My partner and I spent an amazing 14 days at Villa Roca. We enjoyed it very much.
The views from almost everywhere on the property are spectacular! The grounds are mostly well kept and clean. The pool is outstanding. The staff and manager are can be found here everyday, ensuring that the water is maintained properly.

The staff are really what make Villa Roca a great place to stay. Mau, the bartender is an absolute sweetheart, and Irene, the breakfast server is a joy to wake up to every morning. Also of note, a new young lady started on February 26th - to cover Mau's day off at the bar and Irene's day off for breakfast. She worked her first day on one of the busiest happy hours at the pool that we saw in two weeks, and did a great job. We were more than impressed by her!

We stayed in Room 5b - a stand alone unit, built a few years ago. As it is newer, it was fairly modern and updated. The bed, however, advertised as a Queen, was really more of a Double. The cleaning staff did a great job.

The location of Villa Roca is perfect for walking to and from restuarants and bars in the area or to the beach. Should you wish to take a bus instead, to the beach or to Quepos, the stops are close to the hotel.

We would definately stay at Villa Roca again - we met so many wonderful people from all over. Its not a luxury 5 star hotel by any means, but it certainly provided comfort and friendliness for the out two week stay!

Cheers!

Stay: Sept. 29- Oct. 1st
Weather: Perfectly Sunny with light clouds all day until about 6-7pm when the rain would come and go through out the night.

We made the reservation same day, when we arrived hours before check in the staff was very nice and accommodating. We were checked-in and in our room with in minutes.

We stayed in room #2. The room was spacious with a big shower, great view of the Ocean, lots of jungle noises all day. You feel submerged in a very tropical setting. The room had a very large closet, but we mostly wore speedos so… we didn’t use much of it. There was just 1 electrical outlet in the room that was free. So we unplugged the tv when we wanted to charge more than 2 items.

The pool area is where everyone hangs out. It’s the type of place that you say hi and chat with the other guests. Everyone shares where they are from, what they have already seen and done in Manuel Antonio, etc… it’s casual conversations. The pool and sauna are clothing optional. People are definitely sunning their buns. The bar opens around 2pm but you can bring your own drinks, just not glass. The bartenders are cute and friendly.

Breakfast in the mornings is actually pretty good for a free breakfast and the lady who serves it is very friendly and fun! We had the typical and omelettes each day, but you have like 6 options to pick.

They have a night guard at the main gate and someone in the office during business hours. We never felt not secure. In the evenings the bar is open so the gays from other hotels and locals may stop in.

Very fun place. Will stay again.

This hotel tends to exploit its market niche for gay men.

At US$245 a night, plus taxes, the room we had was very basic with only one night table for a king size bed, no bathroom cupboard to store anything and only uncomfortable plastic chairs. Admittedly, the balcony view was fantastic, but moving around the hotel, including to the 10’ pool and bar/breakfast tables took at least 20 stairs - not accessible in the least.

The breakfast was of generally poor quality other than excellent fruit, but with good service.

We will not be back!

The hotel is clean and tidy, and the house staff seem to do a good job. The pool area and grounds are well maintained. The rooms would best describe as rustic, in need of some significant modernisation and basic maintenance. In the end, we had to fix the wardrobe sliding door our self as the guy at reception could not remember us reporting the problem. We had Unit 1 which had a nice balcony view, but the rooms were so small that the beds had to be pushed up against the walls to fit. The bathroom was small, with simple shower curtain around a shower which was at eye level.

We were told the sunset cruise was overbooked for Wednesday having booked this months ahead. We later found through conversation that company which operates exclusive LGBT had received a large booking and the cruise would have been mostly straight – so not any way to treat your clientele

This has been historically a predominantly LGBT (emphasis on G) hotel and a few things to note about the stay. The booking process was convoluted and for a while bookings weren't even open, also was hard to get ahold of the front desk via whatsapp to confirm my reservation. The location, pool, and view are all spectacular and it is currently THE place to stay if you want to be at a mostly gay resort. Breakfast and the staff are also awesome, the people who work at the hotel are all nice and helpful. I will say, the new ownership leaves a lot to be desired, the owner was on the property and generally was loud and obnoxious detracting from the stay. It seems like the owner is wanting to convert this place into more of a 'swinger's' club, which isn't exactly what i'd be looking for in a place to stay in the future, also the rooms are very outdated for the price being paid.

Was my (34 male, USA) first time visiting Costa Rica and stayed solo at Villa Roca. Was in CR for a (straight) wedding but wanted to stay somewhere different than my group and very glad I did. I had an absolute wonderful time at Villa Roca.

Room was great, food and drinks were delicious, pool/spa was fun, and staff were very accommodating to help with taxi/tour/massage bookings.

Everyone from reception, bar tenders, breakfast service, and housekeeping were very friendly. It was also fun to skinny dip in the pool and meet other LGBTQ+ guests who created a welcoming, fun and accepting atmosphere.

I thought the price was reasonable - especially since it included an actual made-to-order breakfast each morning. On the property I saw monkeys, toucans, iguanas, parrots, frogs, and more.

My one and only issue was the wifi was a bit spotty in my room (it worked everywhere else) but it didnt matter to me. I was not in Costa Rica for work and spent most of my time out of my room.

Definitely recommend this hotel for gay visitors and can’t wait to come back.

Want to feel like your home with friends? Go and stay at Hotel Villa Roca. The staff goes out of their way to make sure you are made to feel like family and to make sure your every need is met. Once I checked in I was always called by name, Mauriel (the bartender) never had to ask what room I was in or what my name was, the young ladies who took care of my room added their special touch to make the room feel comfortable and welcoming each day and Gerald and Jose were always seen around the property overseeing the day to day operation and making sure everything was perfect for their guests. The view from my room was spectacular (just as advertised on their website). Breakfast each morning was made to order and served by the 2 sweetest ladies ever. I had a spectacular time while staying at Hotel Villa Roca and will stay again. If you are looking for a well kept beautiful property, a very reasonable nightly rate, a caring staff and overall a very comfortable and relaxing environment then Hotel Villa Roca is the place for you. GO, STAY and ENJOY!! You will not regret it.

Of all the wonderful things I can say about Villa Roca, I have to begin with the staff. They are so nice and always happy to help with anything from fresh towels to arranging excursions and even COVID testing. We saw more monkeys at the resort than we did in the National Park. This is my fourth time at Villa Roca and many improvements have been made since my last. The resort is under new management and so much progress has been made toward modernizing and enhancing this already very special place. When traveling here from the United States, the US government requires a negative COVID test within three days of returning to the US. The test cost $70 and the resort will arrange to have medical staff come to the property to complete the test. Results are emailed to you within 24 hours and you can forward the resorts to your airline. It’s a very simple process. I hope everyone enjoys your trip here as much as we did. We found it to be a great alternative to Puerto Vallarta.

I stayed here years before when it was a gay men's only resort and I was so happy to see they opened the hotel to all LGBTQIA+ travelers. I was able to stay there with my lesbian friend and we were so happy to find a welcoming place for us. The Staff is AMAZING, Johannah and some of the (extremely good-looking) bar staff took me out one night and showed me a good time. The breakfast is delicious, just make sure you watch your plate because the monkeys might show up and snatch your food if you walk away! Every room and spot on this resort offers immaculate views the ocean and the pool is an excellent place to gather and make new friends at sunset. I also loved that the pool and hot tubs are clothing optional. I cannot recommend this place enough for any Queer travelers or allies.

We stayed for 2 nights. For $270 a night there isn't even a hairdryer or coffee in the room. Very basic furniture. No mosquito nets on the doors and poorly locked windows means insects getting inside the room. Music blasting from the pool until 10pm, one night even had a DJ that made it impossible to stay in the room as it was deafening. Dogs from the neighbors barking day and night, loud air conditioning units. Cigarette smoke from other guests makes it unpleasant and disgusting to sit on the balcony. The guy at the reception shrugged it off telling us it's the only gay hotel so they can charge these prices for a sub par hotel. He told us to go to the pool which was his rude solution. Many other better options in town for a lot less money than this bad place.

Is there a gym or fitness facility close to the hotel?
Answer from NYRickWeber

Take the flight. It's so much easier and great views. We had to drive back to San Jose. Villa Roca coordinated the ride for us. It was nice to just sit back and let a driver handle it all. We do like to drive in foreign countries, but this was just the better way to go. Make sure you take time to go into the National Park. Hire a tour guide (again through Viilla Roca). They can spot all the animals that you would never see or find.
