Staying at the Palms was the best choice we made for our first visit to Costa Rica. The staff was genuinely kind and responsive to all of our needs (mucho gracias Jonathan). The hotel was extremely clean and all of the facilities in working condition. The location was perfect as the shopping/main street and beach were both literally a two minute walk to each respectively. (I do not recommend renting a car). The owners were onsite and kindly hosted several late afternoon/evenings of engaging fun. Bingo, karaoke, and trivia offered a great time to meet other travelers and create long term friendships. The restaurant had a substantial amount of delicious choices and the portions were large enough to share. The pool was clean and the water perfect temperature for the season. There are a wide variety of room types and amenities to choose from so consider your choices when making reservations - do you want to spend time in your room, watch tv/work remotely or do you want to be outside enjoying beautiful Coco Beach? If you plan on excursions, the hotel staff were well informed of the different options and it was easy to book. We opted for the catamaran snorkling, barbque, sunset cruise (highly recommend this as it is the only way to see the complete ocean sunset). In addition, the onsite market was a great addition providing everything you need to make your vacation complete.

Great pool area and patio restaurant with a super attentive and wonderful cook! He was kind enough to make a veggie omelette for me which isn’t offered in the menu, saying he had never done one before. It was awesome!

The front desk service wasn’t that friendly or attentive. The room was fine, but fridge didn’t work. Good AC. No doors on bathrooms, only curtains, so take heed depending who you are traveling with and comfort level of “togetherness”! The place is a block from the beach and main street which is great.

Housekeeping must’ve thrown away my soap which bugged me because I try to reuse/recycle. They also had my room wide open when I came back from diving to check out!!! It might not have been for more than a few minutes or might have been an hour. Who knows, but all my belongings were in sight with the door wide open, which is disturbing and unprofessional. Comfy beds, lumpy, soft pillows, but they were comfy.

Earth-friendly products or wall
mounted shampoo/soap would be nice to minimize trash/plastic consumption.

We stayed at the Palms in Coco Beach for one week, mid Dec. We requested a king bed suite pool side $185 USD/ $245 CAD per night. First mistake, as this room is directly in front of the well attended pool table, and restaurant all open to the public and has activities, and music every night. No noise restrictions until 10pm. No fault of the hotel, but from 2am to 6am each morning neighbour dogs bark, roosters sang, and racoons ran around the inside walls. Needless to say not much sleep. The public can buy day passes to the pool, weekends are very busy. The rooms are very minimal, one small lamp, one accessible plug for all devices, not one shelf or hook in the bathroom with a pedestal sink, no where to put your toiletries, or hang a wet bathing suit. The fridge banged every 30 sec, we unplugged it at night. The door had a 1 in. gap at the bottom, we wedged a towel each night. The safe did not work properly, maintenance was in everyday trying to fix it. Housekeeping was friendly, kept it clean. Pool area has nice loungers, but during the day the sun is full exposure, the only shaded area, had mostly broken chairs. We were going to sit in the empty restaurant area one after noon to play cards in the shade have our drink and chips but were told we couldn't bring our own food, needed to move 5 feet onto the pool deck where there was no shade. The restaurant meals were really great, good service. Front desk was very helpful and over all felt safe in the area. The owners live on site, we were in their company a few times, I would think this would be a great opportunity to ask us how things are, we would have gladly shared our experience. As well, we had thought a post review from the hotel would have been given as we checked out. I know the new owners are improving the hotel, but feedback from guests is important for all.

I can't say enough about the staff at The Palms. Everyone from reservations to the bartenders and waitresses down to the maintenance person and maid service went above and beyond to be polite and professional during my week long stay. Entertainment and activities nightly in there open air patio area was perfect. All staff maintained COVID19 guidelines at all times while I was there. After the first day everyone greeted me by my first name. The staff is like a large family working together to make your stay perfect. Breakfast was included with my stay and was prepared perfect each morning. The restaurant is a hidden gem in Coco. The new owners could not have been nicer and greeted me throughout the day and evening. I highly recommend The Palms at Coco Beach.

This is a hidden gem! We were craving good food and stumbled upon this place (we were searching for craft brews)-
We had carribean wings one day ❤️ then we came back another evening for dinner and ordered the seafood dinner for two. Delicious and would easily feed 4!
The staff is friendly, kind, and really helped us with tips on visiting the area. They were the first place to not have kids selling wares while you ate and they did not even think about upselling you tours etc. The bartenders just wanted you to leave happy and full!
They also gave us advice on getting around ( you can’t walk up the hill to the local breweries).
This restaurant made our vacation much more enjoyable.

We stayed at the Palms because we were here a few weeks ago and they were able to accommodate a family of 5 in one room. Our room had a King and queen bed, and worked fine for us. The hospitality and service is great! Everyone is very friendly , the pool is very nice and large. The rooms are clean and AC works great!
However, when we were here, just 2 weeks ago, the breakfast they served us was delicious! This morning, not so much. We ordered off the same menu, but the eggs were cold and rubbery, the pancakes were minuscule and appears to be microwaved pancakes, and the bacon was much fattier than two weeks ago too. I’m a little bummed because of the lack of consistency in such a short period of time. I hope this review helps the kitchen fix some of these issues. Other than the food, we really enjoy it here!

It is the worst 3 stars hotels I ever experienced in 40 countries and more than 50 years travel.
The room was extremly small, the unique window could not be opened, the fridge was very loud, the TV did not work, one towel was perforated, the thin walls transmitted everything happened in the neighborn room, nobody helped me to carry my luggage in the first floor, there was no water boiler or coffee machine, no microwave.
The reception manager lied to me several time: 1/ promised to fix the tv; 2/ promised to change the fridge; 3/ promised to give me a better room, what he constantly did for other unhappy guests; 4/ ordered a friend (private person) instead of the requested taxi; his blue car was dirty, he was not able to issue an invoice.
They gave me a voucher for 50 $ for ONE dinner....this cannot compensate 7 sleepless nights (due to the firdge which was very loud everytime when connected/disconnected).
I have pictures and audio-records to proof everything I wrote here.

Our favourite restaurant in Coco by far. We have tried so much on the menu and everything has been absolutely fantastic. The wings are so tasty and crispy, chicken and rice is delicious, the best chicken fingers I have ever tasted (real chicken breast and panko), my wife loves the fish, (Dorado) the Cobb salad is a great tasty meal with grilled chicken and avocado. Sushi is extremely large and fresh and the tacos are fresh and tasty. Ken and Val are amazing hosts, and they have excellent entertainment such as trivia night Wednesday, live entertainment Saturday, and our favourite open mic on Thursday where there are some very talented musicians. Servers Johnathan and Corrine are attentive along with the others as well. The atmosphere is great with a pool waterfall and garden lighting for some ambiance. Make sure to give it a try if you are ever in coco. I highly recommend it!

If you are looking for a relatively inexpensive place to stay near the beach and don't care about comfort, this is your place. The location is central to the beach and plenty of shops and restaurants and there is a lot happening every night in the hotel restaurant, but you will be able to hear every bit of it from your room as well as every footstep and word from all of your neighbors. The beds are uncomfortable and the bathrooms are very old and tiny. Our toilet made a random high pitch noise that would only go away by wiggling the handle, which we did several times in the middle of the night. We prepaid for 2 nights, but after the first night, cut our losses and left for another hotel.

I would also call the hotel. We flew in and out of SJO. We rented a car to tour the country. I would prefer to check in earlier because day time is much safer. If you did not rent a car call the hotel to see if they have a shuttle. I think I would stay closer to the airport and then arrive at the hotel during the day before the nightlife starts happening. We went out at night, don't get me wrong. But I would not want to arrive that late.

I did not arrive at the Liberia airport, but I did fly out of there. A hotel staff member was kind enough to drive me to the airport from the hotel. It is very close, maybe 20 minutes drive. I would call the hotel to see if they will pick you up, for a fee, or take a taxi.
