FYI, we were in a standard (King + Twin) for 3 nights. The Good. The beach is right across the street, and the views are amazing. The sound of the ocean is great, many photo ops. Staff was very friendly and attentive, as was the owner, Max. Breakfast had a variety of options and a great omelette station. Also, the AC worked well. Clean room overall. Also, the grounds were beautiful, with the animals and we'll kept pool areas. Overall, the grounds were very well maintained. Oh, and bike rentals make exploring town much easier. The Bad. That bed was stiff as a MF, because it was à mattress on a stone slab. No face cloths! However this seems to be a CR thing. Room was small-ish, but not too cramped. No phones in the room. If you care, there are no drawers. Weak drinks at the bar made us venture out more. Also, you only get one key, and it's a legit key on a keychain, no eCards. The Ugly. Horrible water pressure! And don't everyone get back to nearby rooms and shower at the same time! Hot Water was warm at best. And we got bit the F up by bugs the last night. Don't know how they got in, but don't forget your anti itch medicine! Overall a positive stay, loved the beach walks and views, but the water pressure was a downer.…
What a great hidden gem! We moved to this resort when our prior hotel did not meet our expectations and wish we had booked this one from the start. Great rooms (undergoing renovations but not too disruptive), our room was complete and was clean and nice. Great pool with food and drink service and swim up pool bar. You can also walk to the beach through the resort which was a plus. We eat at the restaurant both nights and we’re very happy with the food choices and the quality of the food. We met a lot of people there and everyone was so friendly. Would recommend and stay here again for sure.
We really enjoyed our stay! The staff are consistently friendly and helpful. We had a bungalow which was private, charming in a rustic way, nice sized, very clean and very comfortable. The bed was comfortable. There was ac which was a life saver with the humidity. Loved the fresh water pool , jacuzzi and swim up bar. The food in the restaurant was consistently very good and well prepared. Loved the Peruvian ceviche and tuna on sweet mash! Excellent breakfasts as well. Also good selection of craft beers. Definitely recommend.
We were here for 3 nights and it did not meet our expectations. The room was small and the bathroom needed updating including new tiles to replace broken ones and a decent shower head. Also there was a smell of bad drains! We got one decent meal in the restaurant (breakfasts were ok) but the other meal was sub par. The attitude of most of the young staff was "we are here for our own amusement, not to serve you."!
What a fabulous resort and one which exceeded my expectations in every way! We were unlucky with the weather during our stay and had unfortunately only booked one night, but it was our favourite place during our entire stay in Costa Rica. The heavy rain caused a few issues whilst we were there (eg the WiFi went down/entrance was flooded) but the reception team were always good humoured, helpful and friendly. There was a small communication mix up with one staff member and booking a taxi which never turned up meaning we missed a tour at the local wildlife sanctuary. It is really important to clarify exactly what you want, especially if you don’t speak much Spanish! However I would like to give a special shout out to Alfonso and Lilian for helping us fix the problem as well as organising a tour to the sloth sanctuary and a taxi to another area in Costa Rica. The wildlife we saw during our time in the hotel was actually better than that in some of the national parks we visited! It was a pleasure to wander round the grounds early in the morning and see green and black dart frogs, agoutis and exotic birds/butterflies. Unfortunately the weather was too bad for us to use the pools/wet bar but they looked great! The room was nice, lovely bed and decór. We enjoyed the hammock on the patio. It is “rustic” and bug spray is a must! The resort has extra things going on including yoga and live music and you could easily spend several nights without getting bored. It has a really nice feel to it. It is in a good location close to both puerto viejo and punta uva (two places we wanted to visit). My biggest regret is not booking here for longer!…
Nice hotel but with a few improvements it could be much better. Our stay began badly with a mixup over our room. We were two couples and rather than getting two separated bedrooms as we’d requested, we got a room with only a partial wall between the beds. The hotel also had booked us in for 4 nights not 5 when our confirmation from booking.com was clearly for 5 nights. This was frustrating because our email to the hotel several days previously asking for confirmation went unanswered. The person on the front desk did not speak very good English and it wasn’t until one of the owners arrived and suggested a compromise in which we would move rooms after the first night. The room we moved to was separated by a three-quarter height wall and door with lattice above. Unfortunately the air conditioner and ceiling fan were both in one bedroom so the other room never cooled properly. Also because of the room configuration, we had to walk into the other bedroom to access the bathroom. These were supposedly accommodations sleeping 6 yet there were only two small cups provided and no glasses. The nice thing about our room location was that we had access to a small pool behind our building as well as the main swimming pool however it was a bit noisy as the building was by the road that runs next to the beach. Some of the rooms further away from the road would have been quieter. The hotel grounds are lovely with a real jungle feel and the main pool has plenty of loungers and a swim up bar. We saw a sloth twice in the grounds and there were lots of pretty birds around. We had excellent dinners in the hotel restaurant all except one night (chef’s night off perhaps?) and we found it good value. Breakfast buffet was very good too with fresh juices, plenty of choice and an omelette station. We recommend the spa for massages which were great.…
Lovely little compound. Restaurant is very good. One large pool, two smaller pools. Did not utilize yoga or spa. Pros: beautiful beach view, nice pools, pretty gardens, close to eateries, surf school across the street Cons: not a swimming beach, need a bike to get to town (they hav them there)
This is going to be a long review! TLDR: This place is magical. You need to go here! The location is perfect! It is far enough away from the extremely busy area of Puerto Viejo which makes it so much more calm. But right X the crazy street from the beach! However, I loved being in the pool at Cariblue more than at the beach. It was so comfortable in every way! Easy to get a drink, get food, get refreshed, see monkeys and sloths! I could have stayed there all day long but felt compelled to go to the beach! It felt a lot like community at the pool, and also in the beautiful dining area. I don't know if that is what you are going for, but for me it is a plus. It felt like a nice fancy place, but with a really warm atmosphere that permeated through your staff as well. I also think that there is a nice, hip vibe at the Cariblue, and not sort of stuffy like other resorts I have stayed at. The staff was so unbelievably helpful and kind. They helped me with my sim card, they were always helpful and available. The wait staff as well. That breakfast was amazing. The best by far, of any other place that I had breakfast included. I liked our room. It was comfortable and quiet. I think the only thing I would've liked would have been our own private hammock. But you cannot have everything. The grounds were absolutely lovely, and well taken care of. One can tell that people take pride in this establishment and want the people who stay here feel intrigued, and welcomed. I love how far back from the road most everything was b/c that road is really busy. But you don't feel that when you are in the resort area. Would I stay here again? Heck Yes!! In fact, we tried to stay longer! We somehow managed to get a super great deal. And when we tried to add two more nights, we couldn't find anything comparable to the price that we paid.…
Beautiful location in the jungle with clean rooms and nice pools. There is a nice diverse breakfast buffet included with vegetarian options. Lots of covid precautions and everyone masked. Very friendly staff and helpful staff. There is an option for stand alone bungalows. We opted for a large room for our family of 4 that had plenty of space (rm 2).
This is a beautiful resort; we stayed in one of the bungalows (41) and it was very comfortable and close to the pool. The premises are beautiful full of rainforest plants and animals. We saw toucans, frogs and a cute sloth. My only complaint would be the staff… specifically the morning female staff. They definitely need some more training. I don’t know if it was because we are locals or they just didn’t want to be bothered… like we were forcing them to work. In one instance they refused to serve us breakfast because we forgot our face masks, but then you see them with their mask under their noses or completely off. “Rules for thee but not for me”. Shout out to Joseph who was kind enough to serve us breakfast after being told not to by one of his coworker. He made us feel welcomed both times we had breakfast there. Thanks so much for your customer service! The band they had playing live music was a nice touch, food was alright.…
