This place has changed hands since our previous visits to Cahuita. Previously, it was an upscale place tucked away off the road. It was always very quiet and unassuming. Today, it is filled with the younger surfer/partying crowd. There is a busy bar with beachside service. There are lots of young folks on the beach, sunning, swimming, surfing, wake boarding and drinking. By late afternoon, it’s a little raucous and the music is loud but everyone seems to be having fun. The evening we ate there, we were tired. We’d had a long and busy day and didn’t feel like making the 8 minute awalk into Cahuita to any of the restaurants in town. So, we went next door to Atlantida and had a burger and fries each. The burger was quite large … bigger than I’ve seen in years. It was cooked to perfection and garnished with just the right things … tomato, lettuce, onion and ketchup. Salsa and salt and pepper were provided in case we wanted it. While it wasn’t the most adventurous meal we had, it was satisfying for two weary Canadians who’d overdone the day’s activities. Atlantida would not be our first or even second choice of eatery but it was okay for what it was. It’s a bit like those evenings when you’re late coming home from work and exhausted and you head through the McDonald’s drive through rather than cook once home because you just don’t have the energy. We can’t really recommend it but it’s okay in a pinch…
Very nice lodge right across the road from the beach. Staff were very friendly and food was amazing. Highly recommend. There were even sloths in the trees at the hotel! Very close to Cahuita within a 15 minute walk.
A basic accomodation situated near the beach, but a 10 min walk to the town or national park. In our room the shower is open, though the water runs from the bathroom to the lower situated sleepingroom. Furniture at the pool is made off concrete. Staff is friendly and helpfully. Rooms and towels are clean.
We stayed only one night but easily could stay more . Great location right on the beach , Big rooms with nice porch in the middle of jungle garden. Steve the owner was nice and kind. We had live music at the evening and food was good too. Another plus is the walking distance to the national park l,only few minutes away
Stayed three nights at the lovely Atlantida Lodge just outside of Cahuita. Our simple, well maintained room, was cooled by fans, and was quiet and peaceful. The lodge is right across the street from an uncrowded beach - complete with a tree containing a sloth! A number of restaurants are within easy walking distance, as is the town of Cahuita and the amazing Cahuita National Park. ($5 admission) A large Sloth Sanctuary is a short drive north of the city, and well worth a visit. The well maintained pool was a delightful place to relax after hiking or touring. There is also an open air sitting area off of reception, with WiFi connection, and a large collection of National Geographic magazines. An open air, on sight restaurant serves a substantial buffet breakfast with expertly, individually prepared eggs, and is continually open for lunch, dinner, and drinks. Food, including pizza, was well prepared, delicious, and reasonably priced. Bar service is available in the restaurant, and in an additional attached area facing the ocean. Filtered water for your water bottle is available for no additional charge at the bar. The entire staff at both the restaurant and the lodge were always cheerful and friendly, and ever so helpful in addressing any issue that occurred. The staff arranged an English speaking taxi driver, Patrick, from Jamaica, to help us find the village post office. When leaf cutter ants suddenly materialized on our walkway, the area was sprayed within 10 minutes. A plumbing issue was also addressed within 10 minutes! Ask, and they take care of you! For animal lovers, there is a parrot and two well mannered dogs that visit the lodge with their staff owners. We can’t say enough about the friendly and efficient service provided by each staff member. A safe is available in reception. (Note: bring your own shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and rain gear. This is the more rainy side of the country.) If you want to get away from the craziness of the world, meet people from all over the world, don’t mind an occasional rain shower, and appreciate the Caribbean side of Costa Rica, this is a lovely destination.…
We stayed only one night on Atlantida Lodge however it was great since the place is ver centralized on the Costa Rica Caribbean as it’s very close to the most visited and beautiful beaches from Limón. The place has an amazing pizza and bar. Rooms and algo good, however they do not have A/C, which honestly is not necessary since the place has a fan on the roof which gives you the real experience of the Caribbean.
I loved the location of this hotel - we often had the beach to ourselves for swimming and walking. The rooms didn't have air con - although there was a fan - this meant they were quite hot, but we didn't spend much time indoors anyway. The staff are friendly and the restaurant serves amazing fresh cooked pizza - very welcome after a morning on the beach. Even sitting by the pool we lost count of the birds and sloths we could see without moving from a sunbed ...
If you are okay with basic accommodations, great location and good food this is the place for you. My only issue was no hot water. I knew there was no A/C and the nights were cool enough that this was not an issue. Besides, leaving the shutters open allowed you to hear the ocean. The staff was most helpful and the rooms were clean.
Negative: the rooms are not so clean, very old furniture. Very small bathroom. No airco. Staff does not speak English Positive: pool, not far from the beach, good WiFi, big parking. Restaurant and bar are open the whole day till late in the evening
We arrived after a 3 1/2 hour drive from San Jose. The driver took us down a gravel lane and then in the middle of the jungle we came across the lodge. It feels as though we are surrounded by nature and wildlife with lots of things to see. We can hear the seA from our room which is a 5 minutes stumble to the beach . Spotted a sloth on our first evening
