The locals were very friendly, and so were the people working there. Everything including the beaches were very close, I liked everything about it, I recommend for anyone visiting Costa Rica for the first time, it includes clubs and other fun things to do. The local hotel cat, Pepe was also very nice and greeted me every evening. (He loves fried fish, by the way). The rooms were also very great, and full of space. iTuanis Mae!
If you want a clean comfortable hotel with breakfast included steps away from the best dive shop in Coco Beach- look no further. Rocket Frog Divers shop is in the parking lot of the hotel and offer daily dive trips. The hotel amenities are basic, but clean and comfortable. Shower pressure was good and we were upgraded to a room with a kitchenette which was great with several grocery/produce stores just across the street. The hotel pool area is small but functional and the hotel staff are friendly and helpful.
The room and the breakfast represented quite average qualities. Let us however mention the soundproofing of the room that was on the better side, which is important in busy regions with lots of party folks. Perhaps also the following service deserves to be mentioned. After notifying the hotel that we shall arrive at Colono Beach very late, the night guard was kindly prepared with the key of our room and the guest form. The visit was before the COVID-19 restrictions.
The hotel is a block from a good sized grocery and the old town restaurants. The staff were helpful and spoke English. My room was large and clean. However, the air conditioning wasn't enough to keep the room cool and the pool needed to be cleaned more often as it was murky a couple of days. All in all, I would recommend this hotel.
We were struggling to get back to Canada amid the Corona virus & manager Sylvia was able to accommodate us day by day until we were able to sort out our flights. She was able to give us a discounted rate to help us out!! I appreciate everything the Hotel Colono has done for us during these unprecedented times!! Carlos in the open air eating area was so nice & amazing everyday!! Loved talking with him! I will be back!!
We spent a few days in this hotel and it was wonderful. Playa Coco is very lively seaside town with many tourists, hotels, restaurants and nightlife. Beach is nice but my favorite was smaller Playa Ocotal very nearby.
We have been to Coco several times, and have chosen this hotel on our last two trips. Rooms and the property are very nice & clean. Excellent location, close proximity to Super Compro grocery store and Main Street for shopping and meals. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Pool is always clean. We will be back again!
The rooms are newly renovated & clean. Comfortable bed. Beautiful pool area. Good breakfast, cooked to order. The hotel is 3 blocks from the beach, around the corner from the main street going through the town. So close to town, but on a quiet side street in a quiet location. Easy walk to everything in town.
We enjoyed our stay in hotel Colono Beach. The rooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. The hotel was about 10 minutes walk from the beach. A quiet and nice place to stay. Good breakfast in nice surroundings close to the pool.
My wife and I (both age 68) enjoyed a week here and wanted to share some thoughts: THE VIBE: Playas del Coco is a cool place with a modest "party vibe", but only on the main street. The Hotel Colono is about 200 yards away from the bar / restaurant scene and is wonderfully quiet and secluded. If you're looking for a swinging singles scene, this hotel is NOT for you. Mind you... on the weekend there are a few noisy kids who seem to be day-trippers. THE HOTEL: It's smaller than the pictures suggest, but very intimate. From our room to sun-deck was 20 feet and another 10 feet into the pool / hot-tub. The place is super-clean as the staff is always sweeping and mopping. It's spotless. THE STAFF: After a few days everyone knows each other by name. Super nice staff, just like all Ticos. Their English is fine and they will go out of their way to help you. Maid service is excellent... but always leave a daily tip to keep them incentivized. Same at meals, even though 10% "service charge" is added to the bill automatically. THE ROOMS: We had a 2 BR "suite" with a kitchen. Big rooms with tall ceilings, fans and excellent AC. The only thing lacking... baggage racks. Overall the rooms are spartan but spotless. Bathrooms are very nice but our shower head sprayed everywhere, soaking towels. Free Wi-Fi is strong and pretty fast. Best signal is in the restaurant near the bar. THE RESTAURANT: Breakfast is included and is either cooked to order or buffet, depending on the crowd. Costa Rican food is good, if you like rice and beans and killer fresh fruit. (Fruit stands by the road sell papayas for $1) The lunch / dinner menu is extensive and well prepared, but after a day or so you'll want to explore the restaurant scene "downtown". THE BEACH: It's a good 10 - 15 minute walk on uneven pavement and when you get there you'll see a "No Swimming" sign due to rip-currents. Another 10-15 min will get you to a swimable area just to the north or south. Taxis are plentiful and cheap via a street hail. TOURS: The Hotel has a deal with Julio Trabajando from a local tour company. The hotel can arrange airport pick-up / drop-off ($50 per car to LIR) and other tours. We did the Beach Tour ($140) which was an all-day drive down the coast to super-crowded Playas Tamarindo and Flamingo which made Cancun look roomy. But they also visited Playa Grande, an immense beach with nobody except us. Julio is great so use him and his partner Manuel. They can be reached on WhatsApp at 506-8356-4722 MONEY: You can get by just fine on $US, though having a few Colons at hand won't hurt. I suggest you bring $200 US in singles and $5 bills. Credit cards accepted everywhere, including the supermarket almost directly across the street (where there's also an ATM). THE WATER: It's fine, right out of the tap. But drink lots. It is super-hot mid-day. Overall... we had a good time with plenty of eating and sleeping (see separate reviews of our favorites). This side of Costa Rica is NOT green. In dry season it is parched and dry. But the people are super-nice and the place is very safe. We're happy to answer any specific questions.... JIM & MIMI…
