We stayed here for a couple nights, and absolutely loved it. The views were amazing, the owners were so friendly and fun. It was like visiting with a friend! The pool and rooms were immaculate, the food was fresh, the conversation was entertaining.
Come for a few days of relaxation before continuing on with your adventures in CR. This 25 acre property above the hills of Playa del Coco is a slice of heaven. Gorgeous ocean vistas, unbelievable sunsets, a plethora of colorful birds, plant life, animals...we are in nature, yet at the same time pampered by el dueño (owner), Rick. Every morning this former executive chef prepares an array of fresh tropical fruit, fresh bread and cinnamon buns from a local baker, fresh-squeezed. mango juice, smoothies, and his infamous waffles. Rick is the most hospitable host that I've ever met. He provides a cell phone during your stay, lots of games, a fridge full of drinks, so you don't have to run to town for a beer:) The accommodations are super comfortable with solid air conditioning, nice bedding, and towels. Make sure to take a tour of Rick's grounds--learn about the trees, plants, birds, fire ants' secret hiding place, etc. If you are curious and ask questions, he will provide a wealth of knowledge about well, pretty much everything Costa Rican:) He is kind, humble, knowledgeable, and most importantly, made our stay relaxing and enjoyable. After one day, we felt like we had found a new home in CR. We can't wait to return!…
We stayed here for the last night of my birthday trip and I wish we could have stayed longer. The property is beautiful and so peaceful. Rick is an amazing chef, and prepared the best meals we had in Costa Rica! Definitely take advantage of that option! It’s not too far from the airport so it’s a great place to begin and end your trip. Or just stay the whole time. We highly recommend staying here.
We stayed five nights at Rancho Armadillo with our two teenage daughters and had a fabulous stay. Rick aims to please and succeeds in spades. Our adjoining rooms were ideal, the grounds lovely, and the pool just right. Each day started off right with a fine breakfast with fresh fruit and waffles. We explored a different beach each day, and in the afternoon hung around the pool. Rick's recommendations for where to go, what to do, and where to eat were spot on for us. We rented a car in town and would highly recommend Rancho Armadillo to anyone with a laid back approach to traveling.
We had a great experience at Rancho Armadillo. 3 days, starting New Year's Eve, family of 5 staying in 3 adjoining rooms. The rooms were beautiful, clean, quiet and everything worked! We were in our own building, occupying 3 of the 7 total rooms on the very private grounds. The view is spectacular perched on a hillside, just a short ride to town. Rick was a genteel host, serving a delicious breakfast and making multiple recommendations, all of which were spot on. (Try the exquisite gelato in town!). A very relaxing stay with my highest recommendations.
That's what one of the Tico Times reviews said and it is true. Just a 3 minute drive to the beach, but up the hill in a tranquill, beautiful spot. We were here in the "green season" before the tourists come and had it to ourselves. Pool, music, full kitchen available, breakfast provided each morning. What a paradise. Rick is welcoming and full of information about restaurants, beaches, Costa Rica in general. Highly recommended
Our family stayed here on our first 2, and last 2 nights. Coming back to Ricks was the perfect ending to an amazing trip. The pool was wonderful, and everywhere you look you see personal touches that makes this place the gem it is. The rooms were beautiful, comfortable beds and a gorgeous view, right outside our door. Make sure to have Rick cook his unbelievable 7 course meal (he is a certified chef after all) because that will be one of your best meals in Costa Rica. Needless to say, we loved this place, and hope to visit again someday!
We visited Costa Rica for our nephew's graduation. We began and ended our stay at Rancho Armadillo. I can not say enough about the zen like feeling that Rancho Armadillo has. On one of our nights we enjoyed a seven or eight course gourmet meal which was prepared by Rick--the owner. He is an amazing chef. Wait until you try his waffles in the morning. We relaxed by the pool while listening to howler monkeys that travel around his property. When we returned to Rick's at the end of our stay in Costa Rica, our nephew told us it was his favorite place. I really can't say enough about Rick's hospitality. And be sure to take advantage of his knowledge and tips. We can't wait to return and use Rick's as our home base and have day trips from there.
We enjoyed a week's stay at Rancho Armadillo. We had a large comfortable room (half of a duplex really) in a forested area with lots of birds, even a troupe of howler monkeys that we saw a couple of times. There is lots of room to relax and Rick, the proprietor is very friendly and offers great ideas about what to do and see in the area. The estate is up on the hill overlooking Playa del Coco which has both advantages (great views and peaceful location) and disadvantages (it is a long way from the beach and the town so you really need to rent a car). But I would definitely recommend Rancho Armadillo for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday in a beautiful location like Playa del Coco.
Our family of 17 (7months to 64) went to Rancho Armadillo Estates for a week, Feb 17-25, 2018. Rick goes above and beyond to make your stay great. Our 7 year old grandson said "Best family holiday ever, Rick is a gracious host". Rick is an excellent chef, he made wonderful breakfasts and for our large group he made us dinner. Everyone loved the food he prepared for us. Rick arranged all of our trips and even our transportation, (thanks Coco Tours). The accommodation were perfect for our family. The kids loved the pool and we enjoyed sitting in the hammocks, were we could see the kids splashing and having a great time. There is so much to do in the area, Zip lining, sailing, snorkelling, swimming in the warm water, waterfalls and cat rescue retreat were some of the activities we did. We will return and be staying with our friend in Rancho Armadillo Estates. Mucho gracias Rick.…
