Beautiful in every way! They go the extra mile to make it an incredible experience from booking your stay all the way through checking out. The staff was so helpful and accommodating. Made us feel at home. Met lovely new friends from all over the world! Highly recommend ♥️

My wife and I recently spent the first part of our 20th Anniversary celebration trip to Costa Rica at Umami in Puerto Viejo. It was an amazing boutique hotel, very tasteful in the decorations and thoughtfully they offered us a bottle of sparkling wine. We spent 4 nights there. The garden and the pool are amazing. The only “small” issue, is the limited breakfast offer, there were three options, delicious, but we stayed 4 nights and is was very “tiring” same fruits everyday and sort of same plate. The staff was very kind and gave us great tips on restaurants and things to do. The pool, was very pleasant, so much that we spent 3 hours in the pool and make some friends there. We visited other hotels, but in Porto Viejo, I believe Umami is the best.

The place to relax, enjoy life, have a great rest and cone back over and over again. Because of my work, I m in Costa Rica almost every month. Out of all places this beautiful country has to offer, and after trying many of them (locations and specific Hotels), I need to search no more. This is my choice. Love coming here. The room, the staff, the pool, the drinks, the location. Cheers!

We absolutely loved our stay here. The hotel is very nice and has an elegant spa atmosphere. The whole place was immaculately clean and our room spacious. The sheets, towels, and robes were all comfy. The staff and service was attentive and very kind. Breakfast is simple but delicious. It’s a quick 5 minute walk to the ocean and all the action but just far enough to not hear the party. Excellent choice and very happy we stayed here

Given the price, I was hoping for better than "good" experience, and I hope mgt. takes care of a few things. Mosquitoes! I was in a ground-floor unit with terrace (upper level was sold out), and I spent as much time as possible on that terrace ... which has little air movement, and squadrons of mosquitoes. I needed to douse myself with repellent before stepping out. (In my 3 weeks along this coast, this was the only place I saw them). My neighbors needed repellent too. The first night, I noticed the floor inside felt soapy on my bare feet. So I sacrificed a towel and mopped the floor with it. That dirtied up the towel but took care of it, and the following days the floor just felt clean as it should. For "information", there's a little sheet with a QR code, and little else. I don't have a QR-reader code on my phone, and in any case, it disappeared under my luggage and I forgot about it. Now, how does the safe work? Instructions on the safe door are unreadable, even with my glasses on, but it's not too hard to figure out a safe (experiment before shutting the door, lesson learned long ago). Coffee maker, hmm, it's a capsule-style maker, I've never used one before. At $2 per capsule and with hot water involved, I wasn't about to experiment. I searched the internet for instructions, but "Britt" isn't known as a brand of coffee makers. Never mind, coffee is provided at breakfast. For breakfast, they ask you to choose an hour in advance, maybe because there's not enough room to handle everyone at once. No problem, I'll just have a later breakfast as I usually do, starting the day with coffee on the terrace. Except, I can't make coffee, I don't want to ask for coffee before my time (servers are busy; it's not self-serve), and don't forget repellent for the patio. On the plus side... I liked that the maids took care of the room while I was at breakfast, because it's nice to come back from brekkie to a made bed. There was a place I could store my rental bike securely overnight. USB charging outlets, nice, comfy bed, nice, rainfall shower, nice. Breakfast was ample; three basic choices of style, and I got in the habit of asking for less items included because I couldn't finish it all. Service was friendly and quick. Location was convenient at the back of the narrow town, and close to the excellent Lidia's restaurant. Umami is also right next to the tallest cell tower in town, which helps in finding your way back.

This was the most expensive hotel that we stayed at during our 16 days in Costa Rica and the only one that was not worth the cost. We stayed four four nights and didn't have hot water for the first two days. The staff are all very nice, and we loved the coffee with steamed milk from the free breakfast. The location is great, although it's a bit hard to find even with Waze directions. We did not have any issues with parking. The bed is not very comfortable, nor are the pillows. The biggest issue is the lack of soundproofing. The tile floors meant we heard every movement in the room above us. And unfortunately there was a large group staying at the hotel, including two kids, and they were extremely disruptive to everyone else at the hotel. They stood outside our room in the early morning and yelled up at their friends. They played loud music and video chatted at the intimate breakfast room. They stayed in the pool way past closing and there is no one onsite after 10 p.m. to stop it. Of course the hotel is not accountable for all the guests' behavior, but it was clear that this group was disrupting everyone else at the hotel, and the staff did not help. I assumed based on the pictures that this was an adults' only, quiet couples' hotel, and that is not what it is.

The hotel is beautiful and bespoke but there were 2 major flaws: First, the chairs on our balcony were nice looking but not functional. My husband and I felt like we were constantly spilling out of them and if you leaned forward the back cushion would fall over and you couldn’t lean back until you got the pillow to stay in place again. A bit of Velcro could fix this. Also a footrest could help keep you in the chair. My husband and I spent our time trading turns with the small table outside which meant that one of us was falling out of the chair and uncomfortable at any moment- plus you couldn’t move at all lest the whole delicate balance goes toppling over. Almost reminds me of the seats at a bus stop that are built to be uncomfortable so nobody will stay too long. Second, the fragrance they have in the bathroom is god awful. It smells like corn nuts with a hint of vanilla and farts. They have one of those glade dispensers that sprays every few minutes which we turned off right away but the room still stank for our entire stay. It was so bad that it felt like an evil demon was living in the bathroom and we had to keep the door closed at all times lest it come out and kill us. By the 2nd day I was using a double mask every time I went to use the toilet, feeling ill, and couldn’t wait to leave. Besides that the amenities were really nice. It was such a shame that these two shortcomings were at play and prohibited me from feeling relaxed and at ease. If the whole resort didn’t smell so badly I think I would have quite enjoyed my time. It is very beautiful with nice views of greenery and tin roofs nearby and the staff was very friendly.
