $45 if you prefer.
We arrived late at night and wanted to burn a day in San Jose before going to the countryside. This hotel is in the middle of the downtown tourist area so lots of places to visit in walking distance. It is more of a traditional Costa Rican style hotel than a mega chain so it’s a good start to jump into Costa Rica. Very clean, comfortable and the staff super friendly. Great roof top restaurant with a view.
Good location close to the main area for eating and shopping. The reception area was a little difficult to find as it is hidden behind what appears to be a small parking area. Breakfast was varied with an American slant but plenty of choice. The restaurant was good value. Ate there on our first night as we arrived from the airport quite late.
