My family just had an amazing experience here! We stayed for 5 days and it was one of the best vacations I’ve had in years. The food, the staff, the room and the facilities all exceeded our expectations. We will definitely come back here the next time we head to Costa Rica.

Pro: Fabulous staff, free shuttles around beautiful grounds, clean comfortable villa, right on the beach, great views, delicious wholesome meals, did not feel crowded. Con: Facility is 30 years old and it shows. It’s on a steep hillside so everything is either up or down hill. The menus can get repetitive. Facility Details: I stayed in a villa at this all-inclusive resort with a friend. Staff were unfailingly friendly, polite and helpful. Most spoke English, some better than others. We had problems with A/C the first night; they replaced the unit the next day. The tile floor in the walk-in shower was slippery when wet (consider shower shoes or flip flops). Our villa was furnished with six bath towels, plenty of toilet paper, paper towels and liquid soap. Only one hand towel, no face cloths, tissues or other toiletries. The fully furnished kitchen did not include coffee or tea. Bring your own if desired. Vegan and gluten-free dishes were clearly labeled in the Bahia restaurant. Hamburgers and fries at the main pool were delicious (wish we had tried them before our last day). Also Good to Know: Pack plenty of sunscreen, it was expensive even at the supermarket. Pack hats too. U.S. currency was accepted everywhere we went, but it’s hard to break large bills, and you may get change in local currency. Bring plenty of small bills for tips, not required but much appreciated by staff and on tours. We took two tours; both ran late, but were excellent. Bring comfortable shoes and bug spray for tours.

Overall the stay was great! There's definitely room for improvement. The view is amazing and the best for the sunset hands down! The rooms need updating. The beds aren't as bad as everyone makes them seem in reviews. The quality of everything in the room is dated and needs a face lift. The air conditioning is not good and we had ours the lowest it goes. The doors weren't really sealed so at night when it was really windy they would be very noisy as they rattled. It was nice that the food was somewhat switched up daily. Bar drinks weren't that strong so we stuck to long islands. The staff was very very nice! Vanessa the travel agent in hotel lobby was great and very knowledgeable! She even was very quick to let us know when one of our excursions got canceled and helped us look at other options or gave us the option of the money back. The activity staff was very fun and very nice! Don't skip out on the activities! They had prizes that included bottles is champagne. They take the USD everywhere for payment as most workers in Costa Rica get paid in USD now. Was easy and cheap to get an Uber to get around to other towns. The beach was better than coco beach! Some will say coco is better but the sand there was mucky! Hotel beach (Playa Hermosa) is great! The beach you could take a shuttle that runs around 15min to each stop or it's about a 5-10 min walk. If you don't like walking in the 98° weather then just wait for the shuttle. Bring a lot of sunscreen as it's around $50 USD!

Very nice and cozy resort. We enjoyed walking or being taken to the beach. The view of the ocean from the hotel room and the restaurant was beautiful. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We are vegetarians and the chef prepared vegetarian dishes for us and they were delicious. The spread of salads and fruits was great. The drinks provided as part of the all-inclusive deal were not top-shelf and were ok. The rooms were cozy and clean. Overall we had a very nice time.

We stayed in a villa through VRBO that was in Villas Sol. Fortunately our villa was updated and very nice inside. Unfortunately the property itself was very disappointing. Thank goodness we did not choose to "upgrade" to the all inclusive package - we were told by multiple people that the food was terrible and it did look bad. We utilized the pools - there was almost no shade (terrible for 90+ degree weather) and the pool chairs were incredibly uncomfortable and/or broken. The shuttle down to the beach was helpful but we walked most times in order to get more exercise - it is quite steep so most people took the shuttle and we heard complaints about it not running often enough. Overall the property seemed dated. The beach is pleasant enough but not a "pretty" beach if that makes sense - it's pretty quiet and very different from Coco which is a party scene - so just be aware of what you are looking for. The one highlight was that we took the sailboat sunset cruise through the property and that was enjoyable - they take a maximum of six people and it's relaxing.

The quality of the food at the restaurant is very poor. Can not be compared with any other resort. The resort location and the view from the resort is amazing. The only issue is that the resort is all inclusive and the quality of the food at the restaurant is very poor and also the hygiene at the restaurant is very poor too although the staff are nice and they may service your table when they pass by your table. In general would be better to ask the hotel to get a deal that doesn’t include the restaurant at the hotel.

I loved restaurant experience so much. Chefs are amazing and super nice (Pedro and Ariel) It wasn’t easy to move around with the strollers as we stayed at the villa. Lots of hills and no shade. Fun bar, good drinks. No minibar in the room (only two tiny bottles of waters for the Villa guests, and we had a party of five) - that was a bummer. Waiting for shuttle in the heat, wasn’t my favourite part. That’s why I decided to walk and exercise at the same time. Although it was really challenging with a stroller and tiny baby.

My husband and I loved this place! We stayed in a villa at the very top and used the shuttle every time we wanted to do something. It will pick up and drop off at your villa so you don't have to find a bus stop. It's gorgeous! The shuttle will take you to the reception and the beach. There's a main restaurant you can go to or a ton of small restaurants on the beach. You do have to walk to these restaurants after the shuttle drops you off but they aren't very far. We had a rental car so we would park at the reception and let the shuttle take us back to our villa or to the beach. Their service is excellent here. When you get to the beach, you have a small store for groceries or souvenirs. You'll also be able to purchase and set up activities at the beach or reception. You can find all sorts of activities from snorkeling to hiking or even rent toys like a volleyball or things to make sandcastles. Priced reasonably and so much fun! I would highly recommend this resort.

Much of Villa Sol consists of independently owned cottages. Ours had 3 bedrooms and a private covered patio with pool. It was not intended to be all inclusive and no meals were included. Our visit started out on the wrong foot because the resort is hard to find in the dark. Villa Sol shares an entrance with the Condovac resort and the Villa Sol sign is not lighted, blocked by a tree and impossible to see in the dark so we wasted 30 minutes trying to find the place after driving past it 3 times. Guest services was very helpful and got us checked in at 10:30PM. The stairway to the condo is lighted by solar lights that are dim compared to the ones in #30. A headlamp was a great help. Someone with mobility problems would have difficulty on those steps, particularly with luggage. Car park was 100 meters up a small hill. The condo was cool and comfortable when we arrived and the A/C worked great. It was set on 17C, about 60F and we kicked it up to 21C, about 70F. The master bedroom with ensuite bathroom is a good size. The other bedrooms share a bathroom on the hallway and are smaller. All have queen sized beds. The bathrooms are modern and well equipped but the water pressure is low in the showers and hot water comes and goes. Toilets are very low to the floor compared with many other places. Only 2 rolls of toilet paper provided in each bathroom for 2 weeks. The kitchen is very well equipped with new appliances. The knives are so dull, we could not cut a tomato or open a package wrapped in plastic. We had to use scissors. The pots and pans seem to be an assortment collected over time. The scratched frying pan with a loose handle described in a January 2023 review is still there. The modern stainless steel range hood is impressive until you realize that it is not vented and is just blowing the unfiltered smoke back into the kitchen. When you turn on the fan, the U shaped stainless steel baffel from the top flys off and hits you in the head. The microwave is placed in such an odd position that it cannot be reached easily from any position. You have to walk around the counter to reach it from the side where the bar stools are positioned. From that side, the door opens in your face and you have to reach under it, very difficult to use. The gas grill was not functional. There is gas and we could light the side burner with a match (dangerous flash) but the main burners do not light with a match and there is not even a smell of gas. The igniter does not work at all, no snap when you push the button. We could not find a cooler of any kind so it was impossible to take a picnic lunch unless it was food that did not spoil. There was no beach equipment. We bought our own beach bag. We have never stayed in a beach condo that did not provide these items. As a result, we could not visit any other beaches because we had nothing to sit on. The beach lounges provided at no charge by the resort come in 2 types, plastic frame and net center that are fairly comfortable and hard plastic designed for a pad but no pads provided and they are very uncomfortable. Either way, there are not enough of them. We had no instructions on what to do with trash and there were no exterior trash cans. We were later told to leave the bag out on the street in the daytime and it would be collected. Do not put it out at night or the racoons will be in it in a heartbeat. The raccoons came every night and tried to open the sliding patio doors. One night we forgot to lock them and they trashed our kitchen. Internet service is very good for a rental, about 100MBS download and 9MBS upload, more than adequate for most purposes. A small grade school sized desk is to the right of the refrigerator. There is bearly room for a computer and the power strip on the back is fully occupied so there is no place to plug anything in. We ended up using the left side of the kitchen counter as a desk and plugged in by the blender as a power source. The private pool just outside the sliding glass doors was very nice, about the size of a big hot tub. There was a big table and non-functioning gas grill on the patio and a sting of lights for night. The shuttle service around the property is frequently and reliable. Parking is up the hill at least 100 meters but if you go out to dinner and come back after 8:30PM there was no space more than half the time. I had to park in front of the office and walk back to the condo. If we came back a second time, we would choose the beachfront hotels instead of these hillside cottages.
