Staying here for three nights was paradise. Waking up every morning to the ocean breeze and the chirping of all the birds was a beautiful experience and spending time watching the wildlife from the top floor of the house was a lot of fun. We got to observe several types of toucans and iguanas. The pool and the gardens were a great getaway from the hot afternoon, and the house was surprinsingly cool. The rooms were beautiful with the well kept hardwood floors and all the amenities were provided including beach towels.

The new owners provided great insight on where to eat and what to visit in the small, authentic town of Cahuita. This was so much less touristy than the other areas visited in Costa Rica.

La Casa and the area was worth the drive from San Jose

We spent 4 days at the Casa del Mango and was the best choice we made.
The house is amazing, the pool, the bedrooms and the two decks on the 4th and 5th floor are something that not all places offer, the view is wonderful.
The owners are very friendly and polite and they take care of everything if you need.
The house is near the beach, less than 3 minute walking.
Totally recommended.!!

my partner and i stayed at "la casa del mango" for six nights (we just got back home last night!). it was a perfect location in town, close to things but quiet. a short walk from the cahuita national park, and a short drive to all kinds of fun activities on the caribe coast. we went to the sloth sanctuary, bocas del toro, panama, the beautiful parks, got amazing massages a block away, neighborhood restaurants, peurto viejo (which is a lively beach town)- there was also yoga offered in town numerous times per week. the town is quiet, and calm but has plenty of things to do.

the house itself was immaculate. clean, beautiful. even more gorgeous than the pictures. with helpful staff (especially manuel, we loved him). all of the staff was warm, welcoming, helpful- we even hung out with sara and nando's kids, and felt like a part of the family. fyi-- they don't live/stay on site, they just come during the day to make sure we are ok! so nice! we got up every morning and made breakfast and had our coffee outside where there was no shortage of wildlife. we saw iguanas, hummingbirds and all kinds of other creatures right outside our door/window. we had the house all to ourselves, so it's hard to say what it might be like if we'd had to share the facilities with strangers, but this would be a great house to rent with a group of friends or family. there was plenty of space! it was hot though. this is the Caribbean, so that is to be expected. we spent most of our days by the pool, and by bed time, things cooled down quite a bit-- overnight, we always ended up reaching for a blanket. we were on the top floor, in the room with the see-through bathroom ceiling. pro-tip: don't leave your makeup/toiletries there all day, or you'll come home to melted lipstick and very hot lotion!

it was a great stay, we were very sad to leave, and i would definitely recommend this place to friends. i'm already trying to arrange another trip! thanks to the casa del mango family for an awesome stay!

Stumbled upon this place while hunting for a place to stay in Cahuita as lonely planet had led us astray. It is perfect for a group that knows each other but would be a bit cramped if others were staying there. Staff was excelant, spoke good English and were helpful. Pool was amazing, property was extremely close to Playa Negra (not the cleanest beach I have ever seen). Rooftop balconies were perfect for stargazing, morning yoga, and we were able to spot the Sloth in the giant mango tree. Place was in need of some repairs and not the cleanest, all in all it is the best we found in Cahuita.

Thanks for your excellent review. I am very pleased to read how much you enjoyed the hotel but disappointed to see your comments about cleanliness. We strive to maintain the highest standards and are currently repairing the wooden fence and sun damaged wood upstairs. I hope the next time you visit we will rate 5 out of 5 in all areas!

Thank you for an amazing weekend we had with friends - the house is immaculate and stunning with a luxurious pool and incredible tree top views of the surrounding rainforest and the Black Beach. The children were thrilled and delighted to see a huge orange and pale green iguana majestically perched on the upper tree branches along with a resident sloth slowly scratching and stretching in the branches near to the roof top viewing platform. These were very special moments that we all shared and were only possible with such a perfect location.

What can I say?
The place is absolutely amazing. There are trees , huuuuuuge swimming pool, the views from the top floors, the dinning space, a grill for BBQs, fully equipped house.....

Absolutely amazing. Went there for 4 days and I feel like I wanna go back now!

Also Sara was such a nice person, we had a problem with our credit card and she was very understandable about it and helped us fix it. Also Cherry (or Sherry?) was such a nice person, gave us advise, asked how everything was, everything was always clean and organized.

I 100% recommend this place. It's very near from Puerto Viejo, Playa Negra beach is in front of the place, Cahuita is like 10 mins away walking.

Thanks a lot and the best of luck to you guys.

We recently spent a few days in Cahuita on the Carribbean coast of Costa Rica and had the wonderful opportunity to stay at Casa Del Mango. The tropical gardens and pool were a sheer delight for the children and Casa del Mango is impeccably maintained with a luxurious feel to the interior. The children took great pleasure in spotting the tiny green and black frogs, tadpoles and hummingbirds in the garden and the terrace on the top floor gave spectacular views of the sea and mountains as well as a breathtaking night time spectacle of shooting stars across the moonlit night sky. The helpful and friendly management ensured that our stay was a wonderful experience and one that we will treasure.

I feel terrible for not reviewing sooner, because our trip to Cahuita was incredible & Casa fel Mango definitely deserves a 5 star review. Three of my girlfriends and I found Casa fel Mango online and immediately fell in love. Let me assure you, the house is even more impressive and beautiful in person than in photos. The grounds are stunningly beautiful, with plants, trees, flowers, lizards, birds, and sloths (if you are lucky!). The pool is crystal clear and impeccably clean. Separate from the house is a guest quarters, where there was ALWAYS someone there to assist us if we needed anything. Our mornings started with coffee and conversations with Nando.

The rooms inside the house were neat, tidy and beautiful. Not overly done, but each bedroom also had its own balcony with a small table, overlooking the forest. I stayed in the bedroom with the glass ceiling above the shower. Let me tell you- it gets HOT in there when the sun is out! I followed a recommendation from a previous review and put all of my toiletries away in my room (lotion, toothpaste, etc) so that they didn't melt from the sun. But I loved having a view of the treetops while showering.

Technically, there is not AC built into the house, so it can get pretty hot & humid. But, because of the open floor plan, there are plenty of cool breezes. Because of the openness, you can also sometimes find lizards climbing the walls & ceilings. They are harmless and really beautiful.

Once you make your way to the top of the house, there are no words to accurately describe how gorgeous the view is. You can see the black beach, homes, and the tops of the forest. This was one of my favorite places to have coffee, soak up the sun, meditate and watch for sloths. I even sat at the very top during one of our morning "drizzles"... It felt AMAZING.

Sara and Nando arranged for Carlos to transport us to/from the airport, and he and Junior became our tour guides for the week, as well as friends for life! Carlos and Junior are both Costa Rica natives, and are so knowledgable, fun and hilarious. While staying at Casa del Mango, you should definitely let Junior and Carlos take you on an adventure (or two, three, four lol). We went horseback riding, toured the Cahuita National Forest, the Jaguar Rescue, hiking through the forest to a waterfall, took mudbathes at the waterfall, made homemade chocolate at a native Indian reservation, and went bicycling through Puerto Viejo to Playa Cocles. Honestly, we spent most of our time during the day away from Cahuita, but Nando arranged for a taxi when we needed it (which was very inexpensive and super convenient). The day before we left, Junior took us to his mother's restaurant in Puerto Viejo, where we enjoyed the most delicious spiny lobster.

Honestly, I couldn't have asked for a better vacation. Between Sara, Nando, Junior, Carlos, and the beauty of Casa del Mango, we really felt at home. We fell in love with Costa Rica and can not wait to visit again!

(Sara and Nando- thank you again for everything. We WILL be back to visit and please tell Junior and Carlos hello from the "little tiny chicas"!!) :-)

Cahuita is an awesome little village on Costa Rica's Caribbean Coast--a beautiful town with great people, restaurants and beaches. La Casa del Mango is perfectly situated between the white beach that is the National Park and the black beach on the other side of town. Both are an easy walk and there are restaurants and bars in both directions too. The house is gorgeous, beautiful decor, so comfortable and well maintained.

The kitchen is great for making a meal now and then, having coffee in the morning or fruit in the afternoon but the restaurants were all so good and reasonably priced for what you get that it was hard not to eat out a lot. Casados are a lot of food and so wholesome, and these people really know what to do with fish and chicken and beef. Most restaurants serve drinks as well so while Puerto Viejo has more of a nightlife scene, Cahuita has plenty of bar options for the quieter traveler.

The gardens and patios and pool at the house had me thinking I was living the dream. Even though I had the house to myself, I felt entirely safe and Nando was always around if I needed anything. I stumbled on Cahuita and had no plans of ever going back but I've just contacted Sara about a return visit (my visit was actually in January 2014). I don't get to live like a millionaire anywhere else! It seems there are no bad season for the Caribbean side--I can't wait to get back again and again.

Of the number of vacation homes we've rented, this is the one we would most like to get back to. The quirky architecture makes it something like living in a tree fort, only with jewel-colored tropical flowers all around. The rooms and especially the grounds are much more brightly colored and varied than they look in the pictures. The pool was clean and blue, as the photos show, and the gardens are cleverly laid out for seclusion and variety. It's a quiet little world of its own, behind a fence with a locked gate, on a small unpaved road with other vacation homes. One word about the height of the building: if you bring children, be aware that the top two floors are open decks. They offer a great 360° view of rooftops, jungle and ocean, and there are solid railings, of course, but it's high. That being said, for us the decks were one of the major draws of the place. On the next two floors down are the bedrooms, two on each floor, and the ground level has the open-plan living/dining/kitchen area, a powder room, and a wonderful lanai with a comfortable glider and a table and chairs.

We rented as a family of four grown-ups, with the luxury of a bedroom and private bath for each of us. Our stay was for only three nights, and we wished we had made it for twice that. Nando and Manuel were very nice and helpful and could always be found when we needed them, but were never intrusive. We liked the town of Cahuita very much, with its laissez-faire Caribbean atmosphere and contented-looking dogs wandering around. There isn't much shopping, but there always seemed to be a low-key party scene in the evening. And in the daytime there are plenty of nature-oriented things to do in the area, as other people have noted.

All in all, for us this was one of the best stays ever, anywhere.
