My wife and I stayed for 3 nights at this hotel – it was the final leg of our tour of Guatemala and Costa Rica. On our arrival we were greeted with very welcome chilled flannels and a non-alcoholic cocktail. Unfortunately we were not able to collect our keys and go to our room, even though it was after the posted time. We were given a detailed briefing to learn about the facilities of the resort. There was quite a lot to take in – fortunately we were provided with a map which gave us all the information we needed. We were escorted to our room – we had booked a premium room which could be accessed by a small, 3 person lift.

We were very pleased with the location of our room. It was on the top floor of our block. We had a wrap round balcony which enabled us to have sea views in both aspects. We were at tree canopy height so we had frequent sightings of bird life. Our room was very well set up for a luxurious stay. The bed was supremely comfortable and there was plenty of room to move around and to store our belongings. The internet worked well. It would have been good to have had comfortable chairs in the room although here were some on the balcony as well as sun loungers. It was very hot on the balcony when we were there which meant we preferred to sit in the air conditioned comfort of our room.

Breakfast was a buffet with a range of juices and fruits, a variety of breads and pastries, and a few cooked options. Breakfast wait staff were very attentive and friendly. We enjoyed the lunches and dinners at the hotel restaurant although the food sometimes took a while to arrive.

The hotel runs a shuttle service to Manuel Antonio National Park – this is bookable in advance to secure your free ride.

Dear Owen_thesaints, Thank you for adding to the conversation. We’re very happy that you enjoyed your stay and trust that you found the rest and relaxation that you needed after what sounds like a whirlwind of a tour through these two beautiful countries. Central America is just chock-full of natural wonders, kind and loving people, and abundant wildlife. Our suites are definitely the way to go if you’re looking for the most amazing sunrise and/or sunset views. We also have a few suites with private jacuzzis on the deck so keep that in mind when choosing a room for your next visit! Take care and see you soon, Parador Resort & Spa

We booked the Parador for a relaxing, but short, break between dental visits in San Jose and loved everything about it. The resort commands a hillside perch above a secluded cove near Manuel Antonio National Park. The decor and ambiance suggests traditional Spain and the rooms, grounds and common areas are spotless. There are several cascading swimming pools, with one dedicated to adults only. You can be as active or as chilled out as you like as there are a variety of activities at the resort and nearby. These include a gym, a "monkey trail" in the surrounding forest perhaps to spot some exotic animals or bird; and a separate building for spa activities. (The couples massage we had there is the best we have had anywhere!) Beach access is off the hotel's grounds and accessible down a short, well-traveled path through the jungle. The trail is dirt with uneven ground and may be steep in places for some people, so wear proper shoes and be aware of this if you have physical limitations. The food at the hotel is wonderful. Breakfast is cafeteria style and features made-to-order omelettes, other eggs, meats, fruits, pastries and cereals. And dinner in the Galleria restaurant was superb. Perhaps the best feature of the Parador is the staff. They are uniformly friendly, courteous and genuinely helpful. We're frequent travelers and are ready to roll with whatever situations we encounter, but I must say the Parador not only met any expectations we may have had for a splurge, but far exceeded them.

Dear John B, It is certainly not easy to impress experienced travelers such as yourself, and we are very happy to hear our staff has managed to do so. We truly appreciate the time you took to write a detailed review, which is helpful to us and future guests of the resort. Come back and see us again for a much longer break and enjoy all there is to see and do at our grounds and in the surrounding areas of the Central Pacific. Best from the team at Parador Resort & Spa

This resort is stately but with a modern feel, stunning views and lots of wildlife to view right on the property. The deluxe suites were beautiful and clean. Beds and pillows were very comfortable and we slept well. The room had a refrigerator and coffee maker with a bar/sink area. They did offer a safe and robes to use and Wifi only worked in the rooms and lobby area. Showers are large and water pressure was decent. Air conditioning worked well and was definitely necessary in this area. We had a hot tub on the balcony which was nice and the bed was strategically place in the room to take full advantage of the views. We enjoyed both restaurants. The La Fragrata restaurant offered great food and stunning views higher on the property. La Galleria also offered great dinner and breakfast. The Don Juan bar had live music with a variety of genres. We may have been the only ones dancing but it was fun. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The different pool options were nice with two of the three being adult only. They also offer a wilderness hiking trail. With all of the side trails it was about a 1/2 mile and was a good workout with the elevation. The workout room was a good size with a variety of equipment, water and cold wash cloths (very welcoming after a hike or workout).

I don’t normally leave reviews for hotel stays because I feel like everyone’s perception and experience is unique. This hotel is gorgeous, the view, the grounds, the Monkeys… It’s breathtaking. With that said there is definitely room for improvement. The Food & Beverage rules, fees and requirements are outdated and just plain ridiculous. They force you to make a reservation to enjoy dinner at your own resort. They charge you a $3.50 fee for room service, but let’s say you want to just eat some food in your room that you are happy to pick up from one of the restaurants…You can’t, you MUST have a reservation at their empty restaurant and you MUST eat at the restaurant. It’s just strange and archaic, and the management needs to change this policy or provide a way for guests to take food back to their room to enjoy in their own privacy if they choose to. Most of the staff was pleasant, but we had some issues with our TV and it took way too many calls to the front desk to get someone up to the room to assist us. (They ended up swapping out the TV). Something else that was super annoying: if you have your own car, they count how many people are in your car every time you come and go. (Like what the hell!? This isn’t a government building, and your guests are paying a ton of money to stay with you, there is no reason to screen them every time they come and go. So I am not going to say don’t stay here, or it’s a must because every stay is unique… But I will say be prepared to be frustrated for really stupid reasons. I expected it to be easier/more relaxing and because of their weird rules it wasn’t.

Dear PetervarSD, We appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback for us and our team. Yes, there are times of the year when we do request our guests make a reservation for dinner, this to be able to accommodate everyone and provide the best service. We are vigilant with security measures for our guests and employees, which is why we ensure all who enter are accounted for, either registered as guests or visitors. We will make sure to communicate with our guests more diligently so you are not taken by surprise in the future. Sincerely, Management at Parador Resort & Spa

Superb hotel with good choice of eateries, swimming pools, and trails to walk. Very friendly and helpful staff. A little far from the nearest shops and supermarket but taxis easy to organise. Breakfast delicious with a variety of hot or cold food. Chilled water always available for refilling bottles. Our premium room had a wrap around balcony with glorious views of trees, birds and the sea. Room itself was comfortable and had everything we needed, from safe to expresso machine to twin sinks. Appreciated the complimentary fruit served by the pool during the hottest part of the day. Enjoyed walking round the grounds spotting wildlife amongst the luxuriant plants. The sun terrace is a great place for birdwatching at dawn and dusk. Would definitely recommend hotel for a stay in Manuel Antonio area.

Dear Millymead2020, We appreciate your recommendation as the place to stay in Manuel Antonio. We consider our seclusion here on the peninsula a ‘feature’ as we are a bit away from the supermarket. We do offer shuttles to the National Park and taxis are quick and inexpensive for our guests who are interested in going into town in case anyone was wondering. Many guests comment on how wonderful our included breakfast options are as well as the great service they receive either in or around the pool areas. Thank you for adding to the conversation and taking the time to share your experience while staying with us. Kindest Regards, Parador Resort & Spa

We checked in late after a 3 hr transport from SJO. Parador appeared to be fully staffed which we were grateful for because we were upgraded to an Ocean view suite which is farthest from the lobby. No way I want to be schlepping luggage in the near dark not knowing where I'm going because the grounds do take a little figuring out which is best done in daylight. We were greeted with a cool wash cloth and delicious fruit drink, both appreciated. Passports were needed at checkin so have them handy.

Breakfast was included and good. Especially enjoyed omelets and fried plantains. The resort was not very full so social distancing was not an issue. Pools were nice, there is an on-site self laundry and transportation from rooms to restaurants/lobby was a quick phone call away. I must say, the coffee machine in the room was the best we had on our trip once we figured it out. If there was one thing I didn't like, it was that the coffee maker sat in a fixed tray which made getting the water reservoir out to fill difficult. The length of the cord and available outlets made moving it a pain. Also, this fixed tray would have been nice to have been made removeable so it can be used to hold a coffee cup or drinks on the very comfortable couch since there wasn't a table nearby to hold a drink. That is really the only area for improvement I can think of. I would easily stay here again.

A couple side notes, around 11PM I wanted a diet coke and ordered one from room service, knowing it would cost enough to buy a six pack or more at a US grocer. It was delivered cold and the server said it was complimentary. I think it was the same person who delivered our luggage so tipping nicely can have reciprocal benefits. We chose to eat dinner in town after day long excursions. Ronnie's has a killer sunset view complete with macaws. The food was good. The second night we ate at Emilio's which is right off the main road heading to Parador. That was seriously good. The ceviche was probably tied with Deseo in Scottsdale AZ for the best I've ever had. That was a very good dining experience. Although only about a mile from Parador, I wouldn't walk because it is up and down some good sized hills. Also, the hotel is on a hill which is a good walk down to the bottom and back and not easy for those with hip/knee/ankle issues. There is a shuttle though.

All went smoothly during our stay and we had a great time at the Parador. My only complaint would be that we were not being picked up from the Parador until 4pm. The night before we checked out we asked if we could have a late check out and keep our room longer. We were told that another guest would be checking in (we totally understand that). I asked if the hotel provided a courtesy room and we were told that we could use the gym facilities. No problem.... until we arrived at the gym and looked at the "facilities"! We had to shower in a small room where we were on top of each other. Some people were working out and they could not use the washroom while we were attempting to shower and clean ourselves up. We were squished and personally I/we don't love getting dressed and ready where a communal toilet is two feet away. Putting our bags on the washroom floor was equally disgusting. Products were there but no hairdryer and the room was extremely hot after a shower. Nothing better than opening the door to let in air while others are working out. A dedicated courtesy room should be available or a washroom that has a proper changing and shower area. If/when I return to the Manuel Antonio area, I am not sure if I would return to the hotel after having the gym washroom as my only choice to get ready in when we have a late flight. A courtesy room goes a long way if you are checking in early and your room is not ready, or you are staying late at the hotel.

We absolutely fell in love with the Parador. We LOVED how it was the last resort on the road out at the tip of a peninsula up on a cliff. We felt like we had a little piece of Costa Rica heaven all to ourselves. We had a standard Garden View Room with double beds and it was perfect. We arrived to a welcome note with fruits and chocolates. Housekeeping checked in on us multiple times a day and always ensured our coffee was refilled and gave us chocolates. Everyone that works there was SO friendly and helpful. They provided us with boxed lunches when we needed them and the food was always delicious! The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the VIEWS were breathtaking!!! I left a piece of my heart in Costa Rica and will certainly be back to the Parador!

We spent a wonderful two weeks here with my partner at the Parador Hotel, and we enjoyed every minute of it. Our room had a wonderful view of the Pacific Ocean and the rainforest below. Through early risers, it was a special treat for us to have a great capsule coffee maker in the room and with a cup of coffee in our hands we enjoyed the sound of the animals waking up in the rainforest around us. During the two weeks we spent here, we got to know almost all of the staff in person, and we were often amazed at the professionalism in the way their work was done. I must also point out that the members of the staff, without exception, were very kind and helpful, we could not find something that would not have been fulfilled immediately. I would say this team has a huge HEART, full of big letters, and there was always a smile on their faces. We felt really welcome and an important guest, from the first minute to the last. The familiar team and the management have passed the best exam for us. The hotel enjoys a wonderful location, with 20-25 hectares of rainforest belonging to its own park providing an unforgettable experience, both plant and animal. The restaurant, bars and pools have provided a very pleasant, lasting experience, with excellent food, drinks and pools that allow for a quiet, almost private retreat. The rooms were very clean, everything we needed was ready, and more. We were taken care of with a lot of attention and kindness. In particular, I would like to highlight the professionalism with which the exterior and interior of the hotel were kept brilliantly clean and dry, which is no small task considering that the hotel is located in a rainforest area next to the ocean, where it is very rich in rain and animals. We will be very happy to come back here and absolutely recommend the place! Thank you to the Parador staff for making these two weeks for us unforgettable! Pura Vida🙂🙂🙂❤️ Agnes & Istvan from Hungary

I visited El Parador one more time after my last visit few years ago. This time, it was a family trip. I have to say that I felt welcome since our arrival. The weather was spectacular and the check in experience was fast and easy. We rented the family room (located at the floor above the La Galería restaurant) and it was really nice and huge, with a nice classy touch (absolutely stunning ocean view). Our family loved the place and the mix of nature within the hotel infrastructure was what they loved the most (seeing the monkeys and the lapas so close was awesome!) The pools are nice but small, getting a little crowded sometimes (although you have to reserve your pool spot in advance to comply with the COVID protocol, which by the way the hotel complies with high standards, I always felt safe). The staff is always smiling and ready to help you. The convenience store has the minimum necessary stuff (some medicines, snacks, local clothing, etc) and its prices are acceptable. During our stay I rented the La Reina Isabel room, which is a private room (6 people) to celebrate my daughter's birthday but the room was closed. The guest service staff helped me greatly to reserve it and have it open just for us to not to miss the brithday ($100). The room is just absolutely beautiful and the Chef Rodrigo is definitely a rock star. We had a great time with great food and wine! Breakfasts are great, the dining menu is short but delicious (a little pricy too, but worth it). The checkout process was quick and easy as well and the staff are always willing to help you.
If I have to name two things that could be improved, is that the water in the pool is always warm (outside the heat was very humid and hot, so it'd be refreshing to cool it down somehow) and the pool bar drinks are overpriced, forcing you to look for beverages outside the hotel.

You can stock up on protein bars either at the gift shop or at one of the small supermarkets nearby (hotel shuttle). The breakfast buffet is so amazing we almost never have room for lunch! But sometimes I like a casado at The Marlin restaurant (typical Costa Rican lunch)

Hello WantToTryTheGrand! International airlines request 3 hours ahead of departure, and the drive from the hotel to the airport is usually 2.5-3 hours. There is currently some construction work on the road which could add a few minutes to the drive, so to be extra safe we recommend departing at 5am. We always recommend to check driving conditions the day prior, so please reach out to our Guest Services team while you are here for more up to date information.
