We enjoyed our 5-night stay at the Heliconias Nature Lodge despite a couple of minor issues. We stayed in a glass bungalow and loved hanging out in the hammocks on the porch listening to birds, frogs and various other sounds! The grounds are very well kept and we had no problems with bugs. The bungalows were clean and the beds comfortable. The bathroom was spacious but the shower didn't drain very well and tended to flood the entire bathroom floor. Also the fan switch was broken so we were unable to turn it on and off. Breakfast in the open-air restaurant was good and plentiful - fruit and cooked breakfast foods. We would have appreciated to also have some breakfast pastries, cereal and granola options.
Not maintained well. Room stunk badly and pool was green and cloudy. Furniture dated and worn. Bathroom was dirty with cheap linoleum covered in holes from where bolts used to attach. Grounds are pretty. But cabins are spread out and it’s a long walk between cabin, pool, etc. staff was supposed to pick us up at 6 am in their golf cart to help us get our bags up to the parking lot. They never showed. So trudged them uphill ourselves with three kids in tow at 6 am.
We stayed 2 nights in a glass house and loved being surrounded by the jungle! I could have stayed on the porch the whole time, it was so lovely. We liked the fact that you left your car at reception and then only walked around the property. We saw a sloth very high in a tree and a toucan. The front desk was very helpful - happy to book tours, call taxis, and help us with directions. They even drove us in the golf cart from the restaurant to our room after an exhausting day of hiking. The pool was very nice, but the side that was supposed to be hot was only warm. The only downside with the room was a lack of hooks to hang damp towels and clothes and a shortage of outlets. But the view and overall property made up for that.
We really enjoyed our stay at Heliconias Nature Inn. We were welcomed by friendly staff and given a tour of the property. The Venado bungalow was clean with a full glass enclosure and balcony. The grounds are peaceful and well maintained. The food at the restaurant was delicious. Free Wi-fi, Netflix and hot showers. Thís is a family-owned property. We would definitely stay here again.
We had different experiences with the three rooms we had at this resort. One of the rooms had no hot water for two days and they kept says you just need to run it longer to get hot water but after the second day they finally came and believed us that there was no hot water. They finally fixed it on the last day of our stay. One room the air conditioner wasn’t working but they fixed it. Then another room we came back and the air conditioner wasn’t working and they had to reset it. The WiFi didn’t work well in two of the three rooms. The tree house room did not have any hooks or closets to hang any of your clothes on. Plus no shower curtain or window covers. It was too easy for others to see when you are in the shower. Lack of privacy. The food at their restaurant was sub par. And because they are a thirty minute ride to La Fortuna and not a lot around there you are stuck eating there especially if you don’t have a car to go there. Not a lot around there. We needed breakfast one morning early and the said they would open it early to accommodate us and another group who had an excursion that we need to be picked up for at 10 minutes after their normal breakfast start time. They did not open early as promised so we had to eat on the run. I would not recommend this place unless you have transportation to get to places with activities in the area.…
We stayed in one of the treehouse units at Heliconias. They carried our (quite heavy) bags up to the top for us, and brought them back down upon checkout. The room was so comfortable. The only complaint was creaking upon moving, but that's what you get when you're up off the ground! Beds were comfortable, towels nice. We had a mix up with our driver and the IT guy Eddie volunteered to drive us all the way to the Mistico Hanging Bridges Park, giving us great conversation and insight about Costa Rica on the way. We were very appreciative of the ride! Everyone was so friendly!
This place is truly a hidden gem. We visit Costa Rica a few times a year and always try to stay at new places each time. We have stayed everywhere from 5-star resorts such as The Westin, The Springs, Four Seasons, and this place offers the most “bang for your buck.” The location is amazing. Tucked away out of the crowds of downtown La Fortuna but also close enough to get to in 15-20 minutes. The ground are impeccable. Beautiful lush gardens, lots of well lit paths, great signage showing you around the property. Beautiful paintings and woodwork everywhere. We were greeted by three amigos! The three men who met us at reception were truly amazing. They spoke perfect English and offered so much information about the property. They promptly got us checked in, assisted with our luggage and brought us on a tour in a golf cart. We then were shown our room, which was immaculately cleaned. We are in the glass bungalow which is amazing. The bed is so comfortable and the AC works awesome. The shower has great temperature and water pressure. The porch has comfortable hammocks and a table where we can enjoy coffee or a snack and play cards. The pool is perfect temperature. One side for hot, one side for cold. There are restrooms by the pool and loungers everywhere. It is never too crowded. THE FOOD IS AMAZING! And very well priced. They even have a pond on site with fresh fish they stock. You truly cannot get anything more fresh than this. The restaurant staff is attentive and kind. There is an amazing sculpture of a sloth that would be perfect for photos outside the restaurant. The menu is large and the prices are great. There is a nature trail here and even coffee plants. The butterflies and hummingbirds are everywhere! We can hear and see the howler monkeys. a toucan greeted us by the pool earlier. There is tons of space to park your vehicle. It is very secure here. They have gates to enter the property and someone is always there to greet you. The housekeeping staff is wonderful and always provides animal towel art on the bed. The entire staff is truly amazing here. They are so talented and so good at what they do. We are having the best time here and I hope you all consider this place while visiting Costa Rica. …
A great hotel concept with extensive grounds and forest trails accessible from the hotel. The hotel has 27 rooms (bungalow style), the grounds are large and the rooms spread out. The pool area is a nice size with enough loungers. Lots of wildlife in the grounds and an organic vegetable and fruit garden that supplies the restaurant. Asca vegetarian, have to say the hotel food was truly excellent. Genuinely nice stay in a decent hotel. Would recommend for visiting the Arenal Volcanoes area. Besides the excitement food, check in was very good and hassle free. Arrived tired and a super smooth check in was appreciated.
This is a nice place. We stayed in a glass bungalow, which was nice, although could do with a bit of updating, there was no where to put any clothes, the bedding was a bit hard, the bed did not fit the wall ( it wasn’t a big bed) so made it difficult to open the bathroom door. It was a steep walk up to the restaurant. There were no drinks available by the pool area, and the beds there needed cushions. We had 2 meals in the restaurant in the evening, The wine choices were very limited, And the 2 meals cost more than our 5night stay at the hotel!!!!! You need a car here as you are 30mins drive from La Fortuna and the taxis were hard to get to come to us, although the hotel did take us in a couple of times.
We really enjoyed our stay here. Nice location in a rural area near all the Eco tourism stuff. All the staff were quite friendly and helpful including at the restaurant. I noticed the boss was there making sure everything was in order. This place has a familiar warm environment down to the guy who took us on a night hike to see flora and fauna. They have a sprawling grounds that are well-kept, including a soccer pitch and nature trails. Highly recommend this place.
