I was fortunate to stay at Chantel Suites when I arrived in Coco Beach and wow, what amazing views right from my suite. Clean, comfortable, and grateful to have a fridge and kitchen/dishes etc to be able to have some meals at 'home'. This is a peaceful paradise overlooking the beach, town, and surrounding area. Healthy easy walk to town, or plenty of affordable cabs. Really enjoyed my stay here. There is a rooftop restaurant that is excellent. Also having a pool right there is such a delight. I highly recommend Chantel Suites for your next stay. Anita and her staff are awesome people.

Wonderful view of playa del Coco. The hotel is perched up on a cliff. A good place to stay. Clean room with basic amenities. It was nice to have a frig and coffee maker. Only downside no where in walking distance to have breakfast. Restaurant on premise has an awesome lookout. It is only open for lunch and dinner. Food is excellent.

Just returned from Costa Rica yesterday. My friends and I stayed there for about 4-5 days in celebration of one's birthday. We had an awesome time! We stayed at Hotel Chantel. At first, we were weary about our destination when the cab driver turned onto a rocky, not very scenic, dirt road, which later became paved and winding... but once we arrived at the hotel, we were pleasantly surprised! It was very clean and well kept. The view was breathtaking as you have an amazing landscape and oceanview. The pool was small but perfect for the group we went with. I would highly recommend this hotel. The room we booked had a problem with the air conditioning, but Anita was more than happy to accommodate us to work out our needs as she provided us with an extra room to use as we wish. Hopefully, that room's A/C will be fixed because it was awesome, with a full kitchen and living area. The staff was very pleasant - always smiling and very accommodating. Hope you have as great a time as we did when you visit Costa Rica and Hotel Chantel!

The room seemed nice but the steep driveway and lack of handrail led to a fall that broke my wife's arm and hip. Hotel managers would not even have a conversation about the accident. If you've got any physical disabilities I would recommend staying somewhere else.

Response from Chantel Ayre, Owner at Chantel Suites

These guests showed up drinking, then proceeded to back into a large designer flower pot and smashed it to pieces at the reception desk. They came for a blues festival in town. They then left to go to a meet and great in town and continued drinking for more hours. They came back to the property and parked on the street in front, they started to argue and then we heard a scream and his wife was on the ground and was saying she broke her arm. She stayed in the middle of the street while someone had to direct traffic around her. My staff helped with her to get an ambulance and private doctor up to see her. They were both drunk. We have video footage of the whole thing. Later around 3 am he contacts us because he has lost his wallet and fortunately someone had found it on the side of the road and turned it in. They were both a complete mess. Their drinking and their accident had nothing to do with us, except we were kind enough to help them with medical services.

This hotel was gross, I have no idea why it has so many good reviews. Maybe people are just nasty AF. This hotel was dirty and ghetto. The lobby and the restaurant were the only good thing about it. I rented an "executive" suite for 3 nights and there was nothing executive about it. The room had clearly not been cleaned properly in a few months. There were layers of dust and crud on almost every surface and the mirrors had hand and finger smudges all over them. The back of the toilet
had long scraggly hairs on it and one of the top drawers in a dresser had crumbs and hair in it. When I brought this to the attention of the staff, they were not surprised at all and offered me another room. The new room was not that much better, the "clean" glasses that were offered in the bathroom were not. They were full of spots and finger prints. Even in the hallways where the elevator's are located there are thick layers of dust and grime on the surfaces of the decore. This hotel is gross. Don't waist your money.

One person who cleans the rooms and supposedly makes breakfast. We passed !
Noise from the bar upstairs all night. No sleep. Two dilapidated chairs by the very small pool area. Asked to purchase a soft drink... Only available after 4 PM. Really
happy we only spent one night.

Response from Chantel A, Manager at Chantel Suites
Responded Jun 18, 2016
Hello Leopold, The free breakfast that hotel guests receive is a typical Costa Rican style breakfast of gallo pinto, eggs, cheese, toast, fresh fruit and coffee/tea. The majority of guests here give excellent feedback on the quality of our breakfast. I will give a little bit of backstory for anyone else reading this. When you heard the description of breakfast (when you were checked in 2 hours early free of charge), you told the receptionist that you did not like gallo pinto (but with many more profanities and foul language). Although this is a set (free) breakfast and the restaurant does not have any other ingredients to make special requests for breakfast, we did our best to accommodate you by happily offering you extra eggs and extra everything else instead of the gallo pinto, which you said would be ok. The next morning I personally went to the bakery downtown at 6:00am to get extra freshly baked breads and cheeses specially for you. However, when you went to the restaurant for breakfast you immediately demanded and yelled at the cook your requests (in English, she speaks Spanish) and when you did not understand what she was trying to tell you you angrily left the restaurant without even sitting down at a table or seeing/tasting the breakfast. So please so not complain about the breakfast at Hotel Chantel. To address your other points - about not being able to buy a soft drink - you were able to buy drinks from the restaurant before it opened, so that is a plain lie. We are working on getting a vending machine for the lobby. The restaurant closes at 9pm and it is completely quiet by 9:15pm. Although all hotel staff was eager to please you it seemed as if you are a man who is impossible to please and never happy. On top of that, your hostile and unmannerly treatment of people left many shook up, especially the receptionist who you threw your rooms keys at her when you left. We will be using video footage of your interactions to train staff how to handle difficult guests. This review is not an honest representation of a stay at Hotel Chantel and anyone reading this can please make their own judgement based on reading more of our reviews. TripAdvisor is a great tool for guests to leave their feedback but there will be the outliers such as this review, who use this means as a personal vendetta. Unfortunately I have to write this response in defense as your review could potentially affect our business.

We were underwhelmed with the service and the room. In our experience highly rated trip advisor hotels have exceptionally helpful staff that often make great suggestions about activities and local cuisine. This wasn't the case, we felt as if we were an inconvenience to to owner's son and the manager.
The room was acceptably clean, but it had ants, which the manager knew about. The toilet had stains and the mirror was sunburnt. The entry to all the rooms are sliding glass, which is fine, but all other guests use the balcony.
The newest addition to the hotel is the restaurant on the roof. Again, this is just out impression, but we felt pressured to eat at their establishment. The ambiance of the room and balcony is disrupted by Jack Johnson or equivalent frat boy music on loop. The breakfast is served at the restaurant in the morning with beautiful views, but the tables and linens are filthy.
The pool was too dirty to swim in.
Overall I would sum up the stay as awkward and uncomfortable. All the makings of a good hotel were there, but not put together. Hotels should make their guests feel at home.
I'm very suspect of the high praise in the other reviews.

Hotel Chantel is a great place, located in the hills in Playa del Coco, it provides great views of the area. It's clean and close to pretty much everything. Don't forget to check out the rooftop restaurant and lounge area!

I stayed here the last week of December 2013 with my brother, sister-in-law, niece (7) and nephew (10) and absolutely loved it. We were originally at a different hotel near the town center and the craziness that goes with the weekend before New Years. Because of the all-night party noise, we switched hotels and luckily ended up at penthouse room at the Hotel Chantel.
The room had been recently remodeled, the view is phenomenal, the deck is amazing, and the service was second to none. Anita, Chantel, and Adrian gave us great advice on where to go, what to do, and helped with any little thing we needed. Adrian _even_ offered to drive into town to get us a pizza.
The breakfast at the restaurant was really good, and the upstair deck / lounge was nice. I only wish the restaurant was open for more than just breakfast.
Staying at this hotel, put the final cherry on top of our first trip to Costa Rica. I wish we could have stayed here longer.

I have lived in CR for 25 years and had never been to Playa del Coco, this was an amazing way to see it for the first time. Located at the top of a hill overlooking the entire coast Hotel Chantel gave my friends and I a view that left us sitting on the rooftop deck for hours drinking cold beers and truly enjoying life. The owners knew the local scene perfectly and knew the best places to go to for an unforgettable time. I would stay here in a heartbeat for my next visit!

Hi thanks for contacting us. The best way to get to Playas del Coco and Chantel Suites is to take the main hwy to Nicaragua. When you get to Liberia you turn off to the left and follow the main road past Liberia airport and continue on about 5 minutes until the turn off to Playas del Coco. We are located 25 minutes from Liberia International airport. So flying into Costa Rica you can land close by and drive a short 25 minutes to the beach.
Hi thanks for booking with us. Yes our restaurant will be open Christmas Eve. I would suggest making a reservation with them soon. As things are getting booked up quickly for those dates. You can contact The Lookout Restaurant on their facebook page to make a reservation. Also there will be other restaurants open thru out the holidays in Playas del Coco. See you soon....
It is approximately $50 to get from the LIR Liberia airport to Playas del Coco and Hotel Chantel.
5 to 10 minutes on taxi or 25-30 minutes walk. If you're in good shape it's a good hike both ways.
