Amazing staff…one of the groundsmen found me whenever he found a new animal (Sloths/Snakes/Agoutis) Lovely pool area with Sloths freely hanging around… 3 minute walk to beach, 2 minute walk to two excellent restaurants Highly recommend

We have lived in Costa Rica for ten years and have travelled to various areas of the country. We just returned from CariBlue and it is the best stay that we have had anywhere. There are a number of reasons, but when you combine them all it makes CariBlue stand out. The staff is the best that we have seen anywhere in Costa Rica. They were attentive, polite, and friendly. In five days we were on a first name basis with many of them and they knew us and spoke to us by name. The location is excellent and the accommodations were very clean and well maintained. We stayed in a Superior King Room which was quite secluded. We were on the top floor so that entailed 17 stairs to get up and down. We have booked a return week at the beginning of February and have booked a King Bungalow which only has three stairs, better for old knees. We were able to have a look at one of the two King Bungalows while we were there and it looks awesome! Very secluded and private. The other rooms are well spread out and fairly private. Parking is excellent and guarded. There is only one gated entrance and it is manned. The food was fabulous! I am a picky eater and I was unable to try everything that I wanted on the menu in our five day stay. There is an attached Sushi establishment that is right next to CariBlue and they offer a 15% discount for CariBlue guests. They also offer access to the beach and have tables on the beach. Each table has a red call button that you can use for food or the afternoon 2/1 drinks! We saw an abundance of Sloths and Watusas.

We had a good experience overall. The room is very comfortable and spacious and it is cleaned every day. This is great because the weather is humid. The safety box is in good condition. Air conditioner is not noisy and the fans worked well. The curtains block enough the light from the street. Bed sheets and cover were always changed and cleaned. The beds were very comfortable. You cannot drink water from the tap but they provide water dispensers with filters where you can fill a bottle. In terms of food breakfast has good options and all traditional Costarican food so you get to try several dishes. Coffee and juices are good too. Excellent customer service by don Jose María who was always paying attention to details and asking that everything was ok. Many thanks! The main pool is good and from it you can see the two sloths that live close. The gate to the beach is quite handy and the location of the hotel is awesome: right in front of Cocles beach and other restaurants. There are tours you can book from the hotel. They offer the transport which is pretty convenient. Parking is available and gated. Definitely a place to come back.

Arrived to a very hot room after a park hike. Shower had almost no pressure and I could not wash my hair. There were large cracks in my floor boards but, to my surprise, no bugs came in during the night althou I did partially cover them w a towel. On the plus it was a large and comfortable room. Not a great deal of walking area in their property but the beach is close. There is wildlife at the hotel to view. Good selection of food but omelets had an unusual taste (perhaps their choice of oil?). The main hotel section seemed clean but the back areas were dingy. Half the staff seemed disinterested. The handyman was very helpful. English was available. "Guard" at front entrance. Hostel across the street seemed nicer.

We stayed in the 2 room, 3 bed ocean view room up front. The room was perfect for our family of 4. The AC worked really well, fans above the main bedroom. Porch was lovely overlooking the front pool. The staff was very friendly. The breakfast buffet was phenomenal. I could eat that everyday! We all got 90 minute massages at the spa, which were wonderful. We saw sloths every day on the property, that was amazing. The beach across the street (as all resorts are across the street here) was beautiful. The water was so warm and clear, we could see our feet should deep in water! The main pool with swim up bar was great. The only reason I don't give this property 5 stars is that it is a little run down. The property is very large and there is just so much maintenance to do on such a huge area and in the humidity. This resort is VERY family friendly, if you don't want to hear little kids, this in not for you. If you love lush surroundings and a gorgeous beach near a fun little hippy town, you are in the right place. We were able to walk to dinner more than one night and were very happy with the options. We did have a car and grocery stores are very close by. I would stay here again in a heart beat. If you are looking for 5 star luxury, this is not it. If you are looking for solid 4 star with excellent location, food and service, this is for you. We also got laundry done while there, as our time in the rain forest went through a lot more clothing than we thought it would, they did an excellent job, quickly and for a great price. We felt safe, no issues with parking our car, were able to go into Puerto Viejo easily and get back out to our resort. I'm glad we did not stay down town PV, it was a little busy for us. We enjoyed shopping there though. We also snorkeled while here at Cahuita National Park. We did a great trip with a local guide I got off a Facebook page. You need a guide to snorkel at the park. Any questions, let me know. I am more than happy to answer.

We were supposed to spend 3 nights at Cariblue. Upon arriving we were assigned a standard triple room: the first one was dreadful, the second one slightly better but still below expectations: it looked cheap, poor quality and with little light. The worst room of the trip! As other people in our group had a superior king room (and of course we had all paid the same) we asked for one. There was none available until 2 days later. So we ended up spending 2 nights elsewhere and coming back once the superior room was available. The superior room is much more modern, better quality, better location than the standard one. Photos refer to the different rooms. The pool is small, not for swimming. Breakfast is good, but only served as of 7:30 am, while in the other hotels we stayed at as of 6:30. The hotel is about 2km from the town. It can be done on foot in about 30 min but there is no pavement and lots of cars. All in all I would not go back to this hotel.

The property is rather spacious and the rooms set on walkways between trees. It was quite lovely. The day we got there , there was a glitch with no water in the pipes & water pouring out of the air conditioners. The staff were disappointing laid back regarding the issue. I called the our travel agent whom, I presume, called the owners. They took the situation into their hands, and most apologetic, sorted out the issue immediately. The room was rather small. A queen bed + a single bed left no room to put our bags. It could have been better appointed. Breakfast buffet was generous. But the hotel was practically on the beach, with loads of eating places around. And a nice pool too. Nice place to stay for a couple of days in Cauhita

I rarely write reviews unless I really loved a place, or really didn’t. And for me to write a bad review is super rare. I travel a lot and consider myself friendly and easy to please. If I like a hotel, I return and am most happy to give them my business and to pass on positive word of mouth. I just stayed at the Cariblue for five nights. The hotel itself is a few kilometers from town, but is at the beach, which I liked. The hotel itself is lush and nicely laid out. They have a nice yoga deck. And I quite liked the salt water pool. The free breakfast was also pretty good. My room was decent too. Set back from the road. Simple and practical and on the main floor. (I am glad I didn’t have noisy upstairs neighbors as I could easily hear their tv.) The bed was, ok. My issue was with the staff. Some of them were ok, but mostly when I asked for something specific I was generally met with resistance. And very few smiles. And even what I given a small smile, I still felt like i was putting them out. Some would just give me stone face yes’ to what I was asking for and then ignore it or forget it. When in the end they finally gave me what I kindly asked for and thanked them for, which I always do, I felt repressed anger from them. No ‘your welcome’, or ‘I’m sorry’ No smiles. It was strange to me. At one point I tried to exchange some usd to colones for the tuk tuk drivers and was given an exchange rate that was most favorable to the hotel, a small thing yes, but I got a very reactive response when I questioned it. He may have been the manager..? Yes, there seems to be a bit of an undercurrent of anger and resentment there, but to be fair, I also felt this same general tenor in town as well. There were many nice people too, but I believe there is a lot of history to these behaviors that probably run quite deep. All of this being said, the national parks, waterways, beaches and jungles are spectacular, and this was for sure worth my visit to Puerto Viejo, but I won’t be returning to the Cariblue anytime soon. Sorry.

Little paradise in the jungle, only 2 minutes walk to the beach, nicest staff, great service (yoga class - highly recommended) and great breakfast. The best Caribbean experience. We had to leave one day before planned and booked, and the staff attentive and kind, considering the circumstances, and agreed to refund our money in such a humane and amazing gesture. 🏝️
