This hotel is great for the price. I read a lot of the negative reviews and sounds like those people would be better off spending $1,000 a night at the four seasons. But a secluded luxury hotel does not give you the Costa Rican experience. El velero is a smaller and clean hotel right on a beautiful beach. There are no waves at the beach as it is tucked in a little bay. I went there with my son for a surfing and fishing trip. We chartered a boat (from go south adventures cr) and they picked us up right on the beach in front of our hotel. We were gone until 3pm everyday, but we’re able to relax on the hotel’s beach each day. Great location! Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable even with my bad back and neck. I don’t know about noise since we play white noise on our phone everywhere we stay. I’ve never stayed at a hotel that is soundproof, regardless of the cost. The best part of this hotel is the staff. Luis worked at the restaurant everyday we were there. He was extremely attentive, nice, and funny. Jenaro and Joshua were great too. Also, we caught some fish and brought it back to the hotel. Luis took it to the chef who prepared a great meal with our fish. Great place to stay!…

this was a return visit - last time at trip start and this time at trip end. Tis a wonderful place to start and end a trip to Costa with the added bonus being its proximity to the LIR airport. It is a very beautiful place, the bay at Hermosa, and very healthy, without the trappings of some touristic beaches, but all you want. I did miss the plethora of pelicans but sadly the avian flu has taken its toll on the seabirds there now. Lots of terns flying the wave crests still. The staff is wonderful, fun, efficient and personable. This time we were on the opposite side of the hall and liked it better, because we even had a bit of seaview there. The lounge at the seaside end of the hall is a nice place to relax, read or look down on the BBQ cookings by the pool. The seating by the sea leaves you a great place to foray into the surf or watch the sundown. I wish I was there now.…

We've stayed at this hotel countless times for over 20 years. It's not super fancy but we've loved every stay. The staff and restaurant staff have always been so nice and accommodating! We love staying her our first and last night before our flights, as we have a home in Nosara. They are updating the rooms which is great. There's no elevator so if you cant haul your luggage upstairs, then request a lower level room. The beach is beautiful and the water is so nice. Con, the next beach over is much more touristy but Hermosa is calm and beautiful...highly recommend!

Have been to this area before but 1st time in this hotel. Small hotel right on the beach, older property but well kept. Check in was prompt and courteous. Food was outstanding, staff was fantastic and friendly. Beautiful sunsets, beach chairs will stay here again.

My wife and I were thankful, during our first visit to Playa Hermosa last month, to lodge at the beautiful Hotel El Velero. Our Ocean View Room had a splendid view, indeed, and we were very comfortable in it; we appreciated the fine job that the housekeepers did, tidying it daily. We enjoyed very much relaxing and walking on the gray sand beach and playing in the pool. (The ocean waves and currents were too strong for us, but we saw a number of other people having fun in them.) All of the members of the staff with whom we interacted - reservations, front desk, dining, housekeeping, and maintenance - were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the three breakfasts, one dinner, and three desserts (!) that we ate at Hotel El Velero during our stay. The food was delicious and the service superb: for the latter, we are grateful to Cristian, Francinie, Jenaro, and Joshua. We recommend: the excellent Costa Rican breakfast - eggs, Gallo Pinto, plantains, tortilla, local cheese, sour cream, and coffee; for dinner, the fish with rice and wonderful cooked vegetables; and, for dessert, the scrumptious brownie with ice cream. Our enjoyment of the food was, of course, enhanced by the surroundings of our beachfront table and the sound of Pacific Ocean waves. My wife and I are planning already, for next year, another Costa Rica visit, and we have been fortunate to make a reservation, to enjoy once again Hotel El Velero’s hospitality.…

5 Stars for absolutely everything! Best cocktails, excellent food, wonderful staff, new furniture, quiet location. Lots of trees on the beach for much needed shade. The waves are small for easy swimming!

Fantastic location on Playa Hermosa. Charming hotel, beachfront with the best sunsets, delicious restaurant and wonderful staff. We could not have asked for a better place for our first visit to Costa Rica. We wanted a relaxing beach spot, close to Liberia airport and a convenient base for tours. Comfortable room with ac, hot showers, mini fridge/microwave, walking distance to restaurants and mini markets. Their specialty BBQ night happens Wednesdays and Saturdays and is very popular, so reservations are recommended. We felt the restaurant and the room were a great value and the staff really makes for an outstanding experience. Thank you Cristian, Joshua, Luis & Jenero whose hospitality stood out at the restaurant. Gabby and April at the desk were also very helpful. We hope to visit again!…

Hotel El Velcro is a charming small hotel on a gorgeous beach! The staff is warm, friendly, and extremely helpful. The rooms are cleaned daily, and the restaurant serves excellent food! We had a lovely 6 night stay. We highly recommend this sweet hotel!

Nice room, very clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Great location on the beach. Plenty of parking. Food and beverages at there restaurant were good. Having coffee available before the restaurant opens is always a plus in my book.

Amazing location and a great value. 2nd time in Hermosa and first time staying in this hotel. It is no frills but clean and comfortable. Great bed and pillows, plenty of hot water & shower pressure. Last time we stayed in the "nicest" hotel on the beach and honestly we liked it here better as it is in a prime location for sunsets & swimming. The on-site restaurant is more than decent and you have other options to walk to for variety. Close to Liberia and a great jump off point for excursions. We will certainly stay here again. Have to say though Communication from front desk was nonexistent at check in, the girl who doesn't smile. Didn't tell us about Taco Tuesday, BBQ nights, entertainment, or that is advised to make reservations for dinner. Restaurant does not cater to hotel guests. Twice we were left scrambling when hungry. That being said we will return. They have about 8 real beach loungers, the rest are older style, unadjustable chairs but comfortable for reading. Sunsets are a 10/10…
