Lets begin with the villas where we were going to stay for 7 nights; our villa, although it was not luxurious, is was very clean, very nice, very cozy except for the beds; the mattress was very hard so the first night was okay, second night not so much but by the third night my whole body and my poor muscles hurt so much that we decided next day we were going to move out and stay somewhere else. But let's keep talking about the positive things we enjoyed: great food every day at the restaurant, variety was the key word, it was very, very good. Because of the location being up on a hill, they have shuttle services going around every ten minutes picking up and dropping of guest, very impressive, not to mention the amazing views pretty much from all over. Gardens well manicured, very nice size pool and the staff couldn't had been more friendly, helpful and courteous. (Bring your own shampoo and conditioner since they don't provide them) Would I recommend it? Absolutely yes!!…
Terrible food, shuttle stopped before restaurants closed so you must eat dinner early or there was no return. Uncomfortable old beach chairs, front desk polite but useless Villas were dangerous narrow steep drive for driving and no sidewalk for walking so shuttles were only option Or stay in your villa Shuttle time changed without notice and we missed last, front desk and security did not care..another hotel helped us
The villa was isolated from main amenities and required extensive walking up major hills; it was difficult to communicate on phone - often there was no answer to front desk, operator, etc.; total of 4 hangers in closet; no shampoo or lotion; no facial tissues; light bulb was missing from only lamp in the room; access to ice was extremely difficult/remote; only 1 restaurant in entire facility; limited/no access to mini mart food. First we did not go All Inclusive, we rent a villa for 6 weeks which is part of Villa Sol. This is a great place to stay for any type of vacation that you want to have. Just want to relax great, beautiful beach, sunshine every day, warm ocean breeze. Want to see this great country there are more tours and so much to see you will have to come back over and over again. ASK AMY ( Amy Lentz ) in Playa del Coco Her tours and her staff will make your journey in Costa Rica a memory for a lifetime. Over the years we have used her tours and we have had such great experiences . The staff at villa sol are the greatest and their are too many to name, most have worked a villa sol for years and that should tell you that not only is it a great place to stay but also a great place to work.
Let me start off by saying how accommodating Sergio in the buffett was. I am a vegetarian and it was pretty much the same meal every breakfast lunch and dinner. 5 out of the 7 nights Sergio was working and checked with the chef to make me a meal so I wasn't stuck with rice and veggies every night. Bryan the trolley driver was also very nice and informative every time we rode with him. Three activity woman, Mirelle I think was great too with my boys and the day we left on the trolley she yelled their names to say bye as we were leaving which was nice. The rooms are another story. First we were in room 101 with a normal door handle back door that slammed open and closed all night due to the wind allowing dirt all over the floor and desk. This wasn't clean when we first entered the room and there was a dirty towel blocking that door initially. The bathroom wasn't cleaned with "hair"on the toilet, old spiderwebs and dead spiders. Clearly wasn't wiped down in weeks. We called the front and nothing could be done as they were full that night. We then called RCI who we booked through and Rene in reception told RCI we were only complaining bc of the view and wanted a free upgrade. We checked in after 6pm and it was dark. We never even opened the door to see the view nor could we with how dark it was until the next morning. We confronted Rene and he claims he never told RCI that. Anywho, Then we were moved to the hotel which was a little nicer if a room but the air conditioner didn't work. Maintenence was in our room over an hour trying to fix it but even the front desk receptionist commented on how old the ac was in that room. They brought us a fan but after 2 nights of using an oscillating fan on 4 people we couldn't take it. Finally we were moved to villa 9 which was a pleasant surprise. Clean rooms, full kitchen (which we didn't need of course) and private pool, but was unfortunately in the shade so cold all the time. Overall we would stay again as long as we could rectify the room initially and not have to pack and unpack 3x. The food wasn't great as it's only 1 buffet restaurant for all 3 meals but edible. There was a "snack bar" by the main pool which had fresh fruit, hamburgers, nachos etc. There were howler monkeys swinging through the trees at least 3 of the 7 days we were there Probably more but we were off doing excursions a lot.…
We chose this resort because it was a lower-cost, smaller, all-inclusive and were very pleased. The hotel is in need of some updates, but the rooms were adequate and clean. The view is spectacular and we had gorgeous sunsets every night. The food at the buffet was all good with a fair bit of selection, but it was the same buffet every time, so just wish they changed it up a bit since they only have one restaurant. The restaurant is a lovely large space where we saw many birds and monkeys go by. The drinks were great. There are some good restaurants nearby at the beach, so we visited a couple of those for variety. Playa Hermosa beach is perfect for families with children. Much smaller waves than the beaches further south. The resort needs to add a few more lounge chairs at the beach. They don't have any watersports included, but you can book some at the hotel or thru various people down at the beach. They did have some activities by the pool. It is on a hillside, hence the great views, but means you have to walk up or downhill or take the shuttle. The shuttle runs very frequently and we never waited more than 10 minutes. It's a great location if you're flying in or out of Liberia airport. Also a good spot for sightseeing up and down the coast. …
I came to this resort just to get away since we were in lockdown for so long. I do believe that this place was not at 100% in all ways. I took some covid test kits with me so I could do my own test while there. You never know what kinds of surprises you can have. They did arrange for a medical person to come to the resort to do a covid test before I left. I ate all my meals at the one restaurant and the staff there was amazing! They treated me well and remembered me by my name and pretty much knew what I was going to drink at each meal. Food was pretty decent as well. The manager and assistant manager were very nice tool. I wish all the hotel staff was as good as the restaurant staff. The view from the restaurant was excellent as well! As far as the lobby staff, there was only one young girl ( Maria ) who was newer that treated me well. The rest brought the rating down. The guy in the lobby selling tours and arranging taxis was terrible to say the least. He gave me a runaround and appeared dishonest to me. I think he just wanted to steer me towards his friends and get a kickback. I almost missed out on excursions due to this guy. There is also guys that sell excursions on the beach and by the time I went to them they had told me that they were now sold out as the day before I was to get an answer from the guy in the lobby. I went online and booked with another group and got a cheaper rate and paid with a credit card in Canadian funds so there was no surprise. I will see if I can review the excursion on its own review. There are some massages offered on the beach and a restaurant further down that I heard was quite good but never tried it. My room was good, had a great view and was close to the restaurant and bar. Negatives : Lobby staff, excursion guy and very few chairs / lounges on the beach and nobody at the resort would tell you if they had lounges or not. I heard that the resort owned them and they were chained together and you could not pull them closer to the water. I did use some other ones that belonged to the resort next door but sometimes I was told to get off of them. At the time I was there it did not have big loud parties. I found out that there was gatherings at a different pool area but missed out on it. I was there to relax ! They have vehicles that run up and down to the beach but only operate during certain hours, so you must be aware of that. The lobby did have a closing time which I didn't understand why? Not sure what you would do if you needed to get into your room and could not for some reason. This is a hilly property for those with mobility problems. There were stray cats in the restaurant for those of you who are bothered by it. I myself would rather see that than mice running around.…
While this is not a 5 star hotel, it is a very nice hotel with lots to do. The rooms may be a little stark with no paintings or art on the walls, they were very clean and the views from the balcony are million dollar views. The food is good. Very typical Costa Rican flavor. If you are coming to Costa Rica for American Cuisine or fancy dinners, you will be disappointed at probably every hotel in the region. Your goal should be to discover and enjoy all the things that Costa Rica is about. The service at the hotel is awesome, the activities are great and the entertainment is great almost every night. They offer shuttle service to the beach or you can walk. We walked almost every time and we are 70 years old. There are lots of excursions to do (we went to 9 different ones in the 2 weeks we were there). Relax, enjoy and don't be a ugly American. Embrace the locals.…
We had an excellent time at Villas Sol, the reception teama and also the restaurant crew is super kind and helpful. I totally recommend it. My wife and I are leaving very happy. The Villa was clean and everyone was nice.
My first impression was “wow” as I went onto the balcony. The view of Hermosa Bay was magnificent. From then, it only got better. Friendly service, tasty meals and lots of fun activities. The most memorable was a day at Buena Vista - zip lines, water slide, bridge walks, horse riding, water falls, hot springs and even a local indigenous pottery demonstration. Byron, at the information desk, was a gem who even organised rides to Coco Beach. Transport around the site was excellent, especially considering that the resort is on the side of a hill. My only disappointments, which I have pointed out to the resort, is that there is not enough shade around the pools and insufficient loungers at the beach. The shade issue can be easily remedied by more umbrellas.
